Well Salaam was signed to def jam as an artist first. But he didnt fit the "mold" of what they wanted at the time. He signed an A&D deal, which basically says "We aint gonna put your shit out, we think you gotta develop a bit more. HOWEVER anything you do make belongs to us, and in the event its actually hot, we can choose to give it to other artists that we actually WILL put out. Keith Murray could rhyme but they felt he wasnt coherent enough, just rhymes all over the place...Basically...Keith Murrays first album (Which he NEVER got close to lyrically again) was REALLY Salaams "A&D" album.....
I dont know but on my first intership one of dudes close friends told me that. In fact Salaam made an open letter to the industry about that shit on SOHH about 7 years ago.
