Gasol and his one handed jumpers against Nitwit and his
20 foot from the basket post-up game.....

The best big man in the whole series was Josh

nets over pacers - 5 games (let's hope it's more competitive than my prediction. i just don't see the pacers' heads in the right place going into the playoffs)

pacers played tough, gotta give 'em credit... even though i don't much care for euros, the pacers were shorthanded without peja stoyakovic (sp?)...

i was off by 1 game... i'll take it...

poor new jersey

just got to thinking about how jason kidd, richard jefferson and jason collins must be having nightmares...

they gotta face shaquille o'neal again, who has booted them out of the playoffs in 2002 and 2005...

heat over bulls - 5 games (i would predict a sweep, but i'm sure shaquille o'neal will be sitting MAJOR minutes on the bench with foul trouble in AT LEAST 1 game)

ok, i was off by 1 game here too... i'll take it... the officials took shaquille o'neal out of games 3 and 4 instead of just 1 game...

ho hum...

EDIT: good riddance andres nocioni (sp?) another starting euro gone! :D

and as a sidenote, check out the sports 'journalists' who are questioning him... does it look as though they ever played sports IN THEIR LIVES?

detroit v. cleveland. FINALLY we get to see if lebron james can rise to the occasion against some GOOD playoffs D. i pick detroit in 5 games...

suns over fakers - 5 games (i'm leaning towards a sweep, but coach jackson might be able to steal the fakers a W at staples)

alright... i got the winner, but off by 2 games...

so here are my worstern conference semi finals predictions:

san antonio speuros over dallas mavericks - 6 games

phoenix suns over los angeles clippers - 6 games (i'm still rooting for the clippers, so i hope i'm wrong) i don't like how the clippers finished the regular season, and i don't like how the clippers seemed to struggle against a weakened opponent in the 1st round...

You don't know how hard I was rooting for Chicago to win
Of course I would RATHER see the Heat play, but we have
almost no chance against them unless Jason Collins actually
physically takes Shaq out by doing something dirty. Or gets
him kidnapped like that movie "Celtic Pride"

I don't think we have much of a chance, although if VC gets
the jump on Wade, we might steal 2 games this time around
instead of our usual sweep against Shaq manned squads

The only big man worst than the pussified 20 foot jump shooter
is the coward who faints when he comes up on a real big man

I detest that quality in our big men, but I'm with the Nets through
thick and thin....so let the "flopfest" begin

I pck Miami in 6...Only because Pat the great will find a way to
blow it twice

Miami over N.J. in 6 games
Detroit over Cleveland in 7 games
San Antonio over Dallas in 6 games
Phoenix over L.A. in 7 games

Thanks to LeBron for ruining my 1st round sweep.

Goin to try to call all the winners for the Seminfinal rounds so here we go...

Eastern Conference

(1) Detroit vs. (4) Cleveland

Prediction: Detroit in 5

(2) Miami vs. (3) New Jersey

Prediction: Miami in 6

Western Conference

(1) San Antonio vs. (4) Dallas

Predicition: Dallas in 6

(2) Phoenix vs. (3) LA Clippers

Prediction: Phoenix in 7

where is the armenian?

i mean damn, the author of the thread doesn't even show up to drop some 2nd round predictions?

somebody better have the RA call his dorm room... after game 7 of the suns v. fakers series, ol boy might've done something drastic... like take a shower or shave his back...

maybe he went to sign up for spanish class in summer school so he can find out what "NO MAS" means...

damn... shaquille o'neal saddled with 5 fouls in game 1... only 29 minutes played... still posted 20 points 10 rebounds... all meaningless, of course, as the heat lost home court to the nets in a game that was NEVER close...

where's the armenian?

i thought his position was that dwyane wade could carry the miami heat without shaquille o'neal...

I would just like to take this time to thank Elton Brand for smacking
the shit outta Sam Cassell...if Sudden Sam was on my squad, I'd look
for a way to inadvertently smack that flopping mutha fukka too

I noticed that Sam didn't miss any more shots after that, lol. He didn't
flop anymore either. Maybe Brand should smack him every game
lol.gif

This series will be a battle between Nash and Cassell to see whose
off hand is better at holding the opponent off......

As for the Nets, John Thomas is my new hero....In less than a month
he's shown more heart than Jason Collins (set shot Willie) and 'Nonads'
Krstic have all season. I suspect he might get a little more PT as this
series goes on. DESPITE being smaller than both them stiffs

Gotta hand it to Pat Riley. He found a way to lose....Starting Antoine
against the Nets?? Has he done his homework?? Walker STINKS
against us (god bless his brick laying ass)

xlibn6.jpg

Not sure of the breakdown in minutes....But I know that during the
important points of the game, Riley had PAYTON in the game....
Again, he gets it wrong. Where was J-Dub?? Doesn't he know that
White Chocolate be getting BUSY whenever he goes against Kidd??

