7h ·Newark, New Jersey Mayor Ras Baraka has been arrested and is currently in ICE custody.
The arrest was confirmed by U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba, who posted on X that Mayor Baraka trespassed and ignored warnings from Homeland Security members.
Earlier this week, Baraka was vocal about his opposition to using the location as a detention center for migrants. Serving as Newark's mayor since 2014, Baraka is also currently running for governor.
