DC Entertainment Boss Explains Why They Keep Movies And TV Separate

Fans of DC Entertainment and its characters have wondered why the company seems intent on keeping its movie and various TV universes separated, especially when Marvel has had so much success with the “it’s all connected” approach.

Speaking to Variety at an industry summit, DC head Diane Nelson explained that they keep these series and universes separate to allow for the greatest possible amount of creative freedom for the talents involved in making them, pointing out that the strategy has allowed for shows like Gotham and Supergirl to have completely different tones.

“We’re so talent driven,” Nelson said, adding that focusing on keeping everything in a single continuity “could end up handcuffing our creators into trying to work with the same storyline or force them to hold back characters or introduce certain characters. Ultimately it hinders the ability for someone like (showrunner) Bruno Heller to come in and create Gotham.”

While Nelson admits that the shared universe approach “has worked beautifully” for Marvel, it did not make sense for DC.

Get the fuck outta here....

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I really liked "BvS". Though my main issue with it was Superman's demeanor. Instead of being Batman's opposite, he was psychologically no different.

WB needs to understand the legacy of DC's characters. And each of their traits. Not every character is Batman.

Dini and Timm really need to take that film division over.
You were ok with Joker Lex channeling his inner Kat Williams?

Because the cost
Expectations
Competition

The last two avengers movies grossed 1billion+ And cap is expecting at least 1.5

So DC first collective super hero movie was supposed to hit a billion. Then they used two of the biggest comic book characters ever and couldn't get right because the movie was shitty.
Shitty movie reviews will fuck any hype for future movies and/or franchises in the DC universe.

Initially...NOPE!
But what he later was a nice chilling path. Businessman Luthor had become way overused. So the take from Eisenberg was annoying, but interesting.

Business man Lex is who Lex is. That shit in BvS was an abomination.

Part of the Dan Jurgens' era of Superman included a younger Businessman / Scientist Lex Luthor. That was the late 80s / early 90s. I don't recall how the youthful Luthor came to be. But Eisenberg's portrayal was a bit in line with that. Though Jurgens' Luthor wasn't that annoying.

Hell.
I was just happy to see Wonder Woman on the big screen. Both Gadot and Affleck at least silenced most of the early haters.

He reminded me of an A.D.D. millenial zuckerberg wannbe type. Not a classic Lex character, but a newer more modern version of the character. Which was done in a fashion similar to how "Supes the Alien god/Mommas Boy's" image was kinda altered by Snyder.

Yes I would have wanted to see classic Lex....but it was what it was.

They hired a gay mexican flash. smh! It is a wrap for them.

What?

Wow. I never realized TDKR outperformed TDK.

I actually liked BvS, but I don't understand WB handed the reigns to the Justice League to Zack Snyder after the mixed reaction to Man of Steel.

Has this guy ever made a good movie? I can't believe they handed their resurrection to him. A catastrophe

We don't have a problem, but the person that broke down all that x-men shit and how cyclops handled shit seems to me to be at odds with liking this movie. And I wouldn't take any young children to see this depressing as "Superman" movie. Whoever was in this movie wasn't Bruce or Clark help me Martha.
I liked it. My kids had fun. And they liked it.

I would of disagreed with this before the BVS movie but, after seeing it I totally agree.
Kevin Smith said he suggested that to WB already and they told him they do not mix television and movie talent. :smh:
shit i said it here and got the same response
Get the fuck outta here....

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
they still live in the stone age. but to be fair a lot of people agreed with them. i remember few years ago i said they should use the tv shows to get in. and people here were saying thats impossible bla bla.

Allow me to paraphrase a line from a review of Civil War: "At this point, DC should just outsource their movies to Marvel so they will get done correctly."

:frozen:

Because avengers captain America Hulk Thor ant man Iron man Daredevil agent carter Jessica Jones guardians and agents of shield have done such a horrible job and just keep confusing the auduence?

Somebody fire this fool.

Read the Funny Justice League Scene That Introduces The Flash

Will Ezra Miller's The Flash be the big breakout when Justice Leaguecomes to theaters next November? During our set visit, his eager superhero was a constant delight, bringing sorely needed humor to a franchise that hit its grim nadir with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Director Zack Snyder insisted to us that Justice League would be a lighter affair, and to help prove his point, he played an already-edited scene where Bruce Wayne tries to entice Barry Allen to join his (titular) group. Though it's more than a little reminiscent of the Captain America: Civil War sequence where Tony Stark recruits Peter Parker, it's still more fun than anything we've seen in this franchise so far, due in part to Miller's welcome improvising and cheery outlook.

Snyder showed the scene to us twice, and I hastened to scribble down all the dialogue. Below, I've reconstituted it in script format as best as I could, filling in scene descriptions and actions on my own. (In other words, these are not official screenplay pages.) Still, even without seeing it onscreen, reading the scene should give you a sense of the revised tone that Snyder and his cohorts are promising for Justice League.

Worth repeating: These are not actual pages from the Justice Leaguescreenplay. They're re-creations based on notes taken on set.

this muthafuka...

“I don’t want to ruin it or anything, but you’ve got to have Superman,”Justice League and Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder said before introducing Superman actor Henry Cavill during the Justice League panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Superman is indeed alive, and he will be returning for Justice League.

Superman appeared to die at the end of Batman v Superman, with Wonder Woman and Batman attending his funeral. However, many critics and fans speculated that Superman didn’t actually die and would return for a Justice League film.

Cavill joined the stage with the rest of the cast—Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg). The reveal was made before the premiere of the first Justice League footage.

Justice League hits theaters Nov. 17, 2017.

Fuck Snyder

I really don't understand what they doing.
This is just...

Frustrating.

But hey they making money.

F*ck the fans and critics I guess.

So what do I know?

Superman shouldn't have died in the first place. Did waaaaay too much too soon.

Doomsday should have come later in a battle where Superman was separated from the league so you could have a scene show a race against time to confront him. Sure it happened in MoS when Zod was about to take Martha Kent to worship service, but by then that would have been scrubbed out of our memory by a few movies.

Multiverse !!!!
Using the multiverse could easily fix all of that AND allowed them to do crossovers. They've already planted the seed with TV Flash showing up on Supergirl.
They could even leave Superman dead and bring in a different universe's Superman who is closer to the Superman that people are used to and wanted in MoS and BvS.
I wouldn't even be mad if they used that as a excused to move Cavill out. Or at least let him drastically change up how he is playing Supes.

Afterthoughts?
Suicide Squad had the biggest opening ever in August, had no competition, and it was one of the worst spring summer movie years; and yet it still finished like 16 mill domestically behind Guardians and like 50 mill world wide behind them..that should tell you all you need to know about DC and Warners and its dumb ass movies.......

LOL

Just cause you made clout in the theatre by word of mouth and anticipation don't mean you doing something big. I know the DC game. But considering when VA made that statement I was wondering if he felt different...but then again there are about three of these threads...I forget...

Still made around 750 worldwide and wasn't even released in China which is a huge market. It was a step in the right direction. I blame WB for their meddling more than anyone, DC should find a way to break away from WB
