Netflix: The Punisher official discussion thread UPDATE: HE IS BACK! (Daredevil Reborn)

All they have to do is say that he spent time in a makeshift super soldier experiment that he has a limited healing Factor . Because Fox is about to sue their ass for stealing the Wolverine character.

I don't get the Wolverine comment. Sarcasm?

I thought it was the best series so far, but I never got through the Defenders or Iron fist.

Outside of the quick healing issue. I must have missed why anyone would think Frank was a terrorist. I get the initial confusion, but that should have been cleared up within hours

Ok. This show is horrible. They didn’t need to make a series on this crap. He could’ve keep making appearances on Daredevil. This shit is a straight drama for women with a little violence chipped in. It was like a big Lifetime movie. I couldn’t even finish this crap.

these comments really say a lot about so much shit.
like
drama for women?
lmfao

I'm kind of shocked at the comments.
This is the realest look at the effects of war I've ever seen on a show.
How all forms of PTSD drive people to do different things and how they're forgotten and expected to function in society with the rest of us and they're not like the rest of us.
Frank never dealt with his PTSD.
Like are yall watching this man wake up to a nightmare every morning and is expected to go on about his day? A nightmare about his family being murdered. His wife being shot in the head BY HIM every single morning and then he's supposed to go to work and go to bowling?

Like Billy is the exact opposite. He let the horrors drive him to make money. Just make money fuck everything else I'm going to be haunted but I'm going to be paid.

I mean damn man this shit was surreal to watch. It was the opposite of mindless. We just watched a 13 episode THRILLER about a man on a war path of revenge we've seen this cat hang glide with 1 arm across buildings and go stealth and take out hit squads go to the fucking woods with an old buddy and survive. find a cia safe house take a perfect shot
we saw this cat do so much

we saw a kid GO MAD in front of our eyes.
a good father who loved him and tried and he STILL went mad and became a terrorist.
I don't know what yall were watching man I really don't
this shit had everything
dope ass fucking villains crazy fighting and combat
and when it time for the blood no punches were pulled

top 3 for me easy. EASY
I see why him and DD got along.

^^In reference to largebills longer post above. That's what makes the show for me. Watching reviews on YouTube have me pissed sometimes. I don't mind the discussion because it can be entertaining, but not so many people not being to relate can drive an opinion way off base. For example: Punisher and the intricacies of his military background and Luke Cage with it's settings and Black characters. There are unspoken things that happen with us that speak volumes that some viewers just won't catch.

And Marvel created their own monster with these series with Iron Fist going into the Defenders. The Defenders should have introduced Iron Fist so the viewers wouldn't get fatigued with The Hand and they could have had more time to develop Iron Fist's series or went straight into Heroes for Hire and uses the contrast of Danny's setting and Luke's setting play off of each other while telling his origin a not wasting time with teaming them up. The could have reworked some of story for it to happen after the Defenders and let him debut fully as Iron Fist just to cut the bullshit.

And they can do a better job with connecting shows through Easter eggs.

Thought it was really good after slow first 3 episodes. When it starts moving, it really starts moving. I thought casting was on point. Although, I would have thought we would see Clair Temple at some point with all the damage Frank was taking.

They definitely took some extra time to address social issues outside the main plot line and as long as it didn't get too preachy then I think it's worked out ok. I particularly like Frank having to deal with the fact that the practical difference between him and Lewis was just a matter of degrees.

That's the thing I've never served so it was breathtaking for me.
I don't know. I had an idea that it ain't all roses but to hear the stories see the support groups see the guys not being able to adjust to civilian life how they're on their own how they aren't heroes when they get back how they felt like they would be which is why they signed up
how they're trained to be a part of something bigger than them and then when they get back they're expected to let that brainwashing go and just be normal where we're all about ourselves...
I had ideas but seeing it play out over 13 episodes.
I mean the season ended with Frank in the fucking group admitting that he's scared.
This guy.
The guy that kills everything and walks into battles with knives and shit this cat is SCARED to not have something to fight and be forced to face himself and chill
It petrifies him to think that he's just going to have to go to work come home eat dinner maybe go out maybe not for the rest of his life cause he has nobody to kill

That's another thing and good mention it wasn't preachy AT ALL. it wasn't trying to beat us over the head with stuff. It felt fluid like this is just what happens this is how the story arc goes this is how it goes for the vets walking among us.

says everything i was thinking.
great series- marvel's got their mojo back after the fail with iron fist and the disappointing defenders

They rushed both
Iron Fist shouldn't have come out till next year probably and defenders in the summer of next year to get it right. Just like it took them a year and a half almost to come out with this series and it shows.
I think originally, Inhumans was supposed to be a netflix show, and it didn't make their cut, so something got moved up. IIRC.

