Brandon Bass Agrees To Three-Year Deal With Celtics

Brandon Bass has agreed to a three-year deal to remain with the Celtics.
Bass was acquired last offseason from the Magic.

As it turns out, Brandon Bass was the first of the Celtics' three remaining high-priority free agents to come to terms, signing a three-year deal, a league source confirmed. Ray Allen is visiting Miami with the Celtics still in the running and they are also working on a new deal for Jeff Green. Contracts can't be officially signed until July 11. The Boston Herald reported news of the agreement first.

Bass opted out of the final year of his contract that was worth $4.25 million, but after the Celtics were eliminated in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against Miami, Bass noted how much he enjoyed playing in Boston and that he was hoping to stay. Bass averaged a career-high 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds last season with the Celtics and started 39 games during the regular season and all 20 playoff games.

Aaron Brooks talking to the Rockets

After trading Kyle Lowry, the Houston Rockets are searching for a starting point guard. While they have offered restricted free agent Jeremy Lin a four-year, $30 million offer sheet, Houston is also considering several other options. The Rockets will meet with restricted free agent Aaron Brooks this weekend, according to sources close to the situation. After signing Goran Dragic and drafting Kendall Marshall, it’s unlikely the Phoenix Suns will match a large offer sheet for Brooks.

Steve Nash's arrival could make Dwight Howard also want to join Kobe Bryant, Lakers

Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash connected on the phone Monday night, discussing the parameters of a partnership that would’ve once seemed so improbable. Nash had the vision of joining the Los Angeles Lakers, and Bryant told him he wanted him there. This had come together so fast, so out of nowhere, Bryant is still calculating the possibilities of pairing two of a generation’s best talents and basketball minds.

This is the kind of cordial recruiting call that Bryant and Dwight Howard haven’t had, a silence existing for most of a year now. Bryant will not recruit Howard to reaffirm the Lakers as part of Howard's list of teams that he’s willing to accept a trade and sign a long-term extension. For several reasons – including Bryant's respect for teammate Andrew Bynum – the odds of Bryant picking up the phone and calling are remote. Bryant would welcome Howard as a teammate, sources say, but he’s shown no inclination to be part of a process of trying to convince him to come.

When they spoke several months ago about the possibility of Howard coming to the Lakers in a trade, Bryant and Howard pictured the center’s role through far different prisms. Howard wanted an offense to play through him far more often than not, and Bryant imagined the NBA’s best defender protecting the rim, rebounding and scoring as an offensive option beyond Bryant and Pau Gasol. The call ended uneasily, and sources say they haven’t had a meaningful conversation since then.

Howard has always wanted to play with a great point guard, and, perhaps, with the ball in Nash’s hands now, he’ll see the Lakers in a different way. Before Nash, Howard had been longing for life with Deron Williams and the Brooklyn Nets. Now, the Lakers have a generational point guard, and that could change everything.

The Orlando Magic want Bynum, and need to find a way through a deal with the Lakers – or perhaps the assistance of a third team – to land him. The Lakers want to win championships now, and here’s a question they’re asking themselves: With Howard still rehabilitating back surgery, do they risk a season where he's still physically recovering?

For the Lakers to make a deal for Howard, Orlando will push them to take on a long-term contract it wants to unload: Hedo Turkoglu or Jason Richardson. For all the local TV revenue that’s coming to the Buss family, they still get queasy over paying so much in luxury taxes. Still, Howard, 26, can be the Lakers' marketable Hollywood star once Bryant is gone. Bynum will never be that presence, even if he’s an excellent center.

In a lot of ways, the Lakers and Magic still need each other. The Magic can live with the Lakers sending two future first-round picks to the Suns for Nash, because acquiring Bynum would be such an upgrade over every other possible player available to them.

Nevertheless, the Lakers will consider how the arrival of Nash – and possibly free agent Grant Hill – could impact Bynum in the locker room. After Derek Fisher was traded in March, there was a sense within the Lakers that there was no older, calming influence to reign in Bynum when his moods, his disposition, went awry. Bryant has been an incredible force for Bynum's development, pushing him long and hard, but nurturer isn’t necessarily one of his gifts. There’s a sense that Nash could impact Bynum as a playmaker and a yang to Bryant’s yin.

