Hornets to add Ryan Anderson

The New Orleans Hornets' frontcourt is taking shape.

Sources with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com on Sunday that the Hornets and Orlando Magic reached agreement on a sign-and-trade deal that will send Magic forward Ryan Anderson to New Orleans to play alongside prized rookie Anthony Davis.

The Magic will receive young Hornets center Gustavo Ayon in the deal.

The Hornets were in talks to sign Anderson, a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet, but sources say that trade talks with the Magic have progressed quickly once Orlando officials decided they would not want to match an offer to Anderson.

NBA.com is reporting that Anderson will sign a four-year deal worth between $34-36 million.

The 6-foot-10 Anderson is entering his fifth NBA season out of California. He started 61 games for Orlando last season, averaging 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.

Ayon, a 6-10 Mexico native, spent his rookie NBA campaign in New Orleans last season after playing professionally in Spain's top pro league. The 27-year-old Ayon started 24 games for the Hornets, averaging 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per game.

As with all league business, Sunday's trade can't be consummated until Wednesday, which is the first day new NBA contracts can be signed for the 2012-13 season.

The trade for Anderson is not expected to preclude the Hornets from matching the four-year offer sheet worth nearly $60 million that the Phoenix Suns have agreed to give Hornets restricted free agent Eric Gordon.

The drafting of Davis and forthcoming arrival of Anderson all but guarantees that Hornets big men Chris Kaman and Carl Landry will be moving on to new teams as free agency continues to unfold.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Gordon is insane if he don't want the hornets to match. That team's future is sick

what was it 4 years and 15 mil.

happy to have him back in the fold especially since the Knicks are so strapped couldnt spend much outisde of the roster. But dude was a complete no factor in the playoffs. Was it cause of MIA's defense or simply him coming down to earth. Proably a little of both.

  • So who, besides Ray Allen, were the handful of players the Heat had atop their free-agent wish list? Agent Bill Duffy tells us Pat Riley called Steve Nash just after the midnight start of free agency July 1. “He expressed interest and told him he admired him,” said Duffy, who told Riley the Heat’s $3.1 million mini mid-level exception would not be enough.
  • The Heat knew it would need to do a sign-and-trade with Phoenix but determined it didn’t have the pieces. But Duffy said Nash would have been interested in Miami (as well as the Lakers and Knicks) if the Heat could have done a sign-and-trade.
  • NBA officials say Miami also planned to make a strong (though long-shot) pitch to Kevin Garnett had he not re-signed with Boston (for three years, $34 million) and to Lamar Odom had the Clippers not traded for him June 30. But Allen was always Miami's first choice, and the Heat's thrilled to get him.
  • Some of the Heat/Allen reaction: Michael Vick tweeted of the Heat: "Loaded. Final Piece. Notfair. LOL."... Suns forward Jared Dudley: "The rich get richer."
  • Celtics coach Doc Rivers told The Boston Globe Saturday night that he is "disappointed" about Allen leaving the Celtics. "He should have stayed," Rivers said. "We recruited him just as hard [as Miami]. I respect him for all he did for us, but I thought he should have stayed with us."
  • Rivers said he spoke to Allen after he made his decision and suggested that Allen might have been irritated by Boston making Garnett its off-season priority.
  • "I think emotionally, he probably got bent sideways a little bit by us courting Kevin for some reason," Rivers said. ".... Garnett was our focal point and should have been. If that got anyone ruffled, then that's probably too bad." Asked if he agrees with Allen's reasons for leaving, Rivers said, "No. But that doesn't matter."
  • Please see our last post for news of Marcus Camby postponing his visit with the Heat, and the sign-and-trades discussions between the Heat and Rockets.
  • Though Larry Bird told ESPN he’s bothered by players taking less money to join the Heat for one year, he said of LeBron James’ playoffs: “Has anyone ever had a better run? It would seem like you’d have a bad game once in a while. He never had a bad game. Maybe he can get close to
    [Michael] Jordan.”

to each his own.
thats why players covet free agency cause they can decide where they play.

but i aint cry him river if he is forced to play in N.O. and make about 60 mil

the Heat stated that he was one of their top priorities defensively.

When he came on the floor they made it a point to shout Novak every time he touched the ball .

This is a good retention for the knicks. He is a monster wid the three ball

He somehow believe that Phoenix is a better spot for him than N.O ????

If he wants out all he has to do is pull a Dwight Howard...bitch and moan about it all season

The future is looking good but the Ryan Anderson deal was :smh:. That was not a good move if they let Landry who is a better player leave because of him.

I take it you didn't see many Magic games this past season, Anderson can drain that outside shot very well

Landry doesnt stretch the floor like Anderson does.

:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

Looking like the Pacers are going to match Hibbert's offer sheet from Portland. They probably drove his price up out of spite (Pritchard). I don't totally agree with it but I'll digress. Everyone is piling on the majors and the pickings are slim. And taking care of our own will keep the Pacers competitive, at least.

Hopefully, they can snatch one of these remaining wings for additional scoring. Move Paul George to bench until his game matures.

