You think the movie is going to go one way, and be some sort of pointless movie, and then it throws you for a loop and goes left. Entertaining and funny dialogue. One of the best movies I've seen this year.

Not sure if it's good or bad, but it's entertaining. It's like three movies in one.

Good to me, especially the last 40 minutes.

I was watching it wondering if I fell asleep things changed so quick

I've had that before with TV shows and movies. Being tired and drifting off and then coming to thinking - "I think I may have missed 10 - 30 minutes ..." and rewinding trying to figure out where I left off.

Twilight for a cowboy

PRAISE : Its still fun to watch Clint Eastwood be gruff, dole out insults, one liners and poetic lines about life in this story about a onetime rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder, in 1978, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man's young son home and away from his alcoholic mom.
Eastwood still has a great eye for beauty, western culture and the cowboy way.
He and Eduardo Minett as Rafael "Rafo" Polkplay well together.
Rafo is street smart with a good sense of humor but there is a sadness to him and all of the aforementioned make him a likeable character.
There are a couple of nice touches Eastwood and writers Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash
add to Mike Milo to make him more realistic.
I enjoyed the really beautiful and quiet performances in the film particularly from Natalia Traven as Marta Dwight Yoakam once again place a jerk to a T but this time with some heart.

PROBLEMS: The film goes down some clichéd road trip paths. It does slow down some here and there .Definitely not as strong or involving as some of Eastwood's previous films.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

Don't Breathe 2

.....or breathe if you want to

PRAISE : Old man Norman Nordstrom is back and people come by his place pestering him again, wanting something he has. High praise to Stephen Lang for completely throwing himself into the role.
The whole kid in peril factor worked for me. There are some great and creative kills. The violence is dwelling and intense ....so not for those that are faint of the heart.
Also nice jump scares.

PROBLEMS: The motives of a couple of characters was ultra predictable and so was the ending. It felt like the suspense that was so off the charts great in the first movie was sacrificed for more gore and destruction in this sequel.

OLD

Oh those "wonderful" exclusive resorts in entertainment ! !

NO SPOILERS. SPOILER FREE

PRAISE: In my opinion whether good or bad the films of M. Night Shyamalan at least involve the audience and make them ask : What the heck is going on? & How is this possible?
The same can be said of his latest film OLD. The story about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly reducing their entire lives into a single day.
The setups are done quite well and the various characters are wonderfully charming, watchable and a bit uptight.
Shyamalan does his best to make you care about them before things go completely haywire for them.
Some things play out in darkly humorous ways which I really enjoyed.
Some of the story threads reminded me of a couple of my favorite Stephen King stories. I did like how the ending had a good blend to it.

PROBLEMS: I felt the reactions to some completely insane things that were happening were far to laid back. The actors were not at fault but it was the script with its well let's move on to the next thing factor that took away from the aforementioned and I felt the film definitely had enough time to focus on the aforementioned insane moments. There was also plenty of time to do more with the characters. The pacing started to get to me when the film reached its last 30 minutes.

Watched Good Will Hunting the other day. Had meant to get around to it years ago. Enjoyed it.

Good Will Hunting is a 1997 American psychological drama film directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver, and Stellan Skarsgård. Written by Affleck and Damon, the film follows 20-year-old South Boston janitor Will Hunting (Damon), an unrecognized genius who, as part of a deferred prosecution agreement after assaulting a police officer, becomes a patient of a therapist and studies advanced mathematics with a renowned professor. Through his therapy sessions, Will re-evaluates his relationships with his best friend (Affleck), his girlfriend, and himself, facing the significant task of confronting his past and thinking about his future.

The film received positive reviews from critics and grossed over $225 million during its theatrical run against a $10 million budget. At the 70th Academy Awards, it received nominations in nine categories, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won in two: Best Supporting Actor for Williams and Best Original Screenplay for Affleck and Damon.

