The reason why the MAx is over looked is the same reason for most mid size cars like the Mitsu Diamonte. America is trying to shift the Market towards Smaller size Fuel Minded Cars. Due to gas prices going up. Then you have the Vast amount of New car buyers that want to look for cheaper Vehicles...

6 series BMW (used 2007)----- But it was much heavier than I thought it was and the power seemed to get lost with the weight. (at this point buying the name did not mean much)

Swapped the Air intake and exhaust for Stillen Parts. Had Nissan Install the parts So my Warranty is not Voided.
I waiting till my warranty is done before I have someone Modify the engine for a super charger. (UNLESS MAX COMES OUT WITH A AWD Version)

G37 or M45 for the win. Seriously I'm a Nissan dude 2010 Path full loaded with V8 engine 4x4 and 03 G35 sedan... Previously 99max Se... which I upgraded for the G35. Do you seriously think Im going back to any Nissan Sedans? NOPE.

I have had 2 Max's, a 99 which got hit and totalled and now a 04. I love(d) both, but I do agree to a certain extent that Nissan is messing up, because the Altima and Maxima are almost indistinguishable. They look too much alike and offer the a lot of same options

Ya'll niggas find anything to argue about... The reason the Maxima isnt poppin is because Nissan failed with it. There is nothing unique about it. Whos gonna buy a front wheel drive 3.5L "4 door sports car" for 40,000. NOBODY, when you can get a used all-wheel drive M35 for less... Same engine, better interior, and nicer exterior IMO. The Altima has had the same exact engine in it for the past 8 years!!! There isnt anything differing the 2 other than a couple of inches of space!!! Plain and simple one needs to go or be dramatically changed.

I was thinking the same thing! It you get stuck in the snow, you have a better change of getting out with front wheel drive. The first two cars I owned were rear wheel drive and I for the life of me can't tell the difference.
Co-Sign... I loved my Maxima 6spd. Once I found out that my 2003 was the last year they made a manual Maxima... I moved on to an 2005 Acura TL 6spd.

AWD+SNOW just means you spin out 4 wheels instead of 2. You can drive ANY RWD car in snow....you just need a good set of snow tires.

Actually, before this current Maxima, back when the Altima was refreshed, it had a MORE powerful engine than the Maxima did. It was a joke. There is very little market for a large sedan. Just about everyone has a hard time moving them (retail). People rather buy a crossover than a bigger car.
C/S I'm in northern Va and I have a rear wheel drive 4runner...shoulda took that deal the dealer offered me on the 4x4. I have a 09 maxima and it got around dam good in the ice and snow.

I've had 2 Maximas. A '98 with a supercharger, exhaust, intake and a '03 with Titanium package (helical LSD) to which I rebuilt the engine: overbored, balanced, high comp pistons, HD bolts, shaved heads, ported & polished, headers, exhaust, intake, external computer-dyno tuned. Believe me, neither one of those cars could be touched by anything not an M3 or similar.
And FWD is just fine, it just understeers. Just like RWD oversteers, doesn't matter. AWD is the move. In the 80s Nissan was talking about putting the Skyline badge and drivetrain in the Max. That's what they should have done since the platform is the same except for AWD. Of course the straight 6 would replace the V-8, but that's what the JDM Max WAS.
Nissan took the Fairlady and badged it M-35 or M-45 for USDM and redesigned the Skyline on the Max platform and rebadged it GTR. All-in-all, those of us who were waiting for the Skyline just didn't get it. The Ms are heavier and slower because of the extra insulation and electronics.
I got sick of it and when I totaled my '03 Max, I got a Legacy. I'm up to stage 3 now and believe me, ain't many can run with me. AWD has always been the best drivetrain- F-1 cars use it- it's just also always been the least gas efficient. Tires too. But I can go like a motherfucker in the snow and with launch control, nothings beat me off the line yet.

Funny you mentioned insurance I just got a quote from Geico all they want is 1700 per 6 months in NYC... Not to bad considering.
