Nissan maxima, the blacksheep of nissan

I've driven the G37....that shit felt like a Civic. Small and tight. I don't think I can put it on the same level as the Maxima, cabin wise.

Don't see how can Nissan market the Maxima when the Altima 2.5/3.5 is the market leader for Nissan. I see way more G37's than Maxima's in my area, and if Nissan push the Maxima then G37 sales will lose out. I think that Nissan need to go back to it's roots with the Maxima as a 4door sports car it was once marketed as.

I owned a 2003 Nissan Maxima 6spd (Rare) that I loved up until amost three years ago when some idiot totaled my car on the I-4 and took off in his van.

I've been saying this. The G35 and the new Altima has really made the Maxima irrelevant. I've loved Maxima's for years but why would you buy a Maxima when you can get a G35 or an Altima for less money?

since when is a g37 cheaper than a maxima?

I'm 6'2 , that shit is small. Looks great in that picture. But compare the cabin size (not quality) of a G37 and a Maxima, big difference.

You're smokin' that good crack. G35 and that other car don't even belong in the same sentence. Civic, yeah that car, doesn't belong in the same sentence as the superior one you mentioned. :)

G35/G37 are for enthusiasts. No, I take that back...6MT G35's/G37's are for enthusiasts. It's a luxury sports coupe fool, it's supposed to be tight. You want more room and keep the luxury sportiness? Get a M45.

No one is talking about the cabin, we're talking price and options on different makes, same manufacturer. Similar to Toyota Avalon vs. Lexus 330. Do you get top of the line plushness in a Toyota, or standard-only entry-level accommodations of the Lexus 330?

But anyway, as far as Hyundai is concerned, I have much respect for them. They've come a long way from the days of the Excel. LOL I remember when Excel was referred to a car, now it's a spreadsheet program. But that user manual? S-L-I-C-K.

I have the 2009 Maxima.

First off. Infiniti and Lexus are only sold in The United States. As luxury versions of nissan and toyota. This is just another mean of getting more money out of people who want to fall for the marketing.

I agree the G35 is a Maxima. I agree I would love to have an AWD Maxima. As for rear wheel, I am not sure. I had to help this guy push his 6 series BMW when it got stuck in the snow. Snow conditions Rear Wheel SUX!

ummm im not disagreeing with you.. I guess the maxima was cool.. but know your history son.. HONDA via ACURA started this Jap lux gangsta shit , you mean to tell me this the thanx we get

The 2002 Altima killed the Maxima. Up until that time Nissan had this bizarre strategy of a small 4 cylinder Altima and large 6 cylinder Maxima going up against Accords and Camrys. While it made sense on paper, in the market it was confusing because everyone else had large 4 cylinder family cars that came in more powerful V6 variants. The 02 Altima was created to solve this market confusion and give Nissan a straight up competitor for Accord and Camry. Unfortunately this left Maxima the odd man out. It could not go rear wheel drive (as previously stated by OP) because of Infiniti and because of Maxima's market position, could not follow Avalon as being a large, comfy old-man cruiser.

Nissan has tried with this latest Maxima to make it a styling leader. I actually like it but I think they need to up the sport quotient somewhat. AWD (as someone suggested) would be a very good idea as it would take the sport up a notch. Make it a TL, Volvo, Saab, Volkswagen CC rival.

The g35 is not a maxima stop smoking crack the specs are totally different, thr only thing that is the same is nissan rebranding of infiniti... The specs u get on infiniti in tge us isnt even offered in japan on nissan, models.

the maxima is supposed to be a front wheeled drive sporty sedan. thats how it was killing, the problem was when the altima moved upmarket it was so much better priced it became the volume seller and killed the max's target market. Like SUV's did with the minivan/station wagon game. I bought a 97 i30T for my first car purchase because i couldn't find a max I liked when i was making a purchase. that VQ engine was the shit but everything else advanced much faster than they did with the max.

I had a rental Altima back in 07 and drove it from maryland 2 atl to austin and it drove really well. It handled amazingly good, better than I had expected. I enjoy driving it as much if not more than my old acura cl and the new tl.

The G 35 is an Altima Size, with a Maxima Engine, rear wheel or AWD set up. The Engine for the Maxima and the G35 2004-7 are identical. The Air intake and Exhaust is what make the difference plus weight makes it Faster.

Add the g is lighter as well. The maxima aint going no where because there is a heavy tuner market for it. Styling the infiniti looks 100 times better than most bimmers and benzs.... The g sedan was based off the nissan primera which nissan upped the g20 sedan.

Clearly the g35 sedan offers way more options than the maxima or any other nissan vehicle..

Funny shit is I was in the market for an armada, but ended up copping a 2010 pathfinder se with the v8 engine 4x4... All top of the line options like the armada, basically identical yet I still saved 10 grand cause the path is smaller.

OP, you're having nameplate nostalgia. Cars go through this all the time, where the original name remains, but the purpose is different. The Maxima is still Nissans flagship although it's competition is different. The Maxima is categorized as large sedan like the Toyota, Avalon, Hyundai Azera and Ford Taurus, that it directly competes against. Just look at what the Taurus is now in comparison to what it was when introduced. You answered your own question when you said the G37 embodies what the Maxima was and it is in the same price range. So let the name go and just get the car the performs and costs what you want.

The Maxima suffered because of the 3.5 Altima. People looking at a max can get the Altima with the same engine cheaper. Nissan is never going to give the Maxima rwd or awd as long as they have the G37.
I have an 03 6speed and it moves. A few suspension upgrades and these cars handle great. I hate the fact that they no longer offer the 6spd as an option though so this is probably my last Maxima. My next car will probably be a G37 6spd or 335.
