On Oct. 17 around 7:30 p.m., officers were called out to a home near 12th and South Houston for a possible "axe-ing."
The victim, 22-year-old Jimmy Patterson, was sitting on the couch in the apartment eating. The suspect, now known as Israel Trejo, was standing in the living room holding an axe that he was attempting to buy from someone else.
Patterson and Trejo never to spoke to each other before Trejo swung the axe and struck Patterson in the head.
Patterson was taken to the hospital with the axe still stuck in his head. He died, days later, in the hospital from his injuries.
Trejo ran from the scene but was caught by officers around 6th and Peoria.
Several witnesses were in the house at the time and security cameras also caught the incident on video.
Trejo is now facing several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and first-degree murder.

I'm not watching it. What happened?
Same exact sound.

I've mentioned this story before in years past.

Used to work in landscaping / yardwork jobs in my teens into early-20s. The summer of '96 (still in high school) I worked for one of my dad's friends. He was able to line up 4 - 5 jobs in a half block stretch about 15 mins on foot from my house (projects that lasted 2 - 3 months total). It was really convenient and a great workout walking to and from with my gear, and all the duties on shift. One of my coworkers was a guy in his 20s. Tough dude who could hold his own. He comes on shift one morning and asks me if I want to hear the story about the near-axe attack the evening prior. I'm like, WTF?

Apparently he got into an argument with another guy at the following bus loop (Kootenay Loop) in Vancouver. Out in the open ... lots of bystanders. He's tired and sweaty from another day on the job and thinks he's gonna have to square up and fight this guy. The guy pulls an axe out of his back and starts chasing him with it ... swinging away. My friend's weaving like he's running a complex pass route or something and fortunately was NOT hurt. He said he kept his head on a swivel in the weeks to follow and didn't see that guy again. Police were called & I don't remember hearing about the guy being apprehended. May or may not have been. Unfortunately it being nearly 30 years ago ... cellphones, better CC cameras at businesses & dashcams weren't in play ... but there was bound to be some surveillance footage at the bus loop itself. It's on a busy corner of a main thoroughfare between cities.

Coworker says to me (paraphrased) - "My life flashed before my eyes. Am I gonna get axed to death in front of lots of people at a bus loop at 5 or 6pm? What the fuck?!"

Generic photo of the buses waiting (minus the people) ...

Didn't even look like a regular store bought axe. Looked like a medieval type for display.

Was probably in the crib on some cosplay weirdo chit.

Seen a lot of horrific things in my travels, never an axe. Damn

Definitely could easily fuck someone up with one of those.

Crazy / funny side note ... my dad gave me a pickaxe to use that summer. Said to bring it with me to work as it's a great multi-purpose tool to have. I made sure not to look too crazy walking to work at 7am with one of those by my side, haha. Come to think of it - should have given it to the coworker for his crazy bus rides home!

That's fucked up! Victim was only 22 and he didn't even know dude. There was no relationship between the two, that psycho just did that shit for whatever reason. :smh:

I'm surprised the victim died days later, per the article.

You'd think right on impact with that type of strike and probable blood loss.

That is wild....damn. It's also strange to me how people just have video cameras inside of their homes constantly recording.
It's a new day cuzzo.
And it's not just Gen-z youngins either.

There are people who feel like an event didn't happened if no one recorded it. I have an aunt with those house cameras all over her place. She said it makes her feel safer to have cameras everywhere.

I use it as a reason to never visit!