The backcourt should be Wade and Williams for 35+ minutes each....
period. And continue to bring Walker and GP off the bench as a tandem
They work well together and Walker's lack of interior dee doesn't hurt
them as much when he's teamed with Zo

Way to go Pat. Thanks for the victory

Marshall expects Pistons' experience to prevail

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - The Cleveland Cavaliers plan to make a lot of adjustments for Game 2 against Detroit.

FOX Bite

Cavs and Pistons gear up
After the Pistons dismantled the Cavs in Game 1, both teams expect a closer Game 2. Hear from the Pistons' Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace, as well as the Cavs' Larry Hughes and Donyell Marshall.

They better.
After being blown out 113-86 by the Pistons in Game 1 of their second-round series, Cleveland wants to contest more shots aggressively to help them get LeBron James rolling with dunks and layups in transition.

Ultimately, however, Cleveland reserve forward Donyell Marshall expects the postseason-neophyte Cavs to be overcome by the playoff-tested Pistons.

"Detroit has the knowledge from winning a championship two years ago, and going to the championship last year," Marshall said Monday. "I think their knowledge is going to overtake our youth right now."

Game 2 in the best-of-seven series is Tuesday night in suburban Detroit.

The Pistons have had four of the same starters since the 2003 playoffs, and their entire starting lineup is together for the third straight postseason.

From firsthand experience, they know the Cavs will try to alter what they do in the hopes of splitting the series before it shifts to Cleveland.

Detroit also figures that if it plays with effort at both ends of the court, what the Cavs do is irrelevant.

While the Pistons were breezing past Milwaukee in the first round, coach Flip Saunders said they were not playing against the Bucks, they were playing against themselves. Saunders said the same is true versus the Cavs.

"They're going to do some things, but we worry more about ourselves," Saunders said.

Following their wide-open, defense-optional series against Washington, the Cavs knew facing Detroit's swarming defense and balanced offense would be a much different experience.

"You go from playing a contender to playing one of the best teams in the NBA," James said. "It's like night and day."

The Cavs had a tough turnaround before Game 1 - playing about 40 hours after eliminating the Wizards in overtime on the road - in their first second-round game since 1993. Their fatigue likely led to the lopsided game, which allowed James to rest during the fourth quarter after scoring 22 points in the first half and being held scoreless third quarter.

Cleveland coach Mike Brown said he and his assistants analyzed the game for about five hours on Sunday night, and they dissected each of Detroit's 10 shots from beyond the arc in the first half along with nearly every other play in the rout.

"We have to do a better job of challenging shots, even though they hit some tough shots," Brown said. "But we have to do a better job, then hope they don't hit the same shots they did."

Brown expects better defense to lead to fast-break points, but Saunders countered by saying that's easier said than done against the Pistons.

"If we don't turn the ball over and are efficient on offense, they're not going to be able to get into transition," Saunders said.

How to lead a team:

CLEVELAND -- Kobe, this is how you lead a team.

You don't defer to the Bryant-ettes. You don't hide behind "the game plan." You don't enter a witness protection program, take just three second-half shots and score zero field goals in the last 24 minutes of a playoff elimination game.

The Detroit Pistons aren't exactly whimpering, but they are in a little bit of playoff pain. They had a 2-0 series lead and a 10-point advantage midway through the third quarter of Saturday evening's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at The Q. But that was before the anti-Kobe stuck a cocktail toothpick in the Pistons' plans for a sweep.

"He does things that most guys can't do," said the Pistons' Chauncey Billups.

If Bryant didn't see King James cut Detroit's series lead in half, then Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson ought to DHL him the game tape as soon as possible. James wrote a baller's how-to manual against the conference's -- and maybe the league's -- best team.

When the Pistons were up by those double digits, James didn't go into a funk (like Kobe did in Game 7 against the Phoenix Suns). He didn't pout (like Kobe did). He didn't play like he was on sedatives (like Kobe did).

"Honestly, I think this is the best game he's played," said Cavs veteran Donyell Marshall.

LBJ has scored more, thrilled more and dazzled more. But good luck finding a game where James has meant more to the Cavs. He had 21 points, which is nice, but it's still 12 points less than his playoff average and 10 points off his regular-season average. But James also had 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his 10th career triple-double. (And did we mention the four steals and one blocked shot?) He did everything but tape his teammates' ankles.

The King and his Court beat the Pistons 86-77. ABC thought so much of the game that the network skip-passed it to ESPN, from prime time to late-afternoon -- informercial time. Can you blame it? Detroit was up 2-0 and favored by the Vegas smart guys to make it 3-0.

The schedule might have said otherwise, but this was an elimination game. Lose this one and the Cavs could start logging on to Orbitz for their vacation plans. You need to chug Holy Water to come back from an 0-3 series deficit, especially against the heartless Pistons, who have a history of stepping on opponents' throats as if they're cigarette butts.

