anyone can help me out here?

yeah dude... 2-3 hours of installation and now this BS.

I've booted from the DVD... ran the startup repair tool, and it said it found no problems.

I don't know if I should do it again... or just do a clean install (which I don't even know how to do from here).

***UPDATE***

yeah, I'm doing a clean install over the Vista partition. I'm sitting here thinking if I have anything real important on this laptop. mostly everything is on my desktop, so its whatevers... but still. damn Microsoft.

update on my situation. after some research... it seems like its a problem on Asus laptops and the recovery data partition. So I went into DOS/CMD_prompt and deleted it manually. Now doing the installation all over again.

Anybody having troubles installing this damn thing? When it gets to expanding files it stalls... sometimes at 1%, sometimes at 14%, and sometimes at 48% and then I have to physically shut the power switch off. I read on the net that it could be the blank media I use to burn the ISO on, it could be the burn speed is too high, or that the drivers for my drives need to be updated. I've tried 3 different brands of media, lowered the burn speed to 4x but it still freezes up at various percentages during "expanding files". I'm sure the drivers for my drives are up to date and I couldn't change them if I wanted to because my HD is wiped clean for this install... any suggestions?

the loading time is veeerrryyyyy slow....

has anyone been having problems after the fact?

i did a clean install again.

2 weeks later it's having problems booting up...

i restart it, it goes into startup repair, does a rollback then works again until i restart the computer.

Copped this a couple of days ago....Thanks for the up. Running a dual boot of Xp Pro Performance(SP3) and this version of Windows 7 and I have to say that I think MS may have done Win 7 right. I have not run into any problems yet and it seems as stable if not more so than XP(did I say that???). I am still going to wait it out before I make the switch over but for gaming it seems to actually run just as good as XP. Couple of screenies. Once again LS thanks for the up and keeping peeps running the good shit. Tried that Alchemist edition and the install went south. This sucker is stable and nice. I also got a legit copy coming for buying a laptop a month ago with the upgrade shit, but imma just use the key on this.

How do I do this?

you are doing a clean install? if so, when you turn your pc on, press f2 (when you see it as an option on your screen), change your boot option to boot from cd. save, and then the pc will restart and boot the windows set up screen.

Which install is better?

Which install is better?

depends, i know black would recommend a clean install. what os are you using now? 32 or 64 bit? which os will you be installing, 32 or 64 bit? if you currently have 32 bit, you need to do a clean install to go to 64 bit. but going from 32bit vista to 32 w7, you can just upgrade (by only inserting the disc and following the directions), which means your apps and stuff wont get deleted. if you are going from any version of xp, a clean install is recommended.

so here are your options:
32 (any os) to 64 - clean install
32 vista to 32 w7 - upgrade
any version of xp - clean install
64bit vitsa to 64 bit w7 - upgrade
64bit vista to 32 bit w7 - clean install.

clean install=everything gets lost
upgrade - all apps and settings remain.

do a backup of your entire os before proceeding. do a search on an app called Arconis. Perform a back up, and a boot disk. save the back up to an external hd. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BOOT DISK, HIGHLY IMPORTANT. after your backup finish, then check the first page and follow Blacks instructions, based on what you are doing.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a computer that is approximately 8 months old. I'm hoping to install the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 that I downloaded from this thread....So it looks like I'll be doing an upgrade...

I'll do those backups that you are talking about right now.

yeah, an upgrade is all thats needed. but it still helps to have that back up, just in case you arent satisfied or if something goes wrong. but make sure you create the boot cd. this helps in case you cant get back into your OS at all. you can just insert the disk and the app will run, which will help you reinstall everything. comes in handy.

I have been having some issues trying to install this. I'm attempting to perform a clean install on my laptop (Dell XPS M1330). I can't get past the first screen (Install Windows/Language Selection/Keyboard or input method) because I can't even get my keyboard and mouse to respond. I can install the Windows 7 Release Candidate (x64 and x86) and any other OS without any issue.

Has anyone had this issue in the past? How can I get around this? I've tried a USB keyboard and mouse as well, to no avail...

I'm about to charge this free shit to the game and pay them $30 for that student upgrade to 32-bit Win7 Home Premium from 32-bit Vista Home Basic.

Fuck all this mounting ISOs and DVD-roms and back up boot drives and shit.

Ain't even worth it to me.

I'm just saying...seem like the more y'all explain it the more complicated and risky it gets for neos like me.

I want ultimate but I'll settle for a safe home premium.

Mounting and ripping ain't my thing. Plus, I dowloaded all them 18 parts before extracting and shut down. Log on and all 18 of them shits is GONE.

Fuck this.

Just read the specs for Ultimate...I don't even need all that so-called extra shit it has over Home Premium.

Almost wrecked my shit for nada...

Anybody got a non-beta version of Office 2010 holla.

its easy to do, once you've done it once or twice. I reinstalled an OS about 4 times from rips. they worked fine. Just takes getting used to.

i doubt they are gone, you probably just have to search for them.

OK I have Acronis...what do I do now?

do a back up of your entire system. thats one of the options. store it on an external hd. when you first go to do this, it will ask if you want to make a bootable cd. do that.

Here is a screen shot of what I'm looking at right now...which options do I select.
