Wow

Waited a couple days to post in here because I wanted evdience to support my claim.

1. This was all for the media and $$$$$$.

A. You think it's coincidence that the Nets decided to sign Collins and his first game would be in LA of all cities???

B. Collins hasn't played for nearly a year and months. The Nets who are desperately weak at the 5 decided now they need a big man? the Nets could have acquired Jordan Hill and all it would have cost them was 17 million more on the luxury tax and a second round pick. Now after giving first round picks away since he became GM Billy King is all of sudden scared?

C. The Nets happen to have a jersey nmber 46 lying around that was in Collins size? Even one of the nets beat writers tweeted this out.

Jason Collins #98 jersey was the top selling jersey on the NBA's website store today

The Nets, however, will NOT offer the No. 98 jerseys at the Nets Store at Barclays Center until Collins is signed for the remainder of the year. Barry Baum, the Nets chief communication officer, told the Times that historically, player-specific merchandise was not made available when a player was on a 10-day contract.

By choosing not to sell the jerseys at their store inside Barclays Center, the Nets are giving up profits. The Nets get 50 percent of sales at the store; only 3 percent --the same as every other NBA team-- if their gear is purchased through the NBA online site. It's a conscious decision, said a league source: that the Nets don't want to appear to make money off Collins. "It's about basketball," said the source. The source added that Nets CEO Brett Yormark decided against marketing the jerseys at the NetsStore.

Collins wore No. 46 on Sunday in Los Angeles because his signing was so sudden that the team didn't have time to put together No. 98. Collins wears the high number to honor the memory of Matthew Shepard, the young gay student at the University of Wyoming who was tortured and murdered in 1998.

I just had a crazy thought.

As more gay players come out ( and they will ), do you think Jason Collins will get a spot in the HOF for being the 1st openly gay player to play a game?

That's what makes this 'event' such a mockery.

Jason Collins aint no Jackie Robinson, he's a scrub getting exploited in a circus orchestrated by the Nets.

He shouldn't. Others had to play in fear of their professional AND personal lives if they came out so they stayed in the closet; he not only announced the shit when he wasn't on a roster but he only got signed after Sam's made his announcement and the NBA decided they needed to one up the NFL; Collins is not a hero as far as I'm concerned.

Collins' jersey selling well in return to NBA

Jason Collins hasn't even worn his No. 98 jersey in a game yet, and already it's a big seller. Collins had four of the top five selling jersey items Wednesday on NBAStore.com, the day the NBA's first openly gay player was to wear the jersey in a game for the first time at Portland.
