I'm of the opinion these coaches get caught up in their own hype and bullshit and can't adjust to modern game changes.
Like our Dline coach was playing hutch out of position, moving more interior on the line, talmbout this is what he did when he coached Strahan during his record breaking season?!?

The 49ers loss saved their season. Up until that game, they were just lining guys up in basic formations, and just trying to "out talent" teams and short pass teams to death.
They started motioning guys, and moving CeeDee around. Very few teams can cover them if they go 4 or 5 wide, because Cooks and Turpin have elite speed, they have a good O Line, and they have a top 10 #1 receiver, especially if Dak gets out of the pocket or runs sometimes. If they upgrade Gallup with Martavis' speed and height later, they will be tough.
McCarthy just changed the playbook and schemes, used fucking common sense.
McCarthy came into the season thinking the defense was good enough to win games by itself and was running a nerfed offense.
After the 49ers game he realized they were going to have to score points.
That's a bad look and telling sign for why he hasn't been hired as a HC yet
