It's that time to change my braids....I don't like relaxers or chemicals in my hair...I keep my hair braided because I like the look...But..I really havent taken care of my braids as I should have this time...Ok...I need advice from those who have had sew in's...Also feel free to post pic's of looks I should try...
My natural hair is shoulder length, but I not about to get up every morning to do my hair...
HELP!

Awwww come on Onyx ... what makes you think doing your own natural hair every morning is that hard?

I literally wake up, put in moisturizer and keep it movin'

It does take me about 1-1 1/2 hours when I wash it but after that it's smooth sailing til the next wash (I wash my hair maybe 2 times a week TOPS depending)

How are you wearing your hair? Curly??

Thank you but honestly I never thought my hair would look like this either ... I started growing it out natural about 12 years ago ... the first about 5-6 years was hell ... I was just trying to figure out what to do with it and trying diff things and I got clowned by pretty much by everybody ... after awhile I figured out what products work best, how to sleep on it etc...then I was good to go and now it's just about maintaining it ... I take really good care of my hair I'm talkin' conditioner, moisturizer everyday etc ... believe it or not I use a moistuirizer right now that is meant for weaves but it works really good

I'm in the process of growing out mine, and I have a girlfriend who is growing out hers, but still pressing it, like, almost everyday...I most certainly am NOT growing out my hair to press it all the time, but need help with moisturizers. Do you use Miss Jessie's or what moisturizers do you recommend?

HELP!

You don't need to get up every morning to do your hair :)
Most natural sistas I know do their hair 1or 2X a week unless they are wearing short hair that they wet and go.

Even if you have a different texture than Lonestar you can get a similar look with a good conditioner, and a setting serum. Just braid it or twist it when wet-let it dry overnight and then untwist in the morning. You can set it on rods too. If you tie it loosely at night or sleep on a satin pillowcase it will last all week or at least 4 days with nice definition. My hair gets frizzy so sometimes I rebraid it on that 4th night.

Oyin handmade has really nice products for daily moisture and conditioning,Jo. It's black owned and they have quality ingredients.

www.oyinhandmade.com

I love their shine and define and many people swear by their herbal spritzes. Their bodycare smells yummy.

Miss Jessie's often gets good reviews too.

It is as LS mentioned just finding what works for you. I find less is actually more- if you keep your hair clean and conditioned and dont weight it down with all that grease and stuff you will be pleasantly suprised how easy it is to care for natural hair.

Why do I feel like you gassing me up..Have me thinking about wearing my own hair....:hmm:

When I get home I'll get the exact name of the one I'm using now cuz it's new and I don't remember the name ... surprisingly it's for weaves though ... my hairdresser recommended it to me and it makes me hair feel like silk ... no lie ... I used a really good one in the summer from a company called Salon Finish which also makes the mousse I use ... very good ... but expensive and hard to come by hence why I'm using the new one ... there is also a very good hair serum that I'll get the name for for you ... I've never heard of Miss Jessies but DON'T EVER USE PINK LOTION MOISTURIZER:smh:

Why do I feel like you gassing me up..Have me thinking about wearing my own hair....:hmm:

C/mon OF you know natural hair is the way to go:yes:

Keep spreading that natral hair gospel Izzy lol

c/s Pink oil is very nasty and sticky. I'm not a believer that just because your hair is natural ALL your products have to be too- I think Paul Mitchell has some really nice products too. I've also heard good things about Devacare. This sista has some really nice suggestions for ALL types of black hair- whether its wavy silky or effervescently nappy. www.curlynikki.com

Viva la natural LS.

Oh, please believe I know about that nasty Pink Oil shit from way back when in high school :puke:

That mess is just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG for ALL hair...

Now, I've heard a lot about Miss Jessie's...here is the website...

http://www.missjessies.com/

My sister used to use their products, but it's kinda expensive...but, I've never heard anyone talk bad about the job it does on all hair types...