Nash is 38, and while no NBA point guard has ever played this well, this deep, into his career, this is still a short-term, win-now move. Nash can be a conduit to bring these Lakers further together, make them a true contender again. The Lakers had wanted to know that Howard wanted them, that he wanted to take his turn in their long line of great centers, and that hasn’t happened for months. Howard wondered: Does Bryant want me? Well yes, Kobe would welcome Howard, but he isn’t going to risk alienating and disrespecting Bynum to court him. Make no mistake, Bryant and Howard have kept an uneasy distance, but so many league executives wonder why the Lakers would ever hesitate to make a move for Howard.

Once the Lakers have Howard's Bird Rights – once no one on the market can pay him more in the summer of 2013 – why would he ever leave? No matter what he threatens, everyone knows Howard will get maximum money on his Adidas contract extension in Los Angeles, a maximum $100 million playing contract and maximum adoration and adulation in Hollywood.

"I think with Nash in the house now, they wouldn’t need an assurance up front," one league executive tied closely to the Howard trade talks told Yahoo! Sports. "They know that Dwight can be impressionable and craves Hollywood. I think they would take that chance."

The Brooklyn Nets are still relentlessly working on a deal to secure Howard, and perhaps Howard wants to wait until they’ve exhausted every scenario with the Magic. Nevertheless, Orlando’s target for a Howard deal is still Bynum, still the Lakers. Sooner or later, Howard will understand that Kobe Bryant will never beg him to be a Laker, but the inevitable still awaits: If he wants championships and sneaker money and celebrity, there’s still just one place for him to go. Now, Steve Nash is waiting with the ball and a buffer. Yes, everyone’s waiting on Dwight Howard now.

seem like Kobe aint reaching out to Dwight....which is smart when you got Andrew and Paul

Do they think they're getting a better PG than Lowry

So they're losing both of their PG's, one because Kevin McHale can't get along with him...and they still have Kevin Martin :smh:

If I'm Howard there's no way I'm going to the lakers. He has a 3 year gap maybe with those dudes to win a chip in an ever improving Western Conference. I go to the Nets and call it a day

Thats why i would give Lin what he wants...

Brooks is a serviceable pg and shined often

that have to do something....key spot are weak at the moment
Lin and Asik would full out the roster

  • PG: Shaun Livingston, Earl Boykins.
  • SG: Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb
  • SF: Chandler Parsons, Royce White, Marcus Morris, Gary Forbes
  • PF: Luis Scola, Patrick Patterson, Terrence Jones, Donatas Montiejunas, Jon Leuer, Jon Brockman

Goran Dragic and Omer Asik are not name guys at all and they both got paid. So did Hibbert.

think he meant from this point going forward C_

Alright. And while that is probably true it's not a conscious decision on the part of the owners. It's just that they've spent all their money overpaying all these guys in less than a week of free agency.

I think Bass is overated though...come on with the signing of the Jet and jeff Green i think he needs to do less scoring, which is what he does best...he is average on the boards...average defender, Bass is a beast at one thing hitting them elbow jumpers dude can't even create his own shot ....but i am glad he signed...Danny Angie doing his thing this summer..

If I were the Hornets I would match the deal then deal him to the Suns for a couple of those picks they just got from the Lakers

I would, because it made no sense for them to draft Austin Rivers, but those Lakers draft picks will be in the 20's, that's not shit.

The Knicks are matching anything Houston offers, because of the marketing wrapped up in Lin.

I really don't understand Houston

They draft Lamb, who's similar to Martin
They draft Terrance Jones who's similar to Patterson

Three draft picks, and not one was a PG

If you're going to trade Kyle, keep your other PG :smh:
They've been shopping Scola and Martin for over a year.

At PG, who can they get, Sessions or Felton? They're actually considering bringing Aaron Brooks back as a starter?