Im a man of gore, but the PUN took it over board. The eye gouging was a bit much. And how many times dude gone get shot...lol. I liked it though

No Inhumans was suppose to be the last movie for Phase 3.

Marvel getting Spider-Man changed all of that...

Inhumans made more sense to partner with Agents of Shield but Scott Buck fucked it up just like Iron Fist....

Iron Fist was suppose to follow Jessica Jones but they swapped it with Cage after his strong debut...

Hopefully Iron Fist gets the Thor Ragnarok treatment since he's the Thor of the MCU/Netflix in terms of quality series... More Heroes for Hire and Shang-Chi and less cooperate stuff.

you aint a man of gore then cause nothing was crazy in this serie.

as far as the show goes i think they focused bit too much on the story then the action. but it was still good.

100 percent fire..great post...I dont really watch much TV but I have not seen a show directly address PTSD and show as much depth...I know it would have taken away from the storyline, but I wish they would have shown a flashback to how Lewis was before he left....as a veteran i can appreciate them showing this because there are still people walking around that has PTSD and it's undiagnosed as such...

I really enjoyed the series...i never paid much attention to the healing time, because after watching 24...they stopped Jack Bauer's heart and next episode, he's up running around like it aint no thing...lol

That screaming that Punisher does reminds me of Trevor from Grand Theft Auto when he goes "rage" mode..lol

The-Punisher-Season-1-Jon-Bernthal-Frank-Castle.jpg

Netflix renews Marvel’s The Punisher for season 2 less than a month after the show’s debut, but it’s unclear when exactly the series will return. In 2015, Marvel and Netflix launched their joint venture with season 1 of Daredevil kicking off a smaller corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that focuses on street-level heroes based in New York City. Since then, Netflix has unveiled freshman seasons of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, the team-up mini-series The Defenders, and an additional outing from Daredevil. However, while these series were all planned from the start of Marvel and Netflix’s partnership, they recently unveiled the first spinoff in The Punisher.

Continuing the story of Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), who debuted in the second season of Daredevil as a semi-antagonist to Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), The Punisher season 1 dove deeper into the character’s history. Over the course of the first season, Frank evolved into the fully-formed Punisher as he tracked down the people responsible for the deaths of his wife and children, and crossed paths with characters fans know from the comics. Although reviews of The Punisher were decidedly mixed, Netflix and Marvel are bringing Frank back for another season of the solo series.

Announced on the official The Punisher Twitter, Marvel and Netflix revealed season 2 of the series is officially coming – but don’t specify when exactly the show will return. With five solo Marvel series currently ongoing – plus the possibility of The Defenders reuniting – Netflix has a number of comic-inspired shows in its lineup and it remains to be seen how The Punisher season 2 will fit into their slate.

With season 1 essentially wrapping up Frank’s quest for revenge on those who killed his family, there are plenty of directions in which The Punisher season 2 could go. Certainly, there are a number of storylines from the comic books that showrunner Steve Lightfoot could adapt – perhaps even the recent The Punisher’s War Machine storyline – or the series could go in a completely new direction altogether. In terms of villains, The Punisher set up Billy Russo to become Jigsaw, an antagonist of Frank’s from the comics, and he will no doubt be a bigger foe in season 2.

Still, it remains to be seen when The Punisher will return. We know Jessica Jones season 2 is the next Marvel series to hit Netflix, with the premiere date set from March 2018. Plus, further seasons of Luke Cage and Daredevil are also expected to debut in 2018. If Marvel/Netflix stick to only releasing three new seasons a year, the earliest The Punisherseason 2 could debut is 2019 – and likely not until the summer or fall because Iron Fist season 2 will likely hit in the early part of that year.

So, while fans of The Punisher will need to wait some time before Frank Castle’s solo series returns, they can at least take comfort in the fact that a second season is officially confirmed.
