I've lost ALL the info on my external hard drive.

I gave my nephew a job to install some software on a notebook computer, I gave him my external hard drive to get software from.

He decided to do over the system after encountering some problems and left my drive plugged in and formatted it in the process......

How or can I retrive the info stored on it?

I've got tons of music and software I collected from here.

The music is very rare, & precious to me!:smh::smh::smh::smh:

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS Brothers!

Gonna try the solution given

It will work, I have used this software on many occasions, I would use it to snag deleted homegrown pics from girls phones when they would drop them off to me to load ringtones.

No, the HD has to be in good working order.
When you format, you are'nt erasing anything on the HD, all windows is doing is reallocating the space as free and can be overwritten. Windows sees the space as free space after a format, when in fact all the data is still there. All this software does is recover the data. In your case your HD is malfunctioning so it would not work because the HD itself does not work.

hold on to the drive. dont fuck with it.
then pray for the next few weeks. then try pluggin it back in. i did that about 2 years ago. waited 6 months. then the drive worked and i quickly backed it up. it continued working for another few weeks before death took it away.

all im saying is, it doesnt hurt to just hold on to it for some time. see if time will "fix" it

I heard that putting it in a freezer helps. What do you think? (I haven't destroyed it yet)

i did that but it didnt help. it was only a temporary fix (worked for about 1 minute then just stopped)
i think you have to wrap it in antistaic plastic before putting it in freezer.

im only talking about my own personal experience i dont know what DOES work for this situation. but i know that its weird to just wait a few weeks and try again....but as weird as that may sound it DID work for me. just put it in a drawer and forget about it. come back around new years and try again.

i have a 10 year old drive that has the same problem as you (2nd time its happened to me) and im trying to wait a few weeks before trying it again. its been 3 weeks now, ill wait till decmber before making another attempt.

again, cant guarantee it will work but it did work once for me and im trying it again on another junk drive that crashed on me

ill let you know my progress
hold on to the drive, keep it in a place where it wont get touched or moved
