Most Americans want Trump pardoned if he’s charged. WTF

If one factors in people being afraid of civil unrest then it does make sense that a slim majority want him pardoned even if that slim majority is made up of people with different motivations

They gave dude every out with those classified papers and he still pushed the issue, almost like he wanted to end up here

Just can't see him ending up in prison because I cant see which prison could hold him

TheHill article (that YahooNews is citing) only mentions the Dems and GOP. The Harvard CAPS-Harris poll takes the average within a small sample of 2,090 registered voters (Dems, GOP, Independents/Other), including folks who are both familiar and unfamiliar with the indictment ("HEARD" vs. "UNHEARD") in the chart below:

If Donald Trump were convicted and sentenced to jail for his handling of classified documents, would you support or oppose a president pardoning him in the interest of national unity?

Column % GOP DEM IND/OTH HEARD NOT HEARD
Support 80% 30% 48% 54% 49% (Average is 52.2%)
Oppose 20% 70% 52% 46% 51% (Average is 47.8%)

yeah no breakdown of how many of each party was polled. the question is also misleading because it ends with the interest of national unity as opposed to should he just be pardoned.

The headline is incomplete it should read “most want him pardoned by firing squad if charged“

I didnt mean hold him in that way...I should have explained myself better...the cops, jailers, COs etc probably all support him....his crazy supporters on the outside and those on the inside...making him martyr-like...basically I see them backing down because locking him up wouldnt be worth the blow back....the system that would lock him up loves him

White people never seem to learn from their political/societal/cultural mistakes.
1/2 of them want to pardon him because they are just like him or want to be like him, the other 1/2 want to pardon him because they are afraid of that first half setting off Civil War 2.0.

You're not wrong. I'm somewhat scared of the latter.

Whatever happens it has to be pursued delicately. Otherwise there's going to be civil war 2.0 whether he's pardoned or not

Which is why it can't just stop with Trump, everyone involved with assisting him must be brought down too. This will be a slow, long drawn out process, but this country cannot repeat the mistakes made with the Confederates after the Civil War and with the Nazis after WW2. The guilty must be punished severely or we are just giving cause for the enemies of this country to do it all over again ... and that includes our enemies within the country and outside the country.
