~--~Official 2012 NBA Draft/Offseason Thread~--~

I'll pull up the link when I get home, but I saw a link somewhere that said the heat were looking into giving Ray the mini, and doing a sign and trade for Camby.

It's probably an extreme longshot, but they were in contact with Camby from day one

that would be nice, then get Lewis also(if Miller or Jones retires)

i'll see if i can find it

bulls need to jump on this

now!!!!!!!!!

cat gives you 20 off the bench often, could start in chicago

Don't believe the hype... Lou is cool and all, but he is more erratic than anything else, a ball hog and can fuck up a good offensive flow. There were many games we got out to a great start, and then he came in with the second unit and started doing dumb shit... Plus he is a small ass liability on the other end... :smh:

Source says chance Miami could sign Ray Allen with $3 million exception and then seek to get Marcus Camby in sign-and-trade with Houston...

looking to see for who...Joel and that pick for the 76ers

If the Heat grab Ray and Marcus... Next season, there will more than likely be #2 of 7 for Lebron and crew...

Then you let Mike Miller take his time to heal and give it another run...the key is what james Jones going to do?

It's funny how off season acquisitions can change the landscape of a team... Miami is slowing becoming one of the most complete teams in the L, and with LBJ just entering his prime, the way he played this season, Dude will always be the difference if he continues with this improvement curve...

JJ rarely got burn. I dont understand why but............

Heat claimed to want floor spacing but spo sat him all the damn time

I thought them seeking out Ray Allen was contingent on Mike Miller retiring

I'm just talking cause i haven't seen any news on him.

On Mike Miller: Riley said that the Heat veteran would let his back “calm down” for a couple of weeks before Miller and his doctors decide whether to have surgery. As for the other question, “We’re not looking at amnestying anybody.” Not this offseason, anyway. That shouldn’t be a great surprise. The real tax advantages come after next offseason. Riley has until July 19th to change his mind. “If Mike Miller, and I don’t want him to go through the same thing next year, could guarantee me a 7th game in the Finals, I would let him sit out all year.” Riley compared to Miller to Dan Majerle, who once went through an entire season as a starter without practicing once due to a back problem

Heat going strong after free-agent C Camby

MIAMI — Has center Marcus Camby emerged as the free agent the Heat are going after the hardest?

Sources close to the situation said Friday the free agent will visit Miami on Saturday. One source said the Heat had reached out to Camby’s camp at 12:01 a.m. EDT last Sunday, the very first time teams could contact free agents.
It initially appeared Camby’s priority was to re-sign with Houston. But sources said Camby has changed his tune this week due to a belief the Rockets are rebuilding, and he would be very receptive to signing with Miami.

The Heat on Thursday entertained free-agent guard Ray Allen. On Sunday, they will play host to free-agent forward Rashard Lewis.

Using Miami’s $3.09 million exception, the Heat are willing to give Allen a three-year, $9.53 million contract. However, Allen could end up returning to Boston, which has offered him a two-year, $12 million deal. And one source wondered if, due to how thin Miami is at center and the difficulty it is to acquire big men without big bucks, Camby could emerge as a more preferred Heat free agent than Allen.

Is there a possibility the Heat could get both Allen and Camby? A source reiterated there’s no chance Camby would sign for the veteran’s minimum of $1.35 million but it’s possible a sign-and-trade deal could be arranged with Houston (it’s unclear if Lewis would accept the veteran’s minimum).

Camby, 38, split last season with Portland and Houston, averaging 4.9 points and 9.9 rebounds. In 19 late-season games with the Rockets, Camby averaged 7.1 and 9.3 rebounds.

Camby wants a multi-year deal and hopes to play about three more seasons. Due to his rebounding and shot-blocking ability and not caring about how many points he scores, he would fit in well with the Heat.

Sources had said early in the week Camby’s preference was to re-sign with Houston. But that has changed.

“He sees the moves they are making and it looks like they’re rebuilding,’’ one source said. “He wants to win a championship.’’

The Rockets last week traded center Samuel Dalembert to Milwaukee. This week, they’ve agreed to trade point guard Kyle Lowry to Toronto, and free-agent point guard Gorin Dragic has agreed to bolt Houston for Phoenix.

Houston this week agreed to sign Chicago restricted free-agent center Omer Asik and New York restricted free-agent point guard Jeremy Lin to offer sheets. But both could be matched.

Sources said Camby also plans to visit New York, and that Dallas and San Antonio remain in the mix as possibilities. For now, though, he will take a long look at Miami.

Miami won the championship with Chris Bosh having been moved from power forward to start in the Finals at center against Oklahoma City. But it remains to be seen if that could work over the long haul. Miami’s only true centers under contract for next season are Joel Anthony and Dexter Pittman.

The Heat entered free agency before last season hoping to get a big man but found the $3 million taxpayer exception didn’t go very far. They’ll now see if it can be used to land Camby or whether the Rockets might cooperate for a sign-and-trade.

