Say hello to the all-new 2016 Chevy Camaro. Revealed today at the Detroit Belle Isle to a roaring aggregation of Camaro owners, enthusiasts, and fans, the model marks the sixth generation of the sports car and brings higher levels of performance, technology, and refinement.

To underscore how “all-new” the 2016 Camaro is, consider that only two parts carry over from the fifth-generation Camaro to the new sixth-gen. The two parts in question are the rear bowtie emblem and the SS badge.

From the outset, the new Camaro was developed to provide a faster, more nimble driving experience. This is enabled by an all-new vehicle architecture — the Alpha platform — that is leaner and stiffer as well as by an all-new powertrain range that is broader.

The 2016 Camaro is 200 pounds or more lighter (depending on the model) than the outgoing fifth-generation model. This, right away, creates a more nimble, responsive driving experience. It also allows the 2016 Camaro to be the most efficient Camaro ever.

Three engine choices will be offered:

  • The base 2016 Camaro will be powered by GM’s ubiquitous 2.0-liter LTG turbo-charged inline-four making 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque
  • The optional mid-level motor on the 2016 Camaro is GM’s all-new 3.6-liter LGX naturally-aspirated V6 making 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque
  • The 2016 Camaro SS engine is the 6.2-liter LT1 naturally-aspired V8 making 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque
All engines can be mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

On the outside, the 2016 Camaro is more sculpted and more muscular. The vehicle appears significantly lower and wider than before, even though it is within two inches of the exterior dimensions of the fifth-gen model. Engineers spent countless hours in the wind tunnel to improve cooling and reduce aerodynamic lift and drag. The result is a design that not only communicates the performance capabilities of the new Camaro, but also contributes to them.

To make it not only the best Camaro ever, but one of the best performance cars available, Chevrolet focused on three pillars of development:

Performance
  • Vehicle mass has been reduced by 200 pounds or more, depending on the model, creating a more nimble, responsive driving experience
  • Most efficient Camaro ever, with a new 2.0L turbo SAE-certified at 275 hp (205 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) – and delivers more than 30 mpg on the highway (GM-estimated), and 0-60 mph acceleration well under 6 seconds
  • Efficient performance in a new 3.6L V-6 featuring direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and – for the first time – Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation), offering an SAE-certified 335 hp (250 kW) and 284 lb-ft of torque (385 Nm), for the highest specific output of any naturally aspirated V-6 in the segment
  • The most powerful Camaro SS ever, with a new 6.2L LT1 direct-injected Small Block V-8 rated at 455 hp (339 kW) and 455 lb-ft of torque (617 Nm)
  • Magnetic Ride Control active suspension available on Camaro SS for the first time
  • With improved handling and performance, the Camaro SS delivers better lap times than the fifth-generation’s track-focused Camaro 1LE package.

Technology
  • All-new Drive Mode Selector, which tailors up to eight vehicle attributes for four modes: Snow/Ice, Tour, Sport and – on SS models – Track settings
  • Segment-exclusive, Interior Spectrum Lighting that offers 24 different ambient lighting effects on the dash, door panels, and center console
  • High-definition, configurable color displays – including available dual, 8-inch-diagonal screens.
Design
  • More athletic-looking, sculptured exterior that complements the tighter, leaner architecture – and offers all-new, modern lighting signatures, including light-emitting diode (LED) technology
  • Greater emphasis on customer personalization with wider range of choices, including 10 exterior colors, five interior color combinations, lighting options and a full complement of dealer-available accessories available at launch – including wheels, stripe packages and additional accessories
  • Aerodynamically optimized design that is the result of 350 hours of wind tunnel testing, reducing drag on LT models and improving downforce on SS
  • All-new, interior with shifter-focused center console, intuitive controls, flat-bottom steering wheel, and higher quality materials throughout
  • Unique control rings around the air vents used for temperature and fan speed adjustments, eliminating the need for conventional buttons

what is the difference between this one and the one before

changes are mostly under the sheetmetal...

it's built on the much lighter Cadillac ATS (Alpha) platform instead of the Zeta platform (shared with the Pontiac G8/Chevy SS)

Looks like new headlight design, and rear lights as well. I like... The four cylinder turbo is what I'm interested in seeing.

In a muscle car they can keep that shit. As an import guy we get laughed at for it, but when they slap it in a "muscle car" it's now accepted??? GTFOH!!! The entire point of a muscle car is a big, bad ass engine. Otherwise why the hell would you buy it??? SMH. But you can go look inside any GTI, Evo, STI, or modded Si and see a boosted 4 banger in a car that will have better performance numbers.

Interested in seeing does not mean interested in buying...I'm not a car guy, but would like to see the performance numbers of the Camaros 4 cylinder turbo engine. The best turbo 4 cylinder belongs to the Kia Optima, 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder.0-60 in 6.6 seconds, and averaging 26 MPG. I like trucks, and Jeeps.

Uhhh... Bruh... A 2.5 STI will do sub 5 easy as will an Evo and a Speed3 will do mid 5s. My N/A 2.4 would do low 6s when i bone stock and was getting 29 mpgs. If youre talking 2.0s an 8th gen Si N/A will do low 6s stock. Kia in no way shape or form makes the best 4 banger turbo from a real world performance stand point. The 2.0 turbo Genesis coupe is slow as a cruise ship, just like the 4 banger Mustang and this will be. Lol I live in the real world not the print world. As heavy as a Camaro is with a little ass 4 banger with RWD isn't going to get shit to the ground. They juke those stats to look good in a perfect environment, get those cars on the street/much less a track and it's so much different.

I guess this Turbo 4 cyl is gonna be like the SVO Mustang was for ford back in the 80s that car was a fuckin Beast and would run over the top of a GT
:hmm:

Co sign and anyone in that should be laughed off the street

I wanna see what they gonna do with the ZL1 and Z28, Im still in love with my 2013, only thing that would make me want a 6th gen is if they bring back the orange color.

Best looking body since the first gen. Nice torque on the LT1. I'd stick a blower on it and cherry it cause fuck it I like to go fast. Wouldn't even bother racing this anywhere but straight though. You need granite balls to have this car with a six or four cause you gonna be tested. And you will fail.

This... I see more V6s getting their pride hurt than any other make. The V8s will rip you a new one. Them V6s are weak as water considering their price. Those and non SRT or better Challangers are some of the biggest frauds on the streets now.

Lmao 4 cyl turbo "muscle" car Foh with this babbage.

I agree it's strange but hard to argue when it gives comparable power, more torque and better MPGs than alot of NA V6s..

in the new Mustang, the V6 is actually the base engine and the turbo 4 is the upgrade

I'm laughing at the hypocrisy and the years of Japanese and European clowning that was done by Domestic fanboys.

:yes: Plus the whole idea of adding a 4 cylinder to beef up sales is just pure greed and goes against the whole point of a traditional muscle car. I hate all the brands that do that shit.

V8 or bust!
