My Elk Hunt - Success

Dope. Congratulations.

I had signed up to take the hunting course in Maryland last month but I couldn’t make it to finish the class each week. I wanted to get my feet wet with that but maybe next time.

Nice to see bros out here on it.

Instead Im going to learn skeet shooting.

Bought a new 10.6 cu ft freezer, and picked up the meat today. Came out to over 200 pounds of organic elk meat.

Wifey is happy as all get out.

The hunting tag was $650. The meat processing was $250, that includes skinning the animal.

Then you have to figure the price of the gun/ammo (which is at a premium now).
Then you have travel expenses and lodging expenses etc...
Thanks for the info ... going to look into it soon.

I know I'm probably in the minority here and will get roasted but I don't see the sport in shooting an animal with a scope mounted high powered rifle. I'm not against guns, just shooting defenseless animals with them.

Living in a remote area and killing an animal for food in one thing, doing so to prove your manliness is another. If you want a steak and have access go to a fuckin' market and buy it. :hmm:

Any contact information would go a long way, just this past season was my first daer hunt. Loved it and hooked on it.
I contacted these guys (https://nationalbrotherhoodofhunters.org/ ), Bro. I speak with one of their contacts here in Cali on the regular.

They are made up of Black men who love to hunt, and they don't mind sharing their knowledge. The guy I talk with has goat, wild boar, and pheasant in his freezer. So, we're going to hook up next week, and I'm going to get some goat and pheasant in exchange for some of my elk.

I told myself, that I'll only kill what I'd eat. So I'm not out there killing bears (unless one attacks me) etc...

We have become way too civil now. Black men used to farm and hunt just like other races. Now, we can't bust a grape. If civilization goes to pot, and the only way for you to feed your family is for to to go out there in the woods and get it yourself, could you?

If you can't, your ass had better learn. If someone gave you a animal to feed your family, could you cut up? could you gut it?

It's fine if you want to rely on the supermarket, that's your prerogative. But, I want to be able to hunt, kill, and process for myself. The meat tastes better when you know what you've been through to get it.

I was raised in an area about as rural as you can get. My father taught me how to kill and gut chickens, hogs and deer so I am no stranger to harvesting animals. But that was then and now is now and I don't have slaughter animals to eat. Like I said if that is the only way to feed yourself and your family I have no problem with it. But you know as well as I do that many hunters today are not killing animals for sustenance, they do it for sport and I'm not with that.

Perfect example in Donald Trump Jr. proudly posing with animals he shot from a safe distance. Think he was doing that for food or to show how much of a man he is? Unfortunately there are many so called "sportsmen" like him who have no regard for nature or the animal kingdom and they should not be celebrated for engaging in senseless slaughter imo.

I agree with what you're saying.

But, I can only speak for me. I'm hunting to eat... I'm not going to kill because I'm a blood thirsty MoFo like some of these sportsters.

I feel you though...

You think the steaks in the market were generously donated by the cow? Like a Goodwill for backs and asscheeks the cows no longer need?

Thanks! Appreciate your open-mindedness.

But you unloaded on that man with your personal opinions on trophy hunting when he gave you clear evidence that wasn't his intent at all.

I'm sorry but that is a baseless accusation. Please show where my comments were specifically aimed and a personal attack on the individual you refer to as "that man".

Elk backstrap, some SPG, cast iron skillet, open hardwood flame... Bruhhhhh you will stab your next of kin if they try to eat from your plate!

My wife has this old cast iron skillet that she inherited from her mom.

She grated some potatoes and made a bed of hash browns. Then, she cooked two elk steaks in that thing, with a little salt, pepper, garlic, and butter. That along with a cup of coffee.

Bruh... I don't even know what to tell y'all.

Gun vs Elk,

Where Is the challenge?

Perpetual Imbecilic Man at Play...aka PIMP
Imbecilic Man at Play? Explain how feeding your family with natural organic game that you caught yourself is imbecilic?

I would think that it would make more sense to learn how to feed your family natural game, than to feed them food that is full of unnatural hormones and god knows what else.

I think feeding your family natural food is being a conscious and responsible head of household.

First time I ever went hunting, was when I was working at my first job out of college.
Went hunting with some CAC salesmen that we just did business with.
Took me on a PJ to Sonora, TX to go Turkey hunting.
Sat in a blind for 6 hrs waiting for something to pop off.
I felt really bad when I got my first kill.
Didn't really have the stomach for it.
I eventually got over it, but that first kill was tough for me.
A deer was in my front yard with a broken back. It must of got hit by a car. I went out and shot it with my pistol. It kinda messed me up too.

How many pounds of meat you get from that 700 lb elk, after processing?

*EDIT: Nevermind, I kept scrolling
