NFL: There are only 11 minutes of action in a game. Why do we love this sport?

Basketball has 48 minutes of action
Soccer has 57 minutes of action
Baseball has only 17 minutes of action
Hockey has 60 minutes of action

11 minutes of game action that translates into a 3.5 hour event tho.

Where do you get that number from?

the 11 minutes are more physically taxing than any of the other sports combined

if football was 11 minutes long...
if football was 6 full minutes long of non stop action people would die,.
broken everything and paralyzed
could not survive it
this is a stupid study and comparison
Why is it a stupid study Bruh?

Because they're comparing action time like all action is exactly the same. It only makes sense if the action is the same thing through all sports. if they said this same professional league has more action doing the same thing then it fits, otherwise it doesn't.

the game itself is 60 times minutes long. that's 60 minutes that have to come off the clock.
half time is usually 20-30 minutes or so.
so if they didn't have a timeout or commercial break it'd still be 1.5 hours on TV.
Now, like i said if they had more action time there would be no more football. they damn near think its too violent now and there is only 11 minutes of action...
The action is in bursts of excitement not fluid throughout thus the excitement as well.

Yeah, that's why I don't get why people say soccer is boring. They equate scoring with action. It's silly.

This America mayne...

It's a cultural thing.

The only thing that matters is score, scoring, and winning.

The fuck am I going to spend +90 minutes to watch some fucks go nil-nil THEN WALK OFF THE FIELD OF PLAY? THERE MUST BE A WINNER.

The main reason football will FOREVER be referred to as soccer and associated with Capri Suns, orange slices, participation trophies, and little kids sitting in the grass picking dandelions as the ball rolls past them.

Uh....no offense.

Hockey is fast as hell. Not sure if you've been to a live game, but watching on television vs watching live are two totally different experiences. Non-Stop action.
this is true but it isnt always at full speed

especially on power plays

Nah haven't been to a game.

However fast paced doesn't necessarily equal action IMO.

I disagree. I mean, the fact that they take shifts every 2-3 minutes, most times while the puck is still in play (outside of timeouts), ensures they are playing at full speed. If you half ass a shift change, the other team has an easier chance at scoring or getting an uneven advantage.

man ive been to plenty of sabres games and they play at full speed 50% of the time

when theyre passing the puck around its not at full speed

hockey is at the same speed as basketball
they have iso plays
breakout plays
etc

but its not always at fulls speed

I've been to quite a few myself (Sabres!!) over the years, and I recall the experience differently. Since players are checking in and changing shifts during game action, the speed of the game comes off, to me, as a faster pace than most sports.

Not saying football is not full speed, but I feel hockey is not far from it if not matching it, since the puck is always in play. Enforcers and goalies aside, most NHL players are out there skating their asses off trying to get or defend against the puck.

I get that... But they are essentially providing a high level birds eye view of actually game time. None of the articles I've read from this thread get to the level of granularity you speak of. The articles aren't saying which sport is better, more demanding, etc.
Its just saying that all told, the amount of time involved in game action for each sport is such and such.

Its not a stupid study if the numbers are accurate, and they aren't comparing sports based on game action time, just giving the total average game time for each....

It's the last organized TEAM sport with some level of violence.

Men like to break shit and do things in groups/packs. Even the physically weak enjoy a little ruckus sometime. They are weaning out the violence and it will kill the sport imo.

Football with no violence, might as well just watch the artistry and endurance in soccer

I agree. Culture comes into play. But soccer is non-stop action with strategy. Shit is hard. And watching a play that could score is intense.

Soccer is about soccer moms here. Participation trophies. But in other parts of the world, it's crazy. One day -- after lawyers get through with the league -- folks might embrace soccer(football) like the rest of the world does.

I came to appreciate it playing the game on pc and watching some world cup. Not much scoring, but far from boring if you get the game. It's like grappling in MMA. Americans too fucking impatient to enjoy decent grappling.

I think a lot of people are hoping to see their team FINALLY win.
Waiting on that one good season they can be proud of their team after all the years of dedicated watching and spending money to participate at sporting events.

It's far too embedded in the cultural fabric of America.
Not liking football can be sometime be synonymous with how unpatriotic you are. lol

That is a big let down. Watching something for a maybe/could without payoff time after time is not much fun.