But James wouldn't let Detroit grind its sneakers into the Cavs. He had only four points at halftime, but he already had five rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a blocked shot. He was playing the kind of defense you see on instructional videos. And nobody on the floor played every second of every minute of the half as James did.

Kobe had 23 points in the first half of Game 7 against the Suns. The Lakers trailed by 15 -- not good, but not insurmountable. But rather than take control, Bryant stuck to some sort of game plan that apparently called for him to keep force-feeding his teammates. At least, that's what Bryant said after the Suns won by 31 and overcame a 3-1 series deficit.

It was a bogus excuse, the work of a great player having an on-court hissy fit. When the Bryant-ettes couldn't deliver, Kobe did nothing to help them. In essence, he gave up.

James didn't know it, but he delivered the perfect cross-country response to Kobe and the Lakers star's lame reasoning about sticking to "the game plan." Game plans change. They evolve. Sometimes they have to be dumped.

James knows this. Kobe doesn't.

"I don't plan what I'm going to do before the game," James said. "I just react to the game. I get doubled, I get a ball up. It's been my motto all year. It's been my motto all my life.

"But I seen some creases in the fourth quarter and I was able to attack it and give ourselves an opportunity to win the ballgame."

James involved his teammates in Game 3. When he was double teamed -- which happened a lot -- he found the open man. Anderson Varejao (think Florida's Joakim Noah) had an unexpected 16 points, thanks in part to James' feeds off screen-and-rolls. Marshall chipped in nine points, including a run-out basket made possible by a James flip pass that somehow covered three-quarters of the court and dropped perfectly into Donyell's hands.

But in the second half, even after missing his first two jumpers ... even after the Pistons were a shot or two from blowing the game wide open ... James remained patient. And when the time was right, he overwhelmed the Pistons.

A jumper. A dunk that made my teeth rattle. A Raisinets-sweet feed to Varejao that put the Cavs ahead 63-62 with 7:22 remaining in the third quarter. A he-didn't-really-do-that-did-he? underhand scoop shot from the baseline. Another feed to Varejao. Another drive past Tayshaun Prince (who just happens to be a second team All-NBA Defensive Team selection) for a lay-in. And another. A stolen pass. A 3-pointer from the wing that stretched Cleveland's lead to seven points with 1:10 left to play. A skip pass to Damon Jones for a trey.

"I had to step up, and it wasn't by scoring," James said. "I didn't have one of my big offensive nights like I can have."

But he had a big night, which is why this series will live for at least five games, maybe longer. Game 4 is Monday evening.

Kobe should watch. And learn.

King James was very good testerday

King James is a beast. Triple double & W in the playoffs against arguably the best D in the league.

i don't know how many of you missed it, but the clippers were down by 19 points with 6:29 to play in Q3...

the clippers didn't fold up their tents on the road and tuck their tails back to l.a. the clippers are only down by 5 with 2:35 to play in Q4...

in Q4, game tied, 30 seconds to play, sam cassell forgot the shot clock and got called for an 8 second violation, giving phoenix the ball back...

after steve nash missed a 3 pt FGA with 9.3 seconds left, sam cassell came down with the game TIED and didn't feed elton brand... instead, sam cassell pulled up and jacked a LAME 3 pt FGA that missed badly...

with the game TIED, how the hell you NOT gonna feed your MVP the ball in the post? yo get a high % FG or a trip to the FT line...

i'm not a fan of cuttino mobley... in 2 minutes of OT, he has a missed FGA and a PF...

somebody SLAP coach dunleavy!

coach dunleavy put in ROOKIE daniel ewing in on the final play of OT...

just like the washington wizards gave away position to lebron james for the game winning bucket, daniel ewing gave up position behind the arc to raja bell in the corner... what happened?

raja bell cans the 3 to tie the game in OT with 1.1 second left...

the game is now in 2OT...

Re: somebody SLAP coach dunleavy!

Sam Cassell is jackin up long range shots when he should be driving into the lane to draw defenders to him...

can't believe they didn't beat the suns in regulation...hopefully they pull it out

Re: somebody SLAP coach dunleavy!

The Suns escaped with a win in Game 5, as the Clippers didn't play smart basketball down the stretch....they got outhustled by a smaller team, and that put back dunk by Marion pretty much summed that up....no one boxed out on the right side of the basket.

Oh well, I guess this series will go 7 games...

Reminiscent of the NBA playoffs for the Houston Rockets
10+ years ago....whenever Houston had it's back to the
wall or really needed the win, Rudy T would bench Cassell
and start Kenny Smith and play him for big minutes

Cassell was the starter (why I still haven't figured it out)
during the second championship year, but Kenny Smith
played the really important minutes (both seasons)

anybody see this?

i saw the replay during the game, and it looked like jason terry punched mike finley in the nuts... not saying i'm 100% sure, but that's what it looked like to me...

so i guess we know why reggie evans didn't get suspended... grabbing a dude's nuts is a fine, but socking a dude's nuts is a suspension...

