Michael Shannon Might Play Cable in Deadpool 2

Multiple sources are saying that Michael Shannon, who has already done time in a comic book film as Zod in Man of Steel, is the man that Fox wants to play Cable in Deadpool 2. But then, there are so many reports about this role that it’s getting really confusing.

The first recent iteration of this story came from The Hollywood Reporter, which called Shannon the “frontrunner” for the part. Today, Deadline and Variety have also reported that Shannon is the “first choice” and (again) “frontrunner.” And yet, he’s just the latest addition to a long list.

We heard Kyle Chandler’s name a while back (his casting was supposedly part of the argument that lead to director Tim Miller leaving the movie) and, more recently, David Harbour (Stranger Things) has appeared on the list of possible actors.

There’s also a story from earlier in March, from Collider’s Cooper Hood, which stated that while Shannon was considered for a hot second, his schedule didn’t fit that of Deadpool 2. So either his schedule changed or the recent spate of stories comes from that earlier conversation.

There’s also the fact that Shannon may not want to pick up another superhero film, after spending so much of his time over the last few years answering questions about Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Or maybe, like Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, he’d like the chance to do another iconic comic book character—this time, one he’d like to talk about even more.

Cable is a huge role for Deadpool 2, one which was teased in the post-credits sequence and whose relationship with Deadpool is one the fans are clamoring to see on the big screen. It makes sense that there are a lot of names floating around while they seek the perfect person for the part. It sounds like at least someone in the studio is sure it’s Michael Shannon. Who knows if Shannon agrees?

Looks the part. Doesn't carry a name. But then again, Deadpool 2 is gonna make money regardless of who is Cable.

Shannon is so talented, I'm sure he could pull it off. Dude is a hell of an actor.

Anyone other than Kyle Chandler. I can't imagine Coach playing Cable.

Stranger Things dude...I can see it

“Stranger Things” star David Harbour is being eyed to play Cable in 20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool 2,” an individual with knowledge of the situation tells TheWrap.

The source also said Fox has screen-tested the actor, who plays Chief Jim Hopper on the Netflix phenomenon, to play the time traveling mutant in the upcoming sequel to the hit film.

In the Marvel comics, “Cable” is the alter ego of Nathan Summers, son of X-Men mainstay Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops. The character traveled to the present day from a possible future timeline.

Reps for Harbour have not responded to the TheWrap’s request for comment, and Fox had no comment.

Created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Louise Simonson, Cable first appeared in a tease at the end of “The New Mutants” issue #86 in February of 1990. The scarred, ravaged character has a bionic left arm, a cybernetic eye, and embedded technology that allows him to hack into computer systems.

Cable has also long been associated with the Marvel Comics mutant team X-Force. 20th Century Fox has been openly developing an “X-Force” film, which could follow “Deadpool 2.”

“Deadpool 2” does not currently have a release date. Written by screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, it is also expected to include the popular character Domino.

In initial sequel talks, Reynolds and screenwriters Reese and Wernick envisioned a scrappy, raunchy and inexpensive movie in the same vein as the first.

“John Wick” co-director David Leitch will direct “Deadpool 2,” replacing director Tim Miller, who left the sequel over creative differences.

Shannon is too intense for this role that will have some comedy in it. I don't think this one is for him. That's just me. I hate the fact that we are inundated with so much info about movies.

Back in the day we'd just be surprised.

He wanted it but James Cameron came calling with that long avatar sequel money, so he signed a multi-film deal for that.

IMO trying to make a sequel to avatar is just dumb... But hey:money:
the cowboys gotta get some revenge on the alien native americans..they will destroy half that place and prob try to enslave them..than for the final movie traitor human aka human turn alien will sacrifice his life for the alien native americans and they will live always remembering him as the 1..cac male worship on an alien planet