In 2014, it was ranked at number 53 in The Hollywood Reporter's "100 Favorite Films" list.[4]

FREE FALLING ASLEEP

PRAISE: This story about a non-player character in an open-world video game at times offered a nice mix of multiple stories I've watched over the years about part digital, part real world fantasies and adventures. The always game Ryan Reynolds is on point with his usual flair playing characters like this. There's some cool SFX and if you know something about video games and played them over the years like myself you can definitely relate to what happens in this movie. Some of the jokes worked for me.

PROBLEMS: I got bored about 45 minutes in.Once I figured out the big mystery of the film I found myself being distracted because none of the story threads pulled me in completely. Far to many obnoxious characters and whenever these characters spoke my ears literally began to hurt. Some movies are just not for me. This movie is for people that are into gaming 8 to 24 hours a day,and teenagers. The way things were summed up were clichéd and predictable.

Ok movie, a lot of easter eggs if you are into marvel movies and gaming. The plot is very similar to the Emoji and Lego movie.

Btw Taita Wai Titi is having the best couple years ever. Dude has had his hands in all the biggest movies in the past couple years and the upcoming.

Thanks for the review, JBlaze. Been hearing the hit & miss reviews from fans and critics. Talked to a coworker who saw it - he really liked it - even though he doesn't have a gaming background. I was surprised as he's usually pretty lukewarm with his TV & movie takes.

Sopranos Lite

PRAISE : After watching 6 seasons of the great The Sopranos series on HBO this epilogue to the series has its moments.
It was great to watch some of the situations that were merely mentioned in the series play out in this film.
The cast including: Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Ray Liotta do a good job for the most part. The standouts are Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga
Michael Gandolfini son of the late great James Gandolfini does pretty well he actually made me feel sympathy for the young Tony Soprano in his portrayal. You have this kid who really has no one to turn to for guidance except for one person that reaches out but is also involved in sinister things but because he's the person in your corner you still look up to him. I thought this played out well in the film. Some nice nods to the series.

PROBLEMS:One story thread was so forced I kept saying is this going somewhere? I laughed at the "bonus" part of it and said so what? There's a hollow feel to some of the film. Some character portrayals felt like odd impersonations of actors from the series.
At times certain scenes felt like extended flashbacks never hitting the right notes the writers and Director were hoping to hit.
I have to agree with others that have said this may have worked better as a 4 to 6 part series.

It was mediocre Friday. :smh:

I was disappointed, it was just interesting enough where I finished it and didn't fall asleep, but as someone who watched Sopranos I was disappointed. Tony was a supporting character. That twin shit was dumb as fuck. :smh: The Leslie Odom shit was interesting, because he was black and I was rooting for him, but I was wondering why the fuck was he in the movie taking up time.

This should have been a limited series on HBO Max, instead of some characters I didn't give a fuck about.

It was better than the first, because I could actually hear and understand Venom most of the time without needing subtitles

other than that, it was just ok, slightly above meh, which was the first. Glad it was an hour and a half so it didn't waste more of my time.

Most of the jokes didn't land and the fight scene didn't really make sense, but it was cool visually because I could tell what was happening....and it could have added more background into why Carnage didn't like Venom

I normally see comic book movies at least twice to get more out of it, but I'm good with one viewing of this.

I thought it was cool, but I had a lot of problems with it.

They sort of made a Bond universe, it will be interesting if they have more continuation.

It was probably unnecessarily long. It was well over two hours.

Rami Malek was Rami Malek playing Rami Malek and his motivation and role were so fucking weak.I was annoyed by him.

I liked the ending, even though it was very cliche.

