damn. off by 1 game again.

alright. here it is.

miami heat wins the title in 6 games. and only because the officials put shaquille o'neal in early foul trouble in 2 of the games.

down with the euro. i hope miami takes out the garbage.

Dampier will be floppin like a fish outta water... Diop will play straight up.

Johnson is not as good as people are making him out to be

He will be exposed this series

I have a wierd feeling that Dirk will get shut down.......

How is Howard doing ? Has his injury improved enough to keep up with ANYBODY on MIami?

Stackhouse will revert to form with a hand in his face...Miami is not Phoniex...Miami's dfense shut Detroit down. The players that looked like stars in the West playoffs will look average in the Finals

Might be a sweep if the refs don't call BS on Shaq and Wade like in the Bulls series.

SP,

You gotta give this Mavs team more credit...I can not imagine a sweep.

Thanks

I had Heat Fever for a moment

For the Mavs to win :?!?!?!?!??!

I haven't really watched them develop as a team throughout the year so I wouldn't really critique them with objectivity. (I leave that for Cran)

However:

I do think the Mavs have a speed advantage they can exploit. The Heat are similar to the Spurs with a dominant inside game and slashers to the hole. The Mavs I think negated that with the speed of Terry and Harris. However after seeing the lack of production in the Suns series from the two of them I am inclined to think that might not be the way to win. Howard is still hurting so I am not sure how effective he would be against an improved defense.

From a mental perspective :

To beat the Spurs was incredible. I attribute it to youth on the Mavs. However The Mavs were up 3-1 on the Spurs and had to go to game 7 overtime to get that.

The Heat on the other hand are 3-1 in close out games and the Mavs are 3-2. That would seem to me to be a slight mental edge.

Avery Johnson inhereted a good team that had been knocking on the door for a while. He got them over the edge,I just dont think he will be able to do the same things against Miami that he did to the Spurs and Suns.He will have to choose between defense or offense on every sub because of the fragility of Van Horn and the ineptness of Diop offensivly.

The Mavs should win one at home before going to SOBE. Then Miami will win three in a row.

Re: go heat!

I havent seen enough games to make any strong predictions either. But from what I have read, the Mavs have stepped up the defense. Obviously they arent playing as intensively on the defensive end as teams on the East...but I have read that it is much improved. And we know they can score points.

I do not know not what to expect from this series. Interested to hear what Cran really has to say. Basketball is a sport of matchups..and these teams have some interesting matchups. However, I really think the key to this series..even more so than other series, is going to be the play of Shaq. He has the most Finals experience of all the players involved. I really expect Shaq to have a monster series. If Shaq plays well, and the supporting cast just does their job...Miami will be in a good position. I expect Miami to win in Six...because I think Dirk will have at least one big game in Dallas to give a win.

Called the Conference Finals the right way, now time to call the NBA Finals on the money...

NBA Finals

(4) Dallas vs. (2) Miami

Prediction: Miami in 6

Jason Terry

DDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMNN !!!!!

As predicted....Miami D was more than Mavs are used to. Dirk and Howard = SHUT DOWN.

Antoine Walker took 19 shots and didn't get it into Shaq

Miami misses fouls shots

Wade abused Howard. JWill cannot stop Terry. Riles should put Shanderson (Shannon Anderson) on Terry.

AJ had his boys in the proper mindset though. Dallas D was better than I thought. However Miami shot under 40% for the game. The adjustment that prevented Wade from driving was nice.

Still Miami gave this game away. Just like Game 5 in Detroit.

Miami in 5.
The turnovers and the missed easy shots will change on both sides.

Remember the NJ series. Miami lost the first one at home then won 4 straight.

Once Miami wins the second game it will be a wrap at home.

Yall are awfully quiet in here. I am in Brasil now so there is no chance watching a basketball game with the World Cup games now...what the hell happened with shaq...5 points...I thought I read the wrong stat line..

This is how I called it before this started.

