Mr. Mixx did the track, and nobody wanted to do anything with it. So, I listened for about a minute or so, and grabbed a pen and pad. 45 minutes later, we had a song. It wasn't even meant for me, but the person (I don't remember who) was intimidated by the track. You have to remember, artists on Luke's labels were party rappers, and before Poison Clan, Trick, etc. I was the only real lyricist he had, and this track spoke to me, so I took it.

Questions: This about writing...so you heard the beat and just wrote. What do think about rappers today who claim to NEVER write anything down?

Or rappers who can rite an entire song in like 5-10 minutes?

Did you edit while you were rhyming?

How many takes did you need to lock it down?

Did you consciously think about changing your flow or delivery while writing?

I hated "I'm That Type of Nigga". Sadly, it's my most popular song.:smh::lol::lol:

that was THE song!!!

Question: Did LL ever step to you?

What? you crazy. That was my shit :dance::dance:

First, I was a HUGE LL fan. Secondly, it started off as a joke. "I'm That Type of Guy" was on the radio, and Luke said, "Somebody should answer that and say 'I'm That Type of Nigga'!" I said "They could say something like:..." and started freestyling. The next day, Mixx was like, "Yo, Tony. I got the beat for the answer song.", and I was like :smh:

When you hear a track for the first time, you have to write something down. As for rappers that go into the booth without writing, I've seen it. MC Shy D NEVER went into the booth with a pad. As for editing, when you're laying stuff down, better rhymes pop into your head, and you have to put them in. If you don't, you will not sleep well that night, because it will bother you! I took 3 takes, because I came up with 3 or 4 better lines. In fact, I still have the pad I wrote this album on. As for my flow, I was HEAVILY influenced by NY hip hop.