Alright so the moisturizer I'm using now is called "Weaves Finishing Lotion with Detangler" by some company called "Prestige D'Afrique II" ... like I said I don't have a weave but that stuff is good good good and makes my hair feel like silk

The other 2 I was talking about were "Salon Finish Moisture Creme" and "Smooth n Shine polishing instant repair hair polisher" ... the second one is like a moisturizer/sheen ... those are expensive and hard to find products here in T.O. which sucks cuz they work REALLY good ... worth the money I just can't find them here anymore:(

^^^ :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: ^^^

I'm glad I'm a guy and I don't really have to worry about my hair too much. All I have to do is keep it neat, and I'm good. Nothing like a fresh Caesar or the occasional Bald Head. In addition to that I just need to keep my facial hair in tact. All of this can be done in about 15-20 minutes in the bathroom when I break out the clippers and open "CT's Barbershop"...

That is all I do my hair too. I have been natural almost three years now and it's the easiest method to use and by varying the size of the twists or braids, they will give you different looks. It avoides getting knots and splits as well. Oyin has great products and so does Qhemet Biologics. Or you can simply make your own holding/moisturizer using shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera gel. Miss Jessie's is overpriced and some contain substances that are bad for the hair (mineral oil, paparabens, and such). You can find cheaper products with better benefits than that. Also if you are looking for natural products stay away from those that contain a long list of ingredients that you cannot pronouce and/or have no clue what they are.

I love my hair. I get it pressed usually--especially if I am going out on the weekend. But I don't have to "DO" it every morning... in fact, I mostly finger comb it. A scalp massage every night and light oil and I'm good. When I'm not feeling lazy I will actually braid it down and wrap a scarf around it, but the scarf is always gone by morning time. I would love to be able to wear braids with extensions more often, but they make my hair fall out and that hairline gets pushed back a little bit. If you don't mind having smaller hair, you could just have your own hair braided into different styles

I wear my hair natural.. during the colder months, I get it straightened, wash, roller set and blow dried, that will last me 2 weeks or so ... I like to use Carol's Daughter hair balm to moisturize it. I ran out and have been using optimum oil moisturizer. I hate Pink Oil & Motions moisturizers...

during the summer months, I can wash it and go. I can use a variety of products, some of my favorites are Beyond The Zone (i use white girl products) they have a curl creme that is good & a split end mender & an anti-frizz gel. For mousse I either use Sunsilk mousse for curly hair, frizz ease, or smooth & shine

I have been natural for about a year and girl it is a challenge but I'm getting there. I do my hair about twice a week as of right now. Unlike Lone, I can't do wash and go's right now...haven't figured it out. The biggest thing with natural hair is moisture and cutting down on the shampoo(you can even cut it out altogether if you know how to). Good thick conditioner and a leave in is good. Miss Jessie's is okay but after trying different stuff, its not so great at that price.

Here is what my hair is looking like these days, natural:

You should try to check out naturallycurly.com. That site is great, the forum has saved my hair and stopped me from getting a perm....

Well on naturally curly I just use the Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in/detangler but you don't have to use that stuff(its kinda expensive). I just go to Curltalk on the site and chat on the forum. Believe me it will really help. After incorporating some of there practices and things into my hair, its really different and that was only Jan I started going there and my hair is very different from then, much better.

MZ! So lovely to see you...

So, I decided to cut my hair ultra short, and now wear it in an asymmetrical bob with a tapered cut in the back...very sassy and different for me (I'm more of a classy, plain jane...when it comes to my hair, that is!), but it's growing on me...

Maybe I'll get the urge to post pics...but, then again, I doubt it

JUST ONE TIME!!

Don't listen to me. I'm just a self-hating, black, conservative that happens to have dreads, listens to death metal, dates outside his race *however, current gf is BLACK*, and tends not to like women that look mad while giving oral sex......... I'm sure you wouldn't like/honor my opinion....Right?
