NFL made calls to get Michael Sam signed to a practice squad

I don't like this.
Can anyone name another Player who got this special treatment?
Tebow?
Vince Young?
The Rhodes Scholar?

Uhhh... No... He was a 3rd rounder at best... I do agree had he not come out he may have been a 4th or 5th rounder, but in no way shape or form was he ever 1st rounder.
You're being very generous... I had him as a 5th round pick. He's a tweener who cannot play on special teams.

And slow. If not for the gay stuff, I think he'd have gone in rounds 4 or 5. When you look at how he performed against teams with NFL quality players in college, he didn't do as good.

I was. He never stood out to me when I saw him play, even with his awards. He was just another kid with ok talent that played hard. Nothing wrong with that, but that wont make you an impact player in the league and yes 3rd round was a reach, I was just saying no one had the kid high at all...

Its a shame that his sexuality takes precedence over his ability. This is one backwards ass country to say the least.

Exactly. There are Heisman Trophy winners that didn't/couldn't make it in the league so why in the hell is it so outrageous that he wasn't on a squad? The ONLY reason this guy is getting all of this pub is that he had a press conference about who he sleeps with.

Michael Sam played and performed in the best conference in college football, the SEC. he was the defensive player of the year and all he did was get to and sack the quarterback. No matter what physical limitations he had, dude has a knack of getting to the QB. That alone, coupled with his shortcomings, should have put him in the 5th round at the least. Anything past that shows teams were concerned with the media frenzy that would have come with having him on your team.

True. I'm completely in agreement with you.

Wow, didn't know that. Makes this story even crazier with context. :smh:

Sam is not the first gay player in the NFL. He's simply the first player to have a press conference saying that he's gay. He created the media circus. I don't blame any team for not wanting to deal with that. The fact that Tony Dungy was blasted for telling the truth is the whole point.

You know... If, hypothetically, Clowney had a press conference announcing that he was gay he would have STILL gone first. He has the talent to support the risk. Sam didn't AND had to get help from the NFL to land on a squad. That's wrong. What about the other 7th rounders that didn't make it on a practice squad? Furthermore, my Cowboys are GOING to activate him by week three. Watch. That said, if he can help us win then so be it.

MORE context:

http://thebiglead.com/2014/02/10/mi...as-been-drafted-outside-the-first-two-rounds/

To get some sense of the range of outcomes for the “productive” players who won*their major conference Defensive Player of the Year awards, I looked back at the last decade in the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big XII, and Pac-10/12. In the SEC, only one player who won the award was selected outside the top 33 picks in the draft–Chad Lavalais of LSU (who won the award in 2003) in the fifth round (pick #148 overall). When we look at all five conferences, here are the results:

Of the 54 players, almost three-fourths were selected in the first two rounds of the draft (74.1%). Only three players lasted past the sixth round–all undrafted, and all three were middle linebackers/leaders of defenses.

Cowboys Waive Michael Sam From Practice Squad
Tuesday, October 21, 2014 2:24 PM CDT

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys have decided to waive defensive end Michael Sam.

The practice squad player who joined the team on Sept. 3, spent the first seven weeks of the season on the 10-man squad and never made it to the 53-man roster.

Sam, the first openly-gay player in the NFL, was a seventh-round draft pick of the Rams. He spent all of the offseason and training camp with the St. Louis before being released and signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad.

The move opens a spot for linebacker Troy Davis, a second-year pro from Central Florida who worked out with the team on Monday.

Exactly!! Motherfuckers talk about how they want to be treated equally... if that was the case, where are their 'leaders' to denounce being given special media treatment for the normally mundane occurances?! I don't give a fuck what anyone says, all this coming out shit is about attention whoring, and I'm glad teams are bending to the pressure of keeping Dude around solely to keep up with the new 'trend' :hmm:
