Respectfully, I never understood this stance. Regardless of the time in history, the world has never been perfect. In some aspects depending on the part of the world, this is a better time to live. Just considering the fact that babies and women don't die in birth like in the past is one example. If you are Black, slavery and jim crow not outright existing are improvements. Financially, you have more opportunities to acquire wealth. Technology allows families to truly stay in contact globally and travel to each other in hours to a few days opposed to months or years.

Before having kids, my main reason was i knew i wasn't ready to put someone else before me and i really didn't want to be responsible for another life. Honestly even now, i could do better as a parent.Not saying this is true for you, but in general people should live in that truth without being guilt tripped or feel like shit for not wanting kids. Alot of people would be much better aunts, uncles, godparents or mentors than giving into society's idea that everyone should have kids.

Even in the 90s, the things you are speaking on existed though. Technology has just made these things more observable. In the 90s, a few people may have known about a suspected pedophile. Today, you have more of an idea about 30 of them who live within 10 miles just by going to a website. You are somewhat better able to protect your kids in modern times.

There was a time when marrying and having sex with a 12 year was considered normal and acceptable. In the 90s, the coach or gym teacher fucking an underage student was overlooked.
