Moving Out Of State...

DC is relatively expensive to live in if you live close to the city, but other cities near there are nice, like Silver Springs,MD (or so I've heard! lol)

I <3 Jersey for the fact that is a nice place to live, you can go to Philly or NYC anyday and have a ball. There are beaches, and can be culturally diverse depending on where you live. But, unless you live in south Jersey it can be a bit pricey. I'm about to move and we're looking @ 1350(rent) for a 2bedroom (it does have a washer/dryer included though). My last apartment was 1225 for a 2bedroom.

My friend in south jersey was paying like 1k for a similar 2bedroom ...

If you go in the "hood" areas you might get cheaper, but yeah.. don't do that lol

I didn't know you was a Jersey gal?...lmao
We got to get up...PM me sometime...lol

Yeah, the kids are important. You mentioned being able to move anywhere for your job, so that's great. I think you should keep sending resumes out and making contact with people in the places you are looking. But, since finding a job is not a major concern, maybe you should look more into the network you will have in your new city. Find the best school system and resources for the kids and focus on them and possibly re-connecting with family and/or friends if you move somewhere around them...

I have to c/s with this....

Try to do as much homework as possible before the move. It's important to see the income level vs. bill pay level (meaning earnings vs cost of living). Environment is a very important part because you want your children growing in an environment that will not stop they're growth (meaning education wise, street wise, and legally), access to social activities is also important due to your personality and will also assist with your children's personality (things that will keep them out of trouble).

south jersey is not cheap i guess it all comes down to what you are expecting in your new place. As far as buying in jersey property taxes are outrageous and probably going higher before they go lower.

To everyone thanks for the info! I plan to make this happen at the end of January and your advice is very helpful! Thank you!

Lone-I was like....Dang:eek:
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thanks for giving him another reason to hate black women ONYX!!!:lol::lol: so soft :smh:

Good luck Onyx

Well I've only lived in two places.

Savannah is way overpriced and the public schools are no good. Private schools are the way to go.

Atlanta and its areas are ok depending on what you do and what you want your children to get into. I'll explain that later.

Good luck with the search though...

Hey Mel I thought long and hard about ATL, but I decided against it. Not the place for me.
I am pretty sure of my decision but will discuss it w/ my fam who came to see me today.

Just do what work for you.

Some parts getting bad round here but depending on where you live and work, it's gravy.

Especially if you trying to buy a house

Yep I am in the midwest. Indiana.
I want to go South, East or stay in the Midwest. But definitely out of Indiana. What about DC?

end of thread.

as nice as north carolina is don't come down here without a job, you will be crying if you do....

So true...

I've worked with far too many families who didn't have formal education (and some who even DID have formal education) who moved down here without a job, and found themselves just STUCK! :smh:

I think the public school systems in North Carolina are good, depending on the county you are in, BUT there is still lots of old money and "conservative" views running rampant through NC...

Nobody ever mentions this state but, DELAWARE is pretty nice. You're close to Philly, DC and Baltimore and it has the highest black population of any northern state % terms. Schools are good and finding a job is easy. You can even work in Maryland or Pennsylvania and live in Delaware.
