Seems like you're the one with the "emotions" about light-skinned women. Why do you assume that your skin color assessment somehow correlates with membership in that sorority group? Perhaps there are a considerable number of other, stronger factors that tie those women together (and skin tone happens to fall in line with the rest of them, as I suggested earlier).

If I stated that 90% of the black people I see committing crimes are dark-skinned, that may well be absolutely true in my experience, but WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN? You always have to look beyond the stereotype (light or dark).

They offered Hilliary Clinton an honorary membership too and she turned it down. . but would people have been so opposed if she had accepted?

I think it was a good move for AKA and Michelle Obama. I feel like that because what a lot people fail to realize AKA has a lot of power behind them; a lot powerful women who are members, and a lot of powerful people that support them. Which means more favor the Obamas and more power for AKA.

I, (and no disrespect to the Salmon Pink and Apple Green [that's right?] ladies on the board), have no respect for that organization AS A WHOLE. A lot of times people get fed up with new greeks because sometimes they "change", and advice is to wear the letters and not let them wear you. So because of this I judge, (as I do everyone), based on their character, not their affiliation.

However, I have had some VERY VERY bad experiences interacting with AKA's, once again, as a whole. There are individuals who are affiliated whom I care deeply for, but I see them as a person first; I cannot stress this enough. If Ms. Obama chooses to join- good for her. Congrats. Good for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Will this make me like her less? No. Will I think differently of her? No. But considering my past experiences it makes me wonder WHY AKA has extended an invitation to her now, when she was gracing the cover of Black Enterprise and doing her thing before Barack started the campaign trail.

Seems like you're the one with the "emotions" about light-skinned women. Why do you assume that your skin color assessment somehow correlates with membership in that sorority group? Perhaps there are a considerable number of other, stronger factors that tie those women together (and skin tone happens to fall in line with the rest of them, as I suggested earlier).

If I stated that 90% of the black people I see committing crimes are dark-skinned, that may well be absolutely true in my experience, but WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN? You always have to look beyond the stereotype (light or dark).

it's no big secret that aka's at one point required fair skin as a prerequesite for membership. goto any historically black college and ask to see the sorority's photo albums of past alumni going back into the beginning....
