Eagles 17, Broncos 21: Jalen Hurts Rewatch Report Card Another week, another tale of two halves for Jalen Hurts and the offenseWatching it live I thought Hurts and the passing offense were the best they had been so far this season. Rewatching it I didn’t feel as strongly about that but they were way better in the first half than they were the second. Hurts definitely had his moments vs. Denver. He threw some beautiful deep passes, including a 3rd/17 pass to Devonta Smith for 52 yards. He should have had two more — a long completion to Dotson and a long completion to Smith were both taken off the board. Then of course there is the long missed TD to AJ Brown (where he slowed up) which will be discussed all week. The second half is where things fell apart. The Eagles passing offense is struggling for multiple reasons — OLine, sloppy play, etc. On Sunday I thought it struggled in the second half because of Hurts. He is just too hesitant on where to go with the ball when he faces a zone defense and it hurts the offense. The numbers back it up — he is way better against man coverage than he is against zone. Hurts hesitation throws the timing off. He can sometimes be a tick too slow in getting rid of the ball and it causes it to fall incomplete on what should have been a completion. Or he just doesn’t throw it which puts the Eagles into a tougher spot on the next down. Hurts also wasn’t the impact player he normally is on the ground. He finished the game with 3 yards rushing, the lowest total of his career as a starter. Hurts didn’t win the game despite the defense only giving up 21 points — and only 3 points through three quarters. There are weeks where Hurts isn’t amazing but he does enough to win the game and his grade is propped up as a result. This week Hurts wasn’t amazing and they lost. His grade has to be docked because of that.