Knicks Summer League roster notables: Douglas, Jordan, Josh Harrellson, Chris Smith (JR's brother), Jeremiah Rivers (Doc's son, Austin's older brother), Walker Russell Jr. (son of Knicks scout, played for Pistons last season), Mychal Thompson (son of former Laker, et al), Mustapha Farrakhan (grandson of Louis Farrakhan and Virginia standout who played in D-League last season).

I saw the list and thought this shit was worth a laugh. The knicks should take doc's older son just to fuck with him  or maybe grab a Farrakhan and have him guard Cassipi.

:roflmao:

Lotta second generation players on the squad this summer.

Well if that happens then the Blazers will be gunning for McGee which mean's Pam's son will be overpaid and the Nuggets will most likely match and be overpaying for potential for a potential "bonehead". McGee better fly right.:hmm:

Ha ha. I guess that's the way its going to be playing out now. And Portland's owner has deep pockets, as you know.

Due to these glaciers formulating throughout the league, smaller market teams that want to remain competitive are going to be forced into reaches and gambles. Teams are frantic right now, but I believe it will eventually stabilize.

In what way?

Anderson is a better shooter, scorer, and rebounder...both are mediocre defenders. Everything else favors Anderson.

Thought the huge contracts were part of the problems, and owners wasn't making money?

camby in NY

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/222191/Camby_Agrees_To_$132M_Sign_And_Trade_With_Knicks

Marcus Camby and the Knicks have reached agreement on a contract that will pay him $13.2 million over the next three seasons.

Camby was traded by the Knicks to Denver in 2002.

The Rockets agreed to a sign-and-trade for Camby, acquiring Toney Douglas, Josh Harrelson, Jerome Jordan and second round picks in 2014 and 2015. New York will pay the salary of Douglas for the 12-13 season.

I love this knicks offseason... sad to lose Jorts but Camby's back!... so far the team has addressed major weaknesses, we lost so many games when Tyson was out... Camby will also give STAT a rest... there will be times where Tyson and Camby will be out there... another good reason is Tyson owned Dwight last season now we add a second excellent defender... add kidd and kept SHUMP...Kidd and Camby could give us an extra 10-15 wins this season..everyone's saying Melo is more motivated than ever before and Stat is back to beast mode...

If we can send Gadz to Dallas for Kidd we can sign Lewis too... Win Now...Let the nets steal the Headlines, the knicks are building a TEAM.

thats right they still have that gadz contract... I know they didn't keep it unless like you said its going to be part of something else. its a little less than the BAE and a pure expiring as well.

The team is looking solid now..we got bodies to defend Howard whenever he gets to BK nd we got bodies for the heats attackers now why just gotta match Lin's offer sheet sign J.R Smith and hit the road running

Yo creed why haven't the Knicks match Lins offer sheet yet??? What they waiting on

Kidd and Camby being Knicks is a big boon for their locker room. Both are great professionals and NY can move up the pecking order. No longer the 7/8 seed no more.

yup his contract is Non-Guaranteed...it can be S & T plus 2mil...Might be worth it to Dallas... that'd leave the knicks with 3 mil to sign one more FA, Read we're one of the Favs to sign Lewis... granted he ain't done shit in years but if he can regain his offense and shot... put him, Novak, Kidd and JR plus Stat or Tyson or Camby and u have 4 3pt shooters out there..and since we now have extra roster spots I hope we go after Michael Redd toou can never have too many shooters...shit I hope Brand clears waivers and we somehow get him too...

Knicks r old as fuck now but it's productive tough old, experience old...they won't win any dashes down the court but thats ok...the addition of Kidd and Camby really adds to the second unit especially with JJ likely returning...add that greek scorer dude they're bringing over and this could be dynamic...

Riley and the Heat should contact Ryan Hollins, could be a young explosive shoot blocker Marcus Camby type.

yup... the experience in tight situations will be valuable to everyone...

I was listening to the Steven A show and an Orl writer said Dwight is gonna have issues in BK, bk he wants the ball a majority of the time and throws tantrums when he doesn't get it... with Joe Johnson... Dwights gonna throw a lot of tantrums lol...

Nets have their big names but no vets to provide guidance Dwight's the only one with Finals experience and his a big bitch...

Damn all of them, fuck I love camby but damn Gina....If this was Miami let's see who this would've been....Norris Cole, Thomas Pittman, Joel Anthony and 1st round pick

knicks may have dwight blocked the Rockets...

Look at Houston's Roster now... they got picks and talent... and are prepping a mega offer to Orl for Dwight...

That'd be sweet justice to deny the Nets Dwight like they tried to deny us Melo and cost us Gallo and Wilson...

Go Rockets!

Yeah...not worth it.

Gonna be interesting about Lewis...I don't think the Hawks are a legit choice. It's going to be between the Heat and the Knicks. Fortunately for the Heat's chances, money isn't as big of a deal for him because he is making $13+ million from his buyout in addition to whatever is offered.

Knicks also reached a deal with Steve Novak today.....

we just gotta get Lin hopefully we can get JR and it is on son.....

You're fuckin delusional, and commenting on the Nets chemistry issues, when you have Stat, JR Smith, Lin and Melo :hmm:

Who is the leader on the Snickers? Camby and Kidd are vets, but leaders :hmm:

He said an extra 10-15 games

Whoa, the Snickers might make it to the second round this year