The Heat don’t have a lot to offer for a possible sign-and-trade. There is young point guard Norris Cole and forward Udonis Haslem, but the Heat are very loyal to the Miami native. And there is the future first-round pick the Heat got last week from Philadelphia, which could be packaged in some manner.

I'm not big on Camby... because end of the day, he won't be there in the closing minutes of the game. Ray Allen is mostly likely going to be on the floor... a lineup of Wade, Allen, Battier, Bron and Bosh would be ideal for miami.

Fuck the bullshit. Riley need to amnesty Miller. that $6-7M he getting can be really useful right now.

will use it next year...really dont help that much this year

save it let mike sit all year, then next year use it, and let him retire and gain the relief

I don't think Marcus Camby is much, but ok. I think he will be taking Howard's roll.

I don't understand the Clippers getting Crawford. IMO keeping Nick Young made more sense. Bledsoe is buried on the bench, behind Paul, Chauncy and Crawford can run point.

It will be interesting to see where Elton Brand goes. He hasn't been shit since his achilles injury.

Philly bout to Amnesty Brand and sign Young smh.. ninja bout to get 18 Mill to sit out.. talk about a win

Notes from an interview Friday with Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin.
Corbin said Utah 2012 second-round draft pick Kevin Murphy is a "scorer." During the initial three days of Summer League camp this week near Orlando, Fla., Murphy immediately impressed with his ability to quickly get off shots and his understanding of how to play in a pro-style offense. The former Tennessee Tech guard is also longer and taller than Corbin thought he'd be.
Second-year Jazz players Alec Burks and Enes Kanter are in excellent shape, following recent appearances at P3, a high-performance training facility in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Corbin said Utah plans to keep all 16 players in camp on its Summer League roster. The Jazz will primarily play athletes on their official roster, though, during next week's games.
Corbin will watch contests from the bench and stands but won't coach, relying on a rotating crew of assistants to run the team.
Corbin wouldn't comment about specific Jazz personnel changes because of the ongoing free agency moratorium period. However, he acknowledged Utah has already made a couple positive moves on paper and he likes the direction the Jazz are heading.
Corbin expects Utah's 2012-13 offense to mostly remain the same. But he expects to make some changes to the team's pick-and-roll defense, which was a liability throughout 2011-12. Alterations could be based off personnel changes, Corbin said.
Lastly, Corbin said it's an honor for the Jazz to have Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors practicing with the U.S. men's basketball team in Las Vegas.

Bulls supposedly adding Redd and Bayless to their list of candidates.

I remember when Redd was having a HOF type career with the Bucks. that was before he got injured. Dude was one of the top SG's in the league....Lights out! But now...:smh:

Jerryd Bayless is cool as well. He could give you a good 12ppg and 1o apg. He was also due to have a nice season last year.....but he too got injured ...so he didnt get a chance to shine.

Redd and Bayless would be decent pick ups. They both could be great additions to our bench.

As for Lou....I wouldnt go into that luxury tax for him. I know Bulls fans think we're missing out on something during this off season...but I beg to differ. Especially based off who we actually had a shot at getting. Next years FA will be our time to shine.

We'll make the playoffs this year....but we aint competing for a title. Hence we need to be wise with who we sign. We already wasted enough money as it is.

this is what I was saying. He was telling everyone he wanted to stay here. He knew they were not going to be a championship team but he like everyone expected big things to happen with those three draft picks.

Houston fuck up royally

How did they fuck up

Camby averaged seven points. He wasn't important. You act like he was essential.

Fucking up is that Lowry trade and losing Dragic.

you forgot the 9 rebounds and the 1.5 blocks

Miami doesnt have a center capable of such on that roster and if they get Camby on the low its a HUGE uprade for them

He doesn't need to score to be effective. As long as he he concentrates on the defensive end and hit that ugly jumper every now and then he'd be perfect for the Heat.

I would love if they could get Bayless and Redd. They tried to acquire Bayless a few years back and Portland refused to trade him. At worst he could provide some instant offense for the team. And he's the same age as Derrick Rose so he still has room to grow.
Redd would just fill the spot of Korver. I like these moves though I still wish that they'd gotten a 2nd round pick and taken Will Barton or Doron Lamb.

Camby has very little value to a team like the Rockets who are rebuilding.

He does have a lot of value for the Heat who need a C close to 7 ft tall who can board and protect the rim. They would have to monitor his minutes like the Celtics did with KG though.

still getting it done..

you are a Lakers fan though so I expect you do downplay it

its a good move though

as a basketball fan I have to acknowledge that

A old player with no offense who misses a good portion of every year...ok :dunno:

I'd rather them sign him than Ray Allen.

He's a better rebounder than Anthony, but Anthony at his age is a better defensive player and blocks just as many shots :dunno:

At the end of the games, Ray Allen would be in the games, Marcus Camby wouldn't...but ok good move.
