ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!?? I used to stay in VA Beach.. At the strip them white boys get wasted!! When its beef, No more than 3-4 dudes fighting at one time, and I only seen that happen ONCE! This one time a white boy got tossed out a club, pulled out his heat on the bouncer, then this next bouncer pulled out his heat and the dude dropped his gun and then got arrested! ARRESTED WITHOUT A SHOT BEING FIRED!! White boys dont roll deep (like niggas), dont mob (like niggas), dont start trouble just because he got a crew and theres bitches around (like niggas) and even when they real fucked up, their boys make sure hes straight (UN-like niggas)!!! Them dudes just wanna party, drink and kick it with some females... Flossing?? lol these cats come to the club in sandals!! They not shooting into the crowd, they trying to buy everybody shots!!

I agree the All-Star Vegas Weekend was out of control but you can't blame the people blame the city for not preparing for the vast amount of various elements that the game brought. Some caucasian people walked in fear for 72 hours and some enjoyed the negro-motivated festivities of the weekend. We stayed at the Monte Carlo and we had a good time at the hotel because the security at the hotel made it comfortable for the guest at hotel. But the strip was another beast. There was a lot gang banging, jewelry snatching and simple assaults everywhere you turned. We as black people should wake up and see how the world views us as a people; they view us as animals without discipline or structure. I hope this will be a wake up call for us to learn how to respect each other and ourselves before it's too late to talk anymore.

Why don't these type of incidents happen at Essence Music Festival, St. Lucia Jazz Festival, HBO Black Film Festival, or any other non hip hop type events where there are tons of black people attending. I agree with most of your points, and these in particular. I was listenting to a sports show on the way to work yesterday morning and these idiots were acting like they just can't figure out why the US team no longer wins gold at the Olympics. Simple. No fundamentals. Period. Yes we have superior talent, but that means shit when playing against a team with superior fundamentals.

Regarding your comment about the psychology of large groups. You are correct that abhorrent behavior is more likely, but YOUNG niccas just take the shit to extreme. I didn't go this year, but for the previous three super bowls I have gone to Vegas, their biggest weekend hands down. No problems like the shit niccas on here are defending.

Despite the $1.5 billion spent on security, Tracy McGrady declared the 2004 Athens Games too unsafe to honor his promise to play for the U.S. team. As it turned out, it wouldn't be the terrorists creating chaos for USA Basketball's personnel, but Larry Brown.

So now, McGrady is threatening to boycott the 2008 NBA All-Star game in New Orleans, because, well, he's behaving like a selfish baby.

"When they first mentioned to me that the All-Star game was going to be in New Orleans, the first thing I thought about is how much security they are going to have for the players and everybody there," McGrady said. "If I don't feel that I'm going to be safe, if I am on that team, I will look into probably not even going."

Besides NFL cornerbacks, it's hard to imagine what impending doom awaits the Houston Rockets star during All-Star weekend in the Big Easy.

Because that'll be about all that comes at him and his peers in New Orleans or anywhere else. If McGrady feels that unsafe, he can hunker down in his Ritz Carlton hotel suite, play video games and order room service for three days. The way T-Mac is going, he's going to be a shut-in by his 40th birthday.

McGrady is a smart, likable guy, but this doomsday act is getting tired. What's worse, it's irresponsible.

As one of the Rockets' franchise stars and a face of the league, McGrady knows he has an obligation to go to All-Star weekend and sell his sport on one of its biggest stages. He is a chronic complainer to begin with – someone so self-defeating that he's turned Doctor Doom himself, Jeff Van Gundy, into Mary Poppins in an attempt to nullify his narcissism.

New Orleans is desperate for the boost, both spiritual and financial, that an All-Star weekend will bring. Of course, the New Orleans Hornets will lean on the All-Star game as a marketing tool as they re-enter the city post-Katrina. Maybe it won't be the easiest All-Star weekend, maybe it won't be the most convenient, but for goodness sakes, it is important.

Once in a while, maybe McGrady and the NBA's stars can do something that isn't easy, that doesn't indulge every remote scenario that that they can concoct in their minds.

"I don't think it's the right city to have this type of event right now," McGrady said. "I know the city is in need of trying to get back on their feet, in need of money. Safety comes first. I'm sure they have to do a lot of research and look into before they really make this decision."

