would be a hellva pick up

C.J. Miles considering signing with Lakers.

Name:C.J. Miles

Former team: Utah Jazz

Type of free agent: Unrestricted

Positives: Miles embodies most of the ideal characteristics the Lakers sorely need as a backup shooting guard. He's young (24). He scores at a consistent rate off the bench (averaging nine points in four of the last five seasons with Utah). He's also a strong finisher at the rim (66% from that area), thanks to his strong handle and quickness.

The Lakers need a backup with those qualities, and who can do so over long stretches of time. That's because Kobe Bryant will need to scale back from the 38 minutes per game he averaged last season, something that wasn't possible partly because the Lakers lacked a consistent backup shooting guard. Lakers Coach Mike Brown shouldn't have any hesitation using Miles in such a role.

Two seasons ago with the Jazz, Miles averaged 12.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 25.2 minutes. Miles' stats show that he's most effective when he's getting about 20 minutes per game. Meanwhile, rookie Andrew Goudelock averaged only about 10 minutes. Miles could help give Bryant some needed rest and add scoring off the bench.

Negatives: Miles is far from a complete player. He's not a capable defender. He has averaged only 32.9% from three-point range. He also averaged in the high-20 percentile in shots, both from within 10 to 15 feet and shots from within 16 to 23 feet. Only a third of his shots come near the rim, suggesting he needs to work on his shot selection.

These glaring weaknesses may undermine his overall scoring ability. His defensive weaknesses would still leave the Lakers with holes on that end. Miles' inconsistent outside shooting stroke would probably not be able to punish teams that double-team Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. Because the Lakers feature a post-oriented lineup, Miles' chances at driving to the rim may be limited. Because of these issues, it's unrealistic to expect Miles to have the same type of production he had in Utah, especially considering the Lakers have such a talented starting lineup. It would remain to be seen if Miles could still provide enough scoring punch in a much more limited role.

Verdict: Because of the Lakers' limited finances, it would be smarter for them to pursue players with limited skills that can still provide a specific need. A good outside shooter or a smart defender would be two great assets that could come on the cheap if such players lack other qualities.

Miles doesn't fill that description, though. Because he's young and capable of scoring, the Lakers should still pursue him. But it would likely require the Lakers to use their $3-million mini mid-level exception, something they had hoped to avoid doing.

FOH..

Horace Grant jumped with his hands straight up and then got pump faked out of the play so he didn't commit a foul. And Jordan didn't chop the shit out of Smith. Smith damn sure didn't react like he got fouled. Smith simply failed to convert.....

LeBron James: Earned Not Given?
by Lefty

Earned Not Given?

So this seems to be the new catchphrase for LeBron James now that he has finally succeeded in winning his first NBA Championship. While Lefty understands marketing and the need to sell t-shirts, did LeBron really earn his first championship?

There is already so much talk of LeBron being one of the greatest players of all time and comparing him to Michael Jordan. Many people point out that Jordan didn’t win his first ring until the 1990-91 NBA season. That is a weak argument.

Michael Jordan faced some of the toughest competition in the history of the game, matching up against the likes of the Celtics,76ers, and Pistons. All of these teams were spectacular teams of the 1980′s. Michael Jordan didn’t leave the Chicago Bulls to play with Magic and the Lakers, Bird and the Celtics, or Isiah and the Pistons. Michael wanted to defeat his peers – not join them.

Michael Jordan failed season after season constantly taking a beating from his arch nemesis – The Detroit Pistons. Jordan never gave up and inched one step closer each season. Eventually Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls reached the top of the NBA.

So what if it took MJ until the 1990-91 season? This should mean that LeBron should be compared to Michael Jordan? Why, because LeBron was 27 and MJ was 28? Lefty hears that argument from young kids who don’t know what they are talking about. It’s hogwash. What logic would apply there anyway? Magic Johnson won in his first NBA season.

LeBron didn’t gut it out with Cleveland. Instead, he took his talents to South Beach. How sweet would it have finally been to earn a ring with the Cleveland Cavaliers? His first, their first.

The true greats of the game have multiple rings. Isiah has two. Larry has three. Magic has five and Jordan has six. Those guys earned their rings playing against one another, not by joining forces and crushing the league. The fact that the Miami Heat didn’t win in their first season together is inexcusable and pathetic. LeBron is still far behind Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and even his teammate D. Wade. LeBron James has a long way to go. It remains to be seen if he will ever earn the nickname “King”

Salty ass nigga right here... :smh:
People need to STOP COMPARING ERAS AND RESPECT THE ACCOMPLISHMENT... PERIOD... :smh:
Plus, everybody who road to the 'ring' is different... Magic's was different than Jordan's... which was different than Isiah's... which was different than Bird's...
Muthaufckas need to GET OVER IT... He got his ring and if he never wins another one... HE'LL STILL BE AN ALL TIME GREAT... DEAL WITH IT... :smh:

Yea they always bring that bullshit argument into the conversation like he was playing with in the prime all stars or hof, but shaq dipped from orl.

^^^^ This the one thing that had me tripping when Magic Johnson was
lobbing for the Dwight to come and join The Lakers. Kinda didn't understand
that shit.

Bash one dude for teaming with CERTAIN players but two years later encourage another player
to join another group of players.

Because... like most people... Magic is FULL OF SHIT...
If Lebron was to join the Lakers... Do you think Magic would have dissed Lebron for his choice?... :hmm: Most of the dudes who criticize Lebron... WISH THEY WERE HIS POSITION TO DO THE SAME THING...

word on the street

he might get shipped to europe

or

he might get shipped to cleveland with uncle rip

ok so I started reading but being faded combined with colin took over but I;m sure I read enough cuz I stopped at the part that stated damn near every 1st round pick signs to the 120% unless you get drafted by the Spurs

bottom line is if you didn't want to pay the 1st round money for that roster spot draft out like the Heat did or the Lakers and Mavs do all the time

its needs to be a rule u can only play where u came from.

we would never lose.

:smh:

If they did institute this rule as a Bulls fan I would hate it because we would lose. New York would always have a squad. Atlanta would be smoking muthafucka and Dallas would be tough and that doesn't include a team from L.A., B-More or Seattle.
