Jurassic World: Rebirth

PRAISE: 3 years after the last Dinosaur adventure under the Jurassic banner this movie is about another age of dinosaurs coming to an end and it turns out there is another secret dino site which may hold a cure for all sorts of diseases. I did buy into some of the melodrama connected to the characters which was established to see why they would care about certain things down the line in the movie. Enough is done to get me to care about a few of the characters. I appreciated the movie for having moments that went for capturing the wonder from the first Jurassic Park movie. There's still fun to be had as various dinosaurs make appearances interacting with, stalking and chomping down on humans. Praise to everyone behind the CGI which looks beautifully flawless at times. Director Gareth Edward's gets some things right as scenes are adequately staged to thrill the audience. I liked the nods to other dinosaur films and Jurassic Park movies of the past.

PROBLEMS: So many things were just to basic and been there and done that. Always a clumsy and careless character that should have really known better. Sinister, greedy, noble, caring and heartless cookie cutter characters . Some things didn't add up about the dinosaurs and the information that should be provided to the world over and over again or at least some kind of perimeter set up for the hard headed. There were so many ultra predictable moments in the movie, so spelled out to the last frames of the movie.

Green Book
2018

6/10

I watched this last night with my sons at home on Paramount+.

The premise of the film is around racism in 1963 pre-Civil Rights Bill.

With the racism stuff, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before or unaware of. The film is more suited for a non-Black audience or if you are watching with your children as a learning experience. The film is mainly made as a Comedy-Drama to not make a White audience uncomfortable.

Viggo and Mahershala have a good on-screen chemistry between them that makes their roles more believable. It’s clear watching the film they got along off camera.

It’s based on actual events/people. There is a brief biography on the 2 main characters just before the credits roll.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, the Black character is a closeted gay man. Nothing graphic is shown.

Overall, It’s an interesting film.

Synopsis

Dr Don Shirley is a world-class African-American pianist, who is about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighbourhood in the Bronx. Despite their differences, the two men soon develop an unexpected bond while confronting racism and danger in an era of segregation.

Dredd
2012

7/10

I watched this last on MAX at home with my sons. I went into it thinking I had already seen it and that they did not see it. But when I started watching it, I had no memory of ever watching this flick. I did a search on the forum and nothing came up with me verifying that I had seen it.

The film goes on that list of “I Thought I Saw It, But Obviously Didn’t”.

I had seen the Sylvester Stallone version. It was ok but it didn’t hold up too this film. I went into this not expecting much and it highly impressed me.

I had read some of the books back in the 80s and enjoyed them. This flick was close to those books from what I remembered. Keith Urban did a good job with the character showing him unemotional with no empathy for anyone.

Violence thru-out the film was surprisingly graphic and kept with the tone of the comics. The story and action flowed nicely from the start to the end.

I looked into it, there were plans to continue more films, but for whatever reasons no sequels have been green lighted. The way this film was made it definitely could have made a good trilogy.

This film did not disappoint, I could rewatch it again in the near future for sure.

Synopsis

The film follows Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) as he partners with rookie Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) to investigate a crime in a dangerous, high-rise slum controlled by a ruthless drug lord, Ma-Ma (Lena Headey).

Jurassic World Rebirth

It was ok I guess :dunno:

Silly dialogue and dumb decisions from people in a predictable unoriginal movie that's a remix of what we've already seen before. Maybe kids will like it better. Because some of the conversation seemed like it was written by AI, and it was so pointless and like it wasn't written for adults. I'm like why are they stopping this movie for this long dumb conversation. Is this supposed to be character development? Make us care about them beyond wanting them to be dino food? And I hate the trope of throwing a dumb character in for random comedy.

If you want to see dinosaurs on the big screen, it's really the only reason to see it at the movies. This is the seventh movie, and I'm pretty over it now. Me, I'd like to see a R rated Jurassic franchise where we get more than a handful of people eaten.

Bring Her Back

I had to sit with this, before giving my thoughts, because a part of me hated this movie.

Disturbingly entertaining movie.

I'm not a look away person, but this had me looking away from several scenes. If horror and gore isn't your thing, this ain't for you, because this goes way beyond the Terrifier type of horror.

The movie seems complex, but it's rather simple once you get it.

