NY Prep Star Hamidou Diallo declares for the NBA draft.

This could ALL be handled if the NBA were to develop their D-League to the point that every NBA team has a D-League affiliate. Then they can life the mandatory 1 year rule, too.

Shit, could the league down, and make some of those teams D-League teams.

Saw him play AAU

Skipping college as a guard is a lot different than a big. It takes more than athleticism. He's going to be missing a lot of the fundamentals and it's another level of competition.

If you don't have a consistent jumper as a guard you aren't playing. Much less being able to play defense against NBA players.

He didn't hire an agent, so I hope he doesn't do it.

After that 30 for 30 fluff piece on coach K
Only an idiot wouldn't take the check

Don't you mean Cal?

The annoying shit is ESPN showed that shit every fuckin day for four straight days.

Not for nothing, the D-league pays too, and I don't see anything super special about his style of play that would make me think he's a stand out. It's just a lot of dunks and lay ups against high schoolers. It's not going to be that easy in the NBA. 2nd rounder at best that could end up in the D-league after Summer league games.

Ask his Kentucky teammates who he's practiced against for the last three months if he's the real deal or not.

yeah he still needs to mold his game some.....especially strength wise.
i always thought Brandon Ingram should have stayed in college a few more years......and here he is only averaging 3 made baskets a game.
i have a feeling Hamidou will do the same....if not ride the bench for the first year.

What Hamidou has got going for him is athleticism and length since he has a 6'10 wingspan at 6'5. What he's got going against him is no reliable outside shot from any range and also he's from NYC, NYC prospects have been on downtrend for awhile now

Wait a minute i thought kids couldn't go straight to the pros from high school anymore

Trips me out when some of these lottery type guys stay like Miles Bridges and Robert Williams. No matter how much I love the college experience, it's hard to turn down a few mil

Some kids just aren't ready. It's a lot of lottery guys that end up in the NBDL and then out the league. The difference in money between a top 5 pick and the bottom of the lottery is almost double.

When the money is there you gotta take it. All it takes is a freak accident during the college season to become a "What if story".

I'll never forget

dude should come back. he could possibly be a lottery pick next season. i understand the injury concern but if you playing basketball afraid to get injured you need to change careers. go cut hair. work in a warehouse or some shit.

I used to believe that players should go to college to develop their skillset and get a free education but the more life i'm experiencing, the more I realize that if the money is right, you have to take it. The Colleges are after their own interests, the NBA is after theirs, the players need to be 100% out for their interests. In event of injury or getting exposed as not good enough, the person taking the burden is the player. There are plenty of ex college stars in all sports in the same projects they grew up in. Baseball Players get drafted right out of HS. If a Law Student was offered 1 million to drop out and intern at a top firm, they would take it. Let these bruthas get their money without having to make someone else rich.Best case Scenario is he gets drafted high, balls out, then renegotiates for more millions. Worst case scenario is he gets drafted low, makes 1 million and sucks. That ain't bad. Plenty of people he grew up with never made half a mill their entire lives.

Guaranteed 3 year contract if you're a first rounder. I just can't tell a kid he's wrong to take that

Second highest in Combine history.

If he is going first round he should go. If he goes in the bottom of the first round he would go to a playoff team. You could always go back to school. Make that money.

Hearing the Bucks (17th pick) & Nets (22 & 27th pick) are very interested. If any gives him a promise, he's gotta bolt.

Get the paper young man. You go to school to get money. He will get more money in 3 years then he would in a lifetime. No brainer.
Exactly... but if he goes to Kentucky and breaks his leg
on his first dunk attempt, and is not able to walk there
after..

if you feel you are going to get drafted with certainty in the first round, you go. simple as that. college is not going to do anything that you can do on your own with a few mil in your pocket and getting better with a skill coach hire. you have three years to prove worthy of the second hefty contract.

what are your thoughts on tony bradley still not getting an agent yet? I think him and Caleb are still holding out.

I think Bradley is gonna go pro. Probably gonna be a Spur. A friend of mine said you can't get good players past the lottery and they are definitely wrong. Spurs always draft good quality players late. No pressure on a young kid to go to a contender and not have to play right away or play with a veteran cast. Pretty nice situation.

Perhaps but the spurs never asked for a workout from him

Kentucky's Hamidou Diallo declares for NBA draft, has not hired agent

Kentucky's Hamidou Diallo, who signed with the Wildcats less than four months ago, is entering the NBA draft without an agent.

Diallo enrolled at Kentucky in January but didn't play in a game. He would be a redshirt freshman for the 2017-18 season.

"Playing in the NBA has always been the ultimate goal for me," Diallo said in a release. "It's part of what makes Kentucky so special is that it prepares you for the next level better than anywhere else. When I decided to enroll in school in January, my plan was to come to Kentucky to work on my game and to focus on school. At the end of the season, I knew I wanted to see where I was in the draft process and go through that so I could get a proper evaluation.

"That plan hasn't changed, and that's why I am declaring for the NBA draft. I do not plan on hiring an agent at this time. I want to see where my game is and explore my options. I just want to keep all doors open, and I want to thank Coach Cal [John Calipari], the coaching staff and my teammates for allowing me to pursue my dreams."

Diallo was a five-star recruit in the ESPN 100 for 2017, but it became clear in the fall that Diallo planned on leaving high school during winter break and enrolling in college early. When Diallo signed with Kentucky over Connecticut in January, speculation grew that Diallo could opt to leave for the NBA without ever playing a college game. Because he graduated from Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut last spring, Diallo is one year removed from his high school graduation and therefore eligible for the NBA draft.

NBA scouts watched Diallo multiple times during the early part of the high school season. He struggled in front of a couple of dozen NBA personnel at the National Prep Showcase in November, but he performed well in December at the National High School Hoops Festival. If Diallo decides to stay in this year's draft, he could go in the late first round, NBA executives told ESPN.

Diallo is the sixth Kentucky player to enter the NBA draft this spring, following guards De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk and Isaiah Briscoe and forwards Bam Adebayo and Isaac Humphries. Of those five, Adebayo is the only one not to sign with an agent yet.

they prob gonna put him in the slam dunk contest if he gets drafted..since they like to push the new talent for the nba slam dunk contest..that's where he gonna have to try to shine the most

Funny cause I think that Bradley is going to go back. He could possibly go a lot higher next year and there's other people like Jarrett Allen and Justin Patton who fit similar roles in this year's draft. Swanigan probably can't improve his stock so he'll probably stay in the draft.

That league is for grown men, it's better to go as prepared as possible than get into a bad situation and wash out.

Things changed. Long gone are the Oakley, Mahorns and Mcdaniels of yesteryear. This is a league of finesse play and small ball. Those two guys would fit right in

Maybe, there's a graveyard of dudes who "fit" in that can't find a spot. There's only 12 active spots, guys aren't filtering out the league for every incoming rookie to have a spot. Getting drafted is just the beginning of the end, can you sustain a career? Can you get to a second contract? If you're not ready...don't blow your wad for draft night.

Answer me this. Would you rather return to school, be a potential lottery pick on a shitty franchise or would you rather get drafted in the 20's..pay your dues (dleague, ride the pine for awhile) with a winning franchise?

I could be wrong but there seems to be as many lottery picks out the league as there are late first rounders.

It's a crap shoot, which is why it's best to get there as ready as possible. The winning team is the ideal situation, but even then...you're gonna ride the pine & when your deal is up there's a good chance they move & now you're a journeyman. I want kids getting there as ready as possible.

Or those teams bring you along to replace older players. Sorta of like what the Spurs and Golden State are doing.
