to answer the OP... yes. The problem with the whole Takeover vs Ether argument is that you have one song vs one verse. If Hov just got all his damn verses about Nas (including Don't You Know) and used 'em as one big load of ammunition at Nas, then I think this battle would have had a different outlook. Instead, Nas did that... loaded everything on one song and dropped it at one time, using his whole focus on it.

Honestly Ether wasn't that good to me. I think Ether was more about WHO it was from and WHO it was against. If you ever notice if you ask somebody to name what EXACTLY was so nice about Ether than can't really tell you. It was a good song but as a diss, none of the disses gave me that old school "OOOHHHH you got dissed" feeling. He started talking about dude being ugly and being 36 when he was like 31, shit didn't make alot of sense. But I think being that it came from a dude that was more poet than Punisher, it gave it more credibility than it deserved... But the 2nd verse on this song is better than both lyrically and diss wise.

Son, I've said it a million times, nas is in my top 2 rappers of all time BUT ether wasn't that great the beat was CRAZY, that gave it the edge over takeover TO ME, but I don't think he won that battle... Definitely not in the landslide people like to pretend he won it by

I totally agree.IMO people WANTED Nas to win from jump because JayZ seemed like more of the bully.Nas was "the good guy" who responded.As you said, lyrically Takeover was more "shock" than actually substance.The bulk of the diss was on Jay's looks which was extremely wack considering that Jay still pulled/pulls better chicks.
