I don't get what people don't realize. Cops are paid to protect citizens not kill them. Throwing a cooler at a person riding a scooter has a high chance of killing them. Why would we be cool with cops throwing coolers at people. Makes no sense. We are assuming the cops were even justified in chasing him in the first place.
This adversarial system we have with these supposed professionals thinking they are playing cowboys and Indians is ridiculous. So what if he gets away. They can still indict him for eluding and safely apprehend.
The guy on the bike posed no danger to the cop. There is no justifiable reason for causing his death.
Cops are employed to protect city property, businesses and the interests of the Mayors office. As denizens of the city we're supposed to govern ourselves. When folks make legal infractions the consequence is being captured dead or alive by law enforcement. Either way, police are taking you in. Whether you go to jail or the morgue.