Whose safety? What is he talking about? For all the talk about how horrible Vegas was two weeks ago – and all the sad, scared alarmists who sounded like frightened school children – do you know what Jermaine O'Neal told me was his biggest problem in Vegas? Getting stuck on the Strip in traffic. If McGrady hasn't figured this out in his multiple All-Star appearances, no one goes to that weekend to attack basketball players, but rather worship them.

Here's some advice, T-Mac: If you want to go marching down Bourbon Street at 3 o'clock in the morning, you'll take your chances like everyone else. Odds are, he'll get a beer spilled on him. That's life in the big city. If he goes to New Orleans to do his job, if all the league's players do, there won't be a problem.

Essentially, here is what McGrady is trying to say: The congestion of humanity and the police force will conspire to make it risky for the players to go out partying. If that's the case, McGrady is feeding into the stereotype of the selfish NBA star that sensible people believe is largely exaggerated.

Get over yourself, T-Mac, and do New Orleans – and do the sport – a favor and tell everyone that it's the league's honor to go do something for the punished people of that city and region. You need to understand that someone smarter than you will make sure you're tucked in safe and sound in New Orleans next February.

Ok, so I've read a lot of the comments in the post and there's truth in a lot of it. I think the problem is there is truth to both sides of this issue and that truth needs to be acknowledged before we can really make some progress here. There is NO question that when a lot of Black folks get together there is a sense of fear that "others" in our presence feel. That's been going on since this country's beginning and is still prevelant today. Unfortunatly there are many people in this country that aren't educated enough and exposed enough to understand how misguided this uncomfort and fear really is.

And there is no question that we have a tendancy to act a fuckin fool when we (the young Black community) gather at SOME of our more notable social events. I've hit damn near all of these spots over the years and continue to do so. All Star, freaknic, Miami Memorial Day Wkend, etc... See the thing is a lot of these events start off on some real cool shit but they are eventually over run by a young, ignorant & thugish element. That's when it hits the news and that's when the hip hop community gets crushed with negative press. Now I'm a 31 yr old Black man that grew up a passionate fan of hip hop, and I'm a part of the hip hop community & culture that ends up getting a ton of bad press. I'm not a thug. I've never been to prison. My parents instilled a set of values and moral in me. I'm a college graduate and USUALLY a very responsible adult who loves to party hard and have a good fuckin time. See that's the problem. If I had to guess I'd say more than 90% of the "hip hop community" is just like myself. But there is definitely a thug element that has successfully been able to infiltrate hip hop w/an insane, ignorant, prison mentality. This element has also been able to (with A LOT HELP FROM THE MEDIA) become the hip hop representative to the world. I agree with an earlier poster who said good & decent Black folks have to start making it clear that the behavior of a lot these ignant mofos is just not acceptable. It has to become more "fashionable" in our community to actually carry ourselves with class and not the opposite. I think it's very important for this message to come from the brothers first. Ignorance is to often celebrated while intelligence is barely mentioned.

For example, (actually a very bad example) I was on the sub way in DC 2 years ago with a buddy of mine on a way to a Wizards game. As soon as I got on I heard a serious commotion comming from some little kids on the train. I mean screaming, yelling, mutha fuck this, mutha fuck that, etc... The straw that broke the back was when an old lady told tem to cut it out and I heard one say "fuck that bitch" I mean this woman was literally 80+ and this kids no more than 11 or 12. I was pissed after I heard that. I looked at my boy, he looked at me. We walked over to the kids, took our belts off and grabbed two (the others ran) and whipped the shit outta those two. I mean I caught one with atleast 4-5 VERY GOOD licks. The little fucker started crying and at the next stop ran off the train. Now this is a bad example and I dont encourage anybody actually trying this shit as I kinda regret doing it myself. But I hope that these kids will think again next time when they are thinking of disrespecting an elder and acting a fuckin fool. Point being this wild, hooligan mentality has to be nipped in the bud at a young age. A stance needs to be takin. I'm a wild mufucka myslef but I'm not doing a damn thing publicly to embarrass myself, my family, or my community. People need to think about that shit when they at spots like All star.