I'll probably never watch this movie again, but I see why a lot of people like it. After Talk To Me and this, I'm interested in what the brothers do next.

Smile 2
2024

7.5/10

I watched this flick this morning at home on Paramount+.

The film takes place about a week after the events of the first film.

The premiise is the same as the first with the Entity fucking with a new victim. The victim is a popular pop-star similar to “Lady Gaga”. With the lead character, the film focuses on mental health, the pressures of fame, and the psychological toll of trauma that the Entity feeds onto.

Insight is given on how the Entity operates.

This film goes further depicting the effects of the Entity on the victim from what is shown in the first film, which actually makes this film better. It’s also obvious with both films that the director was heavily influenced by legendary director Stanley Kubrick with cinematography and the use of music to increase suspense.

The film gave a quick visual of what the Entity looks like.

With how the film ends, it looks like “Smile 3” is going to take the franchise to another level.

Looking forward to “Smile 3”.

Synopsis

Skye Riley, a global pop sensation, is haunted by a terrifying entity as she embarks on a new world tour. The entity latches onto her after she witnesses a death, and she begins to experience a series of disturbing events. She must confront her dark past and the entity's influence to regain control of her life.

Has anyone seen Surviving Ohio State? I'm watching it now. Dr. Strauss and Jim Jordan were supreme pieces of shit!!! Not only that, it was an open secret among the coaches.

I been trying to find a good time to focus.

I knew it was going to be SERIOUS because I noticed all the sports networks and websites have been suspiciously quiet about this docu series even dYouTube.

No ESPN no Fox no Twitter no youtube.

Very very odd.

Especially during a relatively quiet summer.

Guns Up

PRAISE: By the time this movie was coming to a close it truly felt like I just watched new life was breathed into a couple of been there done that plots I've seen over the years. Kevin James is Ray Hayes a cop and family man with a plan. Do this and that and some of it includes some sinister deeds but at least he's out from under. Even though his character is infused with a big sense of humor i like when James takes on more dramatic roles. It was a pleasure to watch him work with Christina Ricci as his wife Alice. I'm so used to watching her on Yellowjackets it was refreshing and fun to see her in this new role. The multiple characters in the movie are very likeable even when i didn't quite trust some of them but the actors including Melissa Leo,Luis Guzmán,Leo Easton Kelly, Keana Marie and Francis Cronin. I'm glad they waited until the last 30 minutes to reveal a twist. Usually movies that have gone down similar paths show their hands in the first 20 minutes but this one took its time dropping one hint that something was coming. This is a quick, funny, bloody, action romp and will definitely go down as one of my guilty pleasure movies of 2025.

PROBLEMS: One character should have been used more. I felt it was odd that the character vanished for a long time.A few predictable paths and some overly silly moments.

I've been curious about this one. I might watch it today.

Superman 2025

PRAISE: When the movie started it felt like i was entering a chapter in a comic book series well into it's story and it was apparent this was going to be a new take on Superman. Leaning into themes of how quickly or long before the world turns on Superman and a hero becomes an enemy, menace or someone the world should fear the movie does a great job displaying that theme. David Corenswet as Superman / Clark Kent / Kal-El steps into the red boots and does a great job . He has key scenes in which his sincerity, love for human beings....and animals is on full display. But also his frustrations when dealing with other hero's,how the world views some of his actions, and his relationship with Lois Lane. As Lois Lane
Rachel Brosnahan does a great job too. Not backing down from Superman / Clark Kent because she loves him. There are nice nods to the characters personality that i've seen in comics and various movies and TV shows over the years. There is good argumentative banter between her and Superman / Clark Kent but also displays of affection that hit all the right notes of the two characters. As Lex Luthor Nicholas Hoult also does quite well. He's still the genius and psychopath i've come to know over the years who is obsessed with blacklisting Superman but in this movie theres this additional Wall Street broker
vibe but instead of screaming Always Be Closing he's screaming Always be Punching !! Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific is a standout as he laser focuses on the mission at hand. Sometimes the banter between him and the rest of The Justice Gang Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion, that bowl cut looks even odder on the big screen), and Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and it was fun to see their powers on display. Krypto has some good moments as well he may be a bit mischievous but he's always there for Superman as either a protector or caring pet. I never forgot i was watching a James Gunn movie. There's the humor and his love for comic book characters is fully on display. I did laugh at some of the situations and what happens visually in various moments. I liked how Gunn explained something about Superman that has been pondered over for many years,i couldnt help but say hey that was pretty good. As a fan of Superman of course Gunn is going to give Superman some epic action packed moments. I liked the darker tones that were added to the Superman legend. I definitely felt like i was watching live action episodes of the fairly new animated series My Adventures with Superman.