Houston and Dallas have to have had the worst off seasons.

Houston is cold with the contract they offered Lin. 10 Million in the 3rd year. So NY will have 71 Million earmarked for Melo,Tyson,Amare, and Lin. That team in 2014 is gonna be thiiiiiin on the bench.

Get the feeling Rashard Lewis will be someone's consolation prize for missing out on Ray Allen. Reportedly set to visit Miami next week

Was saying this the other day.

They're paying $70 mil, to MAYBE go to the second round. You're paying that much, and you're not any closer to a title.

seem like the Heat are trying to bring the old Seattle supersonics back

shard%20%26%20ray.jpg

David Aldridge of NBA.com is reporting that Rashard Lewis is visiting the Heat on Saturday, and also has plans to speak with the Hawks and Knicks.

Calls to Aldridge’s agent, Tony Dutt, were not immediately returned, but the report makes sense for a variety of reasons. Lewis has been the Heat’s No. 2 target as a shooter since the Hornets bought him out of his contract without him playing a game for them, adding to his obscene career earnings of $138 million through the end of last season. If Miami signs Ray Allen to the mini-midlevel, it could try to convince Lewis to take the minimum ($1.35 million for someone of his experience) and join his old Seattle teammate (2003-2007) for a shot at a ring.

And if Allen balks, Lewis could be given the mini-midlevel, which may be more than other suitors are willing to spend.

Lewis would be the ideal stretch four in the Heat’s offense, with a career three-point percentage of 38.8, though that number has been trending down since his 2009-10 season with Orlando. Just don’t expect him to do much else. He’ll turn 33 before the season, and he’s never been an elite rebounder or defender.

MIAMI -- A person familiar with the situation says free agent guard Ray Allen visited the NBA champion Miami Heat at their home arena Thursday.

Allen is at the top of Miami's free agent list. Allen plans to stay in Miami until Friday, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no details of the meeting were publicly revealed.

The Heat can only offer Allen the mini mid-level exception worth about $3 million for this season. Allen has spent the last five seasons with the Boston Celtics, who have offered the NBA's 3-point field goal leader a $12 million, two-year deal.

Miami has ousted Boston from the NBA playoffs in each of the last two seasons. Allen averaged 14.2 points for Boston this past season.

Brandon Roy has come to a verbal agreement
with Minnesota according to a person in Roy's family

Call it a comeback.

Former Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy has reached a verbal agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a 2-year contract, according to The Oregonian and Seattle radio station KJR. NBA.com reports the deal is worth $10.4 million.

"I'm excited to be back," Roy said, according to KJR. "I'm a T-Wolf!"

Roy, 27, was originally drafted by the Timberwolves but was traded to the Blazers on the night of the 2006 NBA Draft.

He was waived by the Blazers using the amnesty clause in December 2011 after dealing with problems in both of his knees for multiple seasons and did not play during the 2011-12 season. A 3-time All-Star, Roy unofficially retired and cleared the amnesty bidding process, becoming an unrestricted free agent. He began to make noise about a possible comeback in February and immediately drew interest from multiple teams when the July free agency moratorium opened last week.

Roy reportedly had five suitors in addition to the Timberwolves: the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers.

Contract agreements cannot go official until July 11, when the NBA's 10-day moratorium comes to an end.

Roy holds career averages of 19.0 points, 4.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds over five seasons with the Blazers. He was a lottery pick in 2006, the 2007 Rookie of the Year, second-team All-NBA in 2009 and third-team All-NBA in 2010.

Interesting. Going to the team that drafted then traded him to Portland. This could be a playoff team if Rubio comes back stronger than ever, they lock up that Center and Batum really is signing with them.

Damn it, the Bulls said they were going after Roy. Who the fuck they plan on signing now?

If we come out the FA empty-handed, I'm going berserk.

Houston better run them damn rookies if they taking Asik from us.

What everyone has to realize is that today is only July 5th. Signing period doesn't start until July 11th. I can see most of these deals sticking, but wouldn't be surprised if a player or two is swayed.