No Time To Die

Welcome back Bond,Farewell Craig

PRAISE : The story set up for this 007 chapter is done so sharply and intensely with a story about James Bond enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica after leaving active service. However, his peace is short-lived as his old CIA friend, Felix Leiter, shows up and asks for help.
Words are said at the top of the film that made me feel dread for Bond and Co. and placed me at the edge of my seat for the entire 2 hour and 43 minute run time
Daniel Craig brings all the right amounts of intensity ,sorrow and heart to his final bow as Bond. Also a wonderful heartfelt performance from Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann , the chemistry between her and Craig is off the charts.
Rami Malek as Lyutsifer Safin makes the most of his time on screen displaying an intense and quiet coldness. Lashana Lynch as Nomi does ok as a new double 0 I would say just the right amount was done with the rivalry between her and 007 that it didn't become annoying.
There are good turns from Ben Whishaw as Q,Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny,Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter,Christoph Waltz as Ernst Stavro Blofeld
and Ralph Fiennes as Gareth Mallory / M.
The action sequences have an intense well choreographed sharpness to them.I enjoyed the questionable morality story thread in the film
Director Cary Joji Fukunaga and writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade do a good job of striking the right emotional chords.
I've always felt the Bond films in which he shows that he actually has a soul worked a lot better for me and this one does so at an extremely high level.

PROBLEMS : There was a character that was supposed to be funny but just turned out to be obnoxious. Even though I knew the climax of the film was leading to a point it still felt a bit drawn out. There were a couple of predictable paths the film takes.Unfortunately the film casted one of those actor's in which i immediately knew what they were up to.

The film makes an ambitious and gutsy move and it's going to be interesting if they take it a step further and how they are going to move forward.

Saw a few movies ...

The Many Saints of Newark - would have worked better as a series, either limited (5 - 10 eps) or full format. Hard to pack in enough character development in 2 hours when the series itself was able to take its time for 6 seasons airing over 8 years.

Cry Macho - Surprised the lead is still upright and mobile. Funny side note - probably the coolest rooster you'll ever see in a movie. Very well trained.

Georgetown - Good performance from Christoph Waltz, as always. He also directed it. Just under 1 hour, 40 mins. Wouldn't have minded if it ran a bit longer - say 10 - 20 mins - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgetown_(film)

The Card Counter

Forgetting the past.....not in the cards !!

PRAISE: Odd but riveting story about William Tell a gambler and former serviceman who sets out to reform a young man seeking revenge on a mutual enemy from their past.
Some meandering moments are uplifted by strong performances by Oscar Isaac,Tiffany Haddish (great legs too) Tyler Sheridan and Willem Dafoe
A good study of redemption and revenge and my love for the Casino atmosphere and gambling made the film even more appealing to me. The way the film let's you slowly into the main characters mind and rituals was mesmerizing. There's great chemistry between the characters and when there's an explosion of violence even off screen it's stunning.

PROBLEMS: The pacing is definitely off at times .Some dwelling moments go on so long I started to laugh even though they were dramatic moments

I don't boot leg black movies. If I download them, I go to the movies and get a ticket then walk out.

Most times I do that with Black movies with poor reviews

Needle in and time stack is not one of those movies. Black director, the same writer as 12 years of slave (he actually wrote this screenplay). You can see the artistic view of the movie

It's trying to accomplish a lot during its time and the premise is quite original

I am enjoying it so far. It's a little slow, so I understand why some people might downgrade it, but maybe it's the writer/creator in me but the premise is amazing

If you can see what it's trying to accomplish, I know you would give it the 8/10 I'm giving it. But I love sappy movies like this. And GOD, an original story for once in a long time

It's the kind of movie that if it was an all-white cast it would get Oscar consideration. I'll buy a ticket for tomorrow

It's a fucking classic. The director also directed The Black Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester with Sean Connery

It is super crazy growing up brilliant what's going up in the hood, I see pieces of me in that movie

Scared to be smart because I wanted to be cool and didn't want to alienate the people around me. I wanted to be liked. I wasn't as good at it as Will Hunting

The struggles I had growing up with an abusive father and the mother who didn't really show me much attention or love oh, I get it.

Kids that go through what I went through are searching for guidance most of them never get. They're searching for love from people who are supposed to love them and they never get it

The art of pushing someone away before they push you away it's something so many of us do whether we realize it or not.

Son of a bitch. Stole my line. Robin Williams ad-lib that line