PROBLEMS: The movie actually drags a bit in the middle and i kept saying wow is the movie really going to stay in this mode for this amount of time? Some characters are underused and then some. It's as if the movie is saying oh yeah let's give them something to do in the last 30 minutes.Or lets make pay these characters a visit for a few minutes because i think we have to. Some of the CGI is off at times with far to many close ups. Some of the sillier moments accompanied with wacky visuals and silly songs definitely didnt work for me. A few predictable turns and one that will really standout to fans who know about DC comics multiple universes and the characters within them.I know they were trying to give individual characters stand out moments but I would have preferred more great banter between the characters.

The 1978 Superman movie is still my favorite Superman movie but i enjoyed this new take on Superman

I've never seen this movie, but I remember when it came out I was working parttime in an office surrounded by CaCs. Just over hearing their conversations drove me crazy.

-"Did you know that hotels and restaurants used to be racist?"
-"OMG, girl no. I had no idea how hard it was black people 'back then'.

It will NEVER cease to amaze me how much American CaCs don't know about basic American history. I have countless family members who had to get a green card and I'm telling 6/10 red-blooded/Fox News loving/red Trump hat wearing CaCs could not pass that test!

If those people had to pass that test to stay here, most would fucking fail with flying colors

Right off the bat, thank you BGOL cinema for saving me the time, trouble, & money. I'm not sure WTF is DC thinking or if if I'm just out of touch with the masses. I didn't much care for Guardians of the DCU.

I'm really getting tired of CGI battles filled with nothing that are just an excuse for the director to make some cool ass music videos with their favorite childhood heroes.

That was basically the entire plot of Deadpool v Wolverine and the same silly shit is happening here. James Gunn should go take his Ritalin and turn his damn playlist off.

On top of being a music video, every villian battle is completely pointless. One how the fuck did Lex pull that off experiment after another that you never buy a real threat. Citizens going about their daily lives as Superman wrestles a cotdamn Kaiju right down the street.

Then there's a CGI split in the fabric of space/time that the movie forgets about whenever it's convenient. Why do directors and studios feel the need to keep stacking the deck with multiple threats that are all growing outta control, and can't be stopped, and oh no the countdown says 5 minutes. Well too bad asshole cause you only have 2 minutes before the bomb explodes and kills the president.

How many things does the hero have to deal with in 2 hours? How about you just write one good villian. *see Dark Knight for reference*

Superman

I liked, it but didn't love it.

It was good performances inside of an iffy script. Superman and Lois impressed me.

I both liked and hated Mr Terrific. Why did he talk like that? Was that some 1970's comic character? Like it was in Black Dynamite. In fact all of his crew was sort of wack. It was like the rejects. The damn dog seemed like more of a major and developed character than everyone besides Superman.

The surprise guest were cool.

It was a solid start and I'm interested in where the DCU goes.

Had to get that 'just walked out the theater' angry energy out. Had to go smoke a blunt and chill out.
:joint::blush:
Back to Superman. There are some great things in the movie and it is a very crowd pleasing flick.

I love when writers can cleverly write exposition into dialouge in a way that it comes across natural and this movie is excellent at that. There is a short scene early in the movie with Clark & Lois where they cover A LOT of ground with a few short lines of dialouge. I really loved Lois and wish she had more to do in the movie.

There are many crowd pleasing moments in this movies. I however stand on everything I said in my previous post. Those movie theater crowd pleasing moments don't play at home.
i.e. Blade and friends slowly walking into frame in slow motion one by one for 60 seconds.

In a theater, people who hated Elektra but are are too blinded by nostalgia are cheering so those 60 seconds don't seem that long. At home by yourself, you're fighting off sleep wondering why this scene is taking so long :dunno:

This movie is plagued with moments like that. Scenes that were funny or awesome in a theater when you're caught up in that theater experience. But on your own on that 2nd viewing, you're going see this movie was on Pacific Rim 2 levels of stupid.