The only thing I didn't forsee was the doubleteaming of Shaq which caused problems. Once Miami figured this out it was over for the Mavs.

That line choke by Dirk in game 3 will be the series changing sequence.

Miami should have won by thirty had the refs not given Dallas extra points.

Miami will win games 5 and 6 and end this charade.

Attention, Mavs fans: In the NBA Finals ticket package you split with your business partner, here's hoping you didn't draw Games 6 and 7.

The only way the Mavs come back from Miami is on a float.

Map the parade route. Schedule the sick day.

Train the fire hoses on Mark Cuban.

Miami's chances of getting back here?

Good as a Shaq free throw.

Heat news from Miami Herald

More Mavericks

What else are you supposed to think after the Mavs' incredibly easy 99-85 victory Sunday put the locals up 2-0?

Pat Riley knows what we'll say. He's heard the same in virtually each round of the playoffs.

"We were history," he said, chuckling at the media reaction. "I'm sure we're history right now."

Couldn't have said it better, actually.

Certainly Riley said it better than Shaquille O'Neal, who disappeared from this series long before he left American Airlines Center on Sunday without a word.

Never got off the bench in the fourth quarter. Came up with a career playoff-low 5 points on 2 of 5 shooting.

And that after Miami vowed to get him more touches than he had in Game 1.

Even when he got the ball, Shaq didn't exactly help himself. He's now 2-of-16 from the free throw line in the Finals, which pretty much sums up Miami's effort, too.

Correction: On behalf of my colleagues at SportsDay, I'd like to apologize for the half-dozen geniuses who picked the Heat to win the NBA Finals.

Geez. I feel guilty for picking the Mavs to win in six.

In pivotal Game 2, where an angry Shaq figured to wreak havoc after going ignored in the opener and Dwyane Wade was supposed to be close to getting over his cold, the so-called best 1-2 punch in the game was KO'd.

Question: How has the best set of NBA playoffs in memory come to this ugly end?

Answer: At least it ought to be quick. Not sure how merciful.

Think this series is still too early to call? Want to remind of the San Antonio series, when the Mavs went up 3-1 and needed a miracle three-point play from Dirk Nowitzki just to get into overtime in Game 7?

Forget it. San Antonio was a far more worthy opponent. Phoenix, too.

Even Memphis wasn't as grisly as Miami.

In these Finals, only Dallas beats Dallas.

Take Sunday's first half. Nowitzki and Josh Howard were a combined 3-of-10 in the first quarter, a continuation of Game 1's malaise. And their teammates weren't much better.

Shot 33.3 percent for the quarter.

Turned it over six times.

And still led by one.

Not until midway through the second quarter did the Mavs finally take off, specifically on the 3-point shooting of Jerry Stackhouse.

Otherwise, the Mavs' didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Nowitzki had his usual 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Dallas' depth, defense and versatility simply made the Heat look old and slow and confused and about two games short of summer vacation.

Who's going to beat the Mavs now? Not Wade. Not when he's going to have less time to recover between games.

Shaq? Not when he's taking half as many shots as Jason Williams took in the first half.

Antoine Walker had more shots, too, and seemed to think it was a good idea afterward.

Question: Who do you think gets booted first in the Miami Heat version of Survivor, Walker or Williams?

Come to think of it, maybe it wouldn't have mattered if Shaq had the ball any more. Any time the ball went into the post, and the Mavs moved in, Shaq simply passed out of the double team.

Note to the rest of the big, bad East: Do you think now it's a good idea to double Shaq?

"They know who to stay home on," Riley said of the Mavs' defense, "and who to leave open."

Give Avery Johnson credit. He and Del Harris have come up with another great game plan.

But don't forget the Heat's contribution. Riley hasn't.

"We'll obviously have to play a helluva lot better," he said, "than we played here."

And even that won't be good enough. Four games, maybe five, and that's it.

Question: Do they still make ticker tape?