Mavs to be without key player vs. Spurs
JAIME ARON / Associated Press
Posted: 36 minutes ago

DALLAS (AP) - The Mavericks-Spurs series took another wild turn Thursday, with Dallas guard Jason Terry getting suspended from Game 6 for punching former teammate Michael Finley while chasing a loose ball in the closing seconds of Game 5.

Terry and Finley jostled with 3.4 seconds left in San Antonio's 98-97 victory on Wednesday night. Terry wound up on his back, grasping the ball, but Spurs forward Manu Ginobili got a hand on it, too, to force a jump ball.

While officials were trying to sort out who had possession, Finley was visibly angry and needing to be restrained by teammates. He appeared to be making a fist and telling his teammates that someone had punched him.

Nothing was called at the time. Neither team mentioned it during postgame interviews.

"Unbelievable," Mavs owner Mark Cuban wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "Michael Finley does a pile driver with his hip to Jason's head while he is on the ground. Jason is on his back with Ginobili laying on top of him.

"No question he tried to get Finley off of him and he should be fined for that. But to suspend him is questionable."

Terry missed a 15-foot jumper in the closing seconds, allowing San Antonio to keep alive its title defense.

The Mavericks still lead the series 3-2. They have another chance to advance to the conference finals with Game 6 at home. If the Spurs win, Game 7 would be Monday night in San Antonio.

Terry already had been sharing point-guard duties with Devin Harris since Game 2. Dallas' most likely move would be adding Jerry Stackhouse to the lineup.

Stackhouse and Finley tangled at the end of Game 2, with Stackhouse getting a technical foul.

Finley has been a lightning bolt all series, with his teammates and coaches offended that he's been getting booed in Dallas. Finley spent the previous nine seasons with the Mavericks, making the All-Star team twice and leaving as the fourth-leading scorer in franchise history.

After practice Thursday, Terry was finishing shooting before speaking to reporters when he was called to the locker room by coach Avery Johnson. He didn't return and he wasn't expected to take part in his local radio show scheduled for Thursday night.

While officials were trying to sort out who had possession, Finley was visibly angry and needing to be restrained by teammates

It's about time...dude been sleepwalking all season long
Glad to see he's finally got a fire in his belly. Having a 7 ft
pussy guarding the basket tends to make even the softest
cats seem brave, lol

As for Terry. It's really sad, that the cats with the most heart
of all the Mavs in the starting lineup are the SG and SF. Josh
gets more tough rebounds and blocks than Dirk can imagine

Oh yeah...fuck the playoffs

What makes you think Miami has a legitimate shot to win the championship???
They have struggled in both games against the Bulls. :puke:
I never thought the rebuilt Heat had a shot at this year (they should have stuck with the team they had, maybe add one player), but even I thought they would dismantle the Bulls without breaking a sweat. If they are struggling against the Bulls, the Nets or Pacers are sure to give them a battle as well. And you really think a worn down Heat team is going to beat a fresh Pistons squad? :smh: And where did you get the idea that the Heat could definitely beat the Spurs in a 7 game series? Are you on crack??? If the Heat were to face the Spurs (which I do not see happening at all) the Heat would be sizable underdog! By your own statement above Duncan would negate any advantage Shaq has and vice-versa, do you really think the Heat have better role players???

Well the Heat held up their end of the bargain... Where are the Spurs? Oh thats right, sitting at home on the couch watching.

 @ struggling against the Bulls

 @ the Nets or Pacers will give them a battle.

 @ the Heat being a sizeable Finals underdog.

These dudes don't know the first thing about BBAll.

Trojans Fan gets his info from the Sports Reporters. They haven't known what they have been talking about for years.

The only commentator that I haerd say the Heat would win was Bill Walton. For as much as Walton is ridiculed he does know basketball.

Now those ANALists are saying "What happened to Detroit" ?

They got BURNED by the HEAT.

Fuckin Hubie Brown sounded like an assistant coach for the Pistons. They were down by eleven and he was saying that "Miami needs to be careful here" . They still cant believe they were SOOOOOOOOOOO wrong.

Greg Anthony has lost all credibility as far as I am concerned. Legler doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. Stev A Smith is a sensationalist. Fuck all of them.

More interesting is the fact that while the Lakers were debating if Kobe quit, we see Wade coming out of the locker after taking an IV and dominate the third quarter with an array of difficult shots. His Dfense on Hamilton has gotten no credit. Hamilton has been ineffective the whole series.

They Heat will beat whoever comes out of the West. Neither Dallas or Phionex have sniffed the Dfense played in the East.
