The shooting was reported at 4822 Fall Crest Circle in Sarasota, near the intersection of Proctor Road and McIntosh Road.

A weapon was recovered from the home, officials said. The sheriff’s office called it an isolated incident with no threat to the public

“It is currently a shooting investigation. We do have multiple persons involved,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said. “And it appears that all of those persons are accounted for, therefore, being an isolated incident with no threat to the public.”

Several area schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution after the shooting.

Sarasota Middle School sent a text to parents alerting them that the school had secured its perimeter. The alert later expired.

Suncoast Technical College and Suncoast Polytechnical High School lifted their secure perimeters after about 15 minutes. Wilkinson Elementary School, Ashton Elementary School and Sarasota Middle School updated their secured perimeters to hold status for about 15 minutes before receiving the all-clear.

All schools were safe and there were no threats to students or staff members, officials said.

The sheriff’s office set up a media staging area at Bee Ridge Presbyterian Church, about a block from the shooting scene. A heavy law enforcement presence remained in the area Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies were checking identification of residents entering the gated Amberlea community to ensure only people who live there could access the area around the crime scene.

One resident who lives across the street from the shooting said he heard gunshots around noon.

“A little in shock,” the resident said. “Happening right here in my neighborhood. And Amberlea is a safe, a safe community. I mean, it’s gated. And just people dying is, it’s horrible.”

The investigation caused traffic delays on Proctor Road eastbound, with a right lane blocked near McIntosh Road creating about a half-mile backup and three-minute delays.

UPDATE 4:45 P.M. 2/10 SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Authorities said they believe a shooting that left multiple people dead on Tuesday was an isolated incident.
