McDonald's to start offering ‘breakfast at midnight’

Fast food chain McDonald's is banking on midnight breakfast cravings for Egg McMuffins and hotcakes to bring in big business

It’s never too early -- or too late -- for breakfast. At least that's what McDonald’s is banking on.

The fast food chain plans to begin offering breakfast items like the Egg McMuffin and hotcakes starting at midnight, keeping the menu available for a 10 hour stretch at its 24 hour locations.Fast food chain banking on midnight breakfast cravings for Egg McMuffins and hotcakes to bring in big business.

McDonald’s executives are hoping the move will boost sales during the relatively slow hours of 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Early morning hours are the "last unconquered frontier" for quick-service restaurants, accounting for “less than 1 percent of total QSR customer traffic,” according to data cited by Burger Business.

McDonald’s will test its Breakfast After Midnight campaign in Ohio to gauge the “Nocturnivore” response, Business Insider reported.

McDonald’s isn’t the first fast food chain to try and reel in customers at the wee hours of the morning.

Jack in the Box makes its total menu available all day and created a TV ad promoting late-night runs to the restaurant.

I never understood why it was so hard, logistically speaking, for them to serve breakfast foods all hours of the day! (Or non-breakfast foods during breakfast hours, for that matter.)

I don't understand now why they're only test-marketing it in Ohio...hello, I'd think a 24-hr. town like New York would give you all the evidence you'd need!

They can't wait to serve their artery clogging food 24hrs a day. McDonalds should be shut down by the board of health.

Blaming McDonalds because you're fat is like blaming Hooters that your husband likes big boobs.
Nothing wrong with McDonalds if you practice a little self control. Besides, there are far worse things out there than McDonalds. Can you day Krispy Kreme ?

Why shouldn't people be able to eat whatever they want whenever they want it??

IHOP watch out!

You have to remember there is a group of people whose nights are like our days - the night workers. They might want breakfast at that time. I don't eat McDonalds but I do not see it as all bad. I don't believe that people are going to set their alarms to go to eat at midnight what they can get during the daylight hours.

What took you so long!!!
As far as the food service Industry goes this could be a functional disaster this is a burden on workers preparing two services at once, especially those working minimum wage, but it's a good idea though

I don't do McDonald's much, but I always liked their steak, egg & cheese bagel. I wish they'd bring back the spanish omelette one.

They would have to test in a small market as opposed to N.Y. in the preparation and timing of the to services at once because that grille person may also have to scramble eggs and flip burgers, pull fries and put together Egg macs etc, this would require more staffing also.

That Spanish omelette was off the chain. I could eat that chicken biscuit any time of the day tho.

Quite frankly, I just assumed they were already selling breakfast foods after midnight at the 24 hours drive thrus, although I understand the differences in prep setup is why they had not started already. All they have to do is limit the breakfast menu to biscuits, hash browns and McMuffin/Griddle sandwiches [forget about hotcakes, etc] and they should be good.

They should offer their breakfast menu 24/7. I don't understand why more chains don'tdothis. I can eat pancakes, eggs, biscuits, mcmuffins, any time of day....

Tell that to the operators who just had to shill out some money for the redecoration.

Takes money to make money. It should be an option offered to franchise owners though. Not sure if any franchises offer a 24 hr breakfast menu, but if I were an owner, I'd like to have that option.

McDonald franchises or other businesses? Sonic serves breakfast all day. I've not come across a McDonald's that does, tho.

I still love IHOP but when I need something fast and or i am on the road in the middle or the night McD's will work out just right
