Honestly Ether wasn't that good to me. I think Ether was more about WHO it was from and WHO it was against. If you ever notice if you ask somebody to name what EXACTLY was so nice about Ether than can't really tell you. It was a good song but as a diss, none of the disses gave me that old school "OOOHHHH you got dissed" feeling. He started talking about dude being ugly and being 36 when he was like 31, shit didn't make alot of sense. But I think being that it came from a dude that was more poet than Punisher, it gave it more credibility than it deserved... But the 2nd verse on this song is better than both lyrically and diss wise.

how much more can you dis someone than calling them a dick sucking faggot![]()
I know it came out so much later people didn't care but this was a much better diss, better flow, lyrics and beat than both...

agree with everything FJP is saying......... I still think takeover was better... i felt he dealt with Nas in ONE VERSE not a whole SONG.. and all of dat elementary type dissing Nas was doing was childish.. Hov was speaking str8 truth and thats why he Won.... He battled with truth Nas went to war with name callling......!
What I mean is Truth in the diss means alot.. Example how when Jay said how Nas had a one hot album every 10 year average, as a Nas fan even I agreed with that, Everything after It was written was subpar. Calling a dude a dick sucking faggot honestly sounded like some kid shit like "Yo momma fat"
At the same time, there's something to be said for effectiveness. You can make a dis as intricate & detailed as you want, sometimes a well placed "dick sucking faggot" is all that's needed. I mean think about it, as men we all know that once you are in an argument & one man invites another man to his dick, the talking part of the beef is now OVER. Furthermore, look at the response by each party. When takeover came out, nas didn't even respond right away, it was at least a week if not more later. When ether came out, jay literally responded overnight, not to mention him going on radio talking about he wants to fight nas on pay per view. If that don't sound like a nicca who knows he got beat I don't know

And so what Nas said wasnt the truth??
Y'all niggas deal with emotions like bitches
What's sad is I love you 'cause you're my brother
You traded your soul for riches
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?
You no mustache having, with whiskers like a rat
Compared to Beans you wack
And your man stabbed Un and made you take the blame
You ass, went from Jaz to hanging with Caine, to Herb, to Big
And, Eminem murdered you on your own shit
You a dick-riding faggot, you love the attention
Shawn Carter to Jay-Z, damn you on Jaz dick
How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips?
Wanted to be on every last one of my classics
You pop shit, apologize, nigga, just ask Kiss
Remember Jay was on his pedestal shit and was killing wack mc's like Mase and Jay Felony and thought he could body Nas in the same fashion. It all started when Nas wouldnt record or appear in Jay's video.
How is selling your soul for riches true? People don't even know if the Illuminati exists much less a rapper being in it.
That Beans line? come on I like Beans too but ....Come on? If he was only concerned with dissing women why did he diss him and Mobb Deep on the same song? That line didn't make sense.
And Jay didn't kill Mase at all.
Funny thing is I didn't make the thread to argue about the battle, I simply asked about this specific song against Ether AND Takeover.
It's called an opinion. /thread

I agree with FJP on this one and I've been saying the same shit since 05.
I love both Jay and Nas as artists, and I thank Nas has been consistently better than Jay since he came out of retirement. That being said, "Blueprint 2" pointed out every single one of the very obvious flaws and contradictions regarding Nas's image. Jay was concise with that shit. Nas always tries to put himself out there like some sort of prophet or spiritual griot. Jay took that image apart piece by piece and pointed out tjhe hypocrisy in it. I never listen to Takeover or Ether much these days, but I still give Blueprint 2 some burn every now and then.
. That shit was almost surreal how he was goin off on everybody

...but I can never forget that night when Nas came on Power 105 after he was stopped from doing that mock hanging shit at that concert (Summer Jam?). That shit was almost surreal how he was goin off on everybody

If you thought It was Written was nice that makes 2 great albums out of his first 2 which shows how bad Jay was reaching for that shit. It Was Written was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better then Jay's second CD easily.
And Nas roasted everything about Jay. I personally thought the personal jokes were fucking hilarious as anyone who ever did that shit with their friends back in the day would.
As for other diss'... He said "Shawn Carter to Jay Z, damn you on Jaz (Jaz-O) dick, How many Biggie rhymes gonna come out yo fat lips" all true...
When that nigga said Jay was getting chased to his building with Hawaiian shirts hangin' with lil chase, called him a stan, said he disses women cause he's been ugly his whole life and roasted him getting them now just cause he's paid, said Em murdered him on his track, Jay kept his face in Foxy's puss, said he called him and he didn't give him his nbr, just a style to run with and the list goes on...
Nas kept the fucking disses coming. Anyone who doesn't think Ether was straight up and down classical has an ulterior motive or something...
. Whether or not the listening public (which generally speaking isn't a discerning audience) feels Nas won, Nas knows in his own heart how that shit really played.Funny thing is I didn't make the thread to argue about the battle, I simply asked about this specific song against Ether AND Takeover.
People forget that this battle brought Nas back from the brink. He was never really known as a "battle rapper." He was the underdog at that point. When he dropped "Ether," people were so shocked that he actually responded with such venom that they basically gave him the win IMO. I was one of those people, but since 05 I've changed my tune.
