NBA Live seems to be looking good

I'm gonna put it like this, as far as concepts and ideas, EA kills 2k.

As far as development and gameplay 2k kills EA. If somehow they were to get together and let EA handle the ideas and shit, and 2k handle the implementation and development, the game would be one of the greatest sports games ever.

Simulating a franchise in NBA live is a better experience than NBA 2k. I mean, how are you not able to see which teams have caproom? That's bullshit. Also there's no rhyme or reason when it comes to free agent signings. It's too easy to trick the computer and building a team with multiple all stars. Also I've always hated how teams trade for superstars when they already have a superstar at that position.

Ex. You mean to tell me that the Mavs will trade for KG, then start him over Dirk, and only have Dirk come off the bench and play 20 minutes per game? That's stupid. Also they need to give up on 24/7 mode, although the last one was the best version of it.

As far as gameplay, NBA 2k is superior. I'm playing basketball, not iceskating. Also, I don't like run and gun. To the guy who said 2k is bad, it can be a hard game to play if you think you can just run around with no game plan and beat the computer. You have to set plays, pick and choose when to run, etc.

I also like the playerlock feature for 2k. I think it's more fun being able to control one player and run off screens and play without the ball. Playing as all 5 players instantaneously is too much to do and pretty lame IMO.

You can player lock in nba live. Thats the only way I play.

I agree with you about nba live having the ideas and 2k having the presentation. To me its a push when it comes to gameplay. Both of them have their good and bad points. Sometimes live can be a little too run and gun and you can't ever let your d slip on the pg or he will light you up. But like I said since I usually play point I prefer the controls in live since they are more responsive. I also like how you have more plays in the playbook and you can actually see them being executed when you call them. Players stand around a lot in 2k and I don't like how they always go back to the default play after every possession. And like I said the interface is terrible. Its a hassle just to check out your stats at the end of the game. It sounds like live has fixed a lot of issues in their game. If 2k does too its a win win situation for everybody.

Let me first say that NBA Live 2007 was garbage. However in live 2003-2006, if you got used to the controls and play another person who is as equally as good, the game can be quite fun.It's not the realest game in the world, but I like it, and I like what I am seeing from Live 2008. I never got into the whole 2k series, and I thought their games were quite boring.

It begins with the rebuilt AI. The new AI is deadly against those who have zero hoops knowledge. If your idea of a basketball game is constantly driving to the hole, no matter who's handling the rock and who's standing in their way, then you're in for a rude awakening. NBA 2K8 will punish those who make foolish plays. The AI takes advantage of aggressiveness. Dribble too much and the AI will strip you. Drive down the lane every possession and you'll find a big man will start stepping up to take the charge and knock you on your ass.

Play smart hoops and you will be rewarded. The defense properly collapses when Shaq gets the ball in deep. And the AI, now often seen moving without the ball, will likely set Dwyane Wade behind the arc. Pass out of the triple-team and Wade is left wide open. Players such as Wade and Nash, who rarely miss those open shots, aren't going to miss them in 2K8. Think about it. How often have you seen Nash find spacing and drain a wide-open shot? All the time. He's almost automatic. But in most hoops games, soulless mathematics are used to determine an artificial probability of that little orange ball going through the hoop. And too often that ball clanks. I've seen first hand that if Nash pulls up and no one is around him, in 2K8, he's banging that home.

At the same time, the 2K team realized that there are some players who can drive into traffic and will the ball into the hoops. Kobe, KG, Agent Zero. Whether it's pushing through and slamming a dunk over a defender or finding a way to teardrop the ball through the hoop, some players just have a knack for draining clutch shots in traffic. Those players now have a specific rating in NBA 2K8, so that once impossible shots can sometimes be possible. That isn't to say you won't see harsh rejections of even the most dominant players, but no longer is every player treated as equal with a defender's hand in his face.

Things are a little more sophisticated away from the paint as well. Each player now has a rating judging how good they are shooting off the dribble. Kobe may just be one of the very best in this category. How often do we see an awkward jumpshot off a dribble drained by Kobe? NBA 2K8 recognizes there are some players better at setting their feet and shooting and others that have a gift for dropping shots on the move. Again, all of this is meant to better individuate NBA players. You want Tony Parker to play differently than Leandro Barbosa. You want Nash and Dirk to both be highly-skilled but different to control. From the game I played of NBA 2K8, that dream is closer to reality than it has been in a long time for Visual Concepts.


In hopes to add even more realism to its sim franchise, Visual Concepts implemented new footplanting technology. The new animation and physics system requires that every crossover and post move have the necessary footwork to make it real. In the past you could use the Isomotion system to break from a crossover and then instantly hit a spin move. While it looked cool, some of the animations were physically impossible. Now, players must plant their foot to properly push off. It makes some of the moves slower to respond, but it also makes NBA 2K8 feel a touch more grounded than its predecessors. Movement and momentum were a major focus for VC this year and its shows.

NBA Live has blown chunks since Live 1999 and NBA 2k and Visual Conceptd has upped the ante again....... What I have noticed in the past few years is that EA graphically has been stealing concepts that Sega has used in previous games to make their gaming experience better.... MVP had become a direct ripoff of WSB 98, and Madden 2008 looks like fuckin NFL 2k5 ....... I still buy EA games but it is getting ridiculous the amount of graphical plagerism going on

The icon looks like that because they're focusing on certain players during the replays.That is the 07 version I had that version and promptly deleted that shit off my computer it was buggy as hell just like the vids show. How about moves? Man Kobe Bryant shoots the same as Yao Ming on Live. On 2k everybody has their OWN shot like they do in real life. Im coming down the court shooting damn near half court 3's with Kobe on 4 possesions in a row and hitting them all net......on Superstar.

Live on the pc was a port of the current gen systems so there weren't any signature shots in the game. All that other stuff you pointed out you could control on live too except for which hand you want to block with. I didn't know you could do that in 2k7 thats pretty sick.
