LSU takes #1 spot from USC in AP poll

Dude, stop with this "our conference is soooo great crap! Only LSU and very possibly Florida can go to any other conference and run that shit. Just like Texas/Oklahoma, Michigan/OSU, etc. etc.. The rest of those squads would still have two losses at least in any other BCS conference.

AND THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME......In the 15 years that the game has been played, the game has been decided by less than 10 points THREE TIMES! OUT OF 15 YEARS THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME HAS BEEN CLOSE 3 TIMES! That shit is typically not as BRUTAL as you make it out to be.....

I love the SEC just like I love every other conference. I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL. At the end of the day, play the schedule and beat the teams on the schedule. If you lose, you're out! I really don't think LSU will have that tough of a time with the "BRUTAL SEC" just like Southern Cal wouldn't if they played in the SEC

usc isn't used to having to play really tough games week in/week out. look at how they're dominating the teams in their conference.

How the hell is Wisconsin ahead of the South Florida bulls??:smh::smh::smh:

even the analysts on espn are NOT sold on wisconsin. none of them picked wisconsin over illinois.

they said they play a weak schedule AND their defense is suspect.

south florida has played a tougher schedule.

usc isn't used to having to play really tough games week in/week out. look at how they're dominating the teams in their conference.

Neither is LSU used to playing tough games week in and week out......again....their only tough game of the season is coming up in about 18 hours. After that, it's smooth sailing. None of the other teams have impressive quarterbacks or dynamic offenses to last with LSU.....

Like I said in another thread, the SEC schedule is BRUTAL for.....VANDERBILT, OLE MISS AND MISSISSIPI STATE.

The SEC schedule is TOUGH for ALABAMA, TENNESEE, AUBURN, KENTUCKY, ARKANSAS, GEORIGA, AND SOUTH CAROLINA

The SEC schedule is EASY for LSU and FLORIDA. USC is in THIS CLASS.

Basically, if I change the conference, the layout will just about be the same as the one above. Each conference has an elite team or two, a slew of middle of the packers trying to get to the top, and a couple of doormats lining up as easy victories.

USC doesn't have tough games because they're better than everyone else on a year to year basis. They'll get tough games from CAL, ARIZONA STATE (SLEEPER TEAM), OREGON, AND UCLA this year though

And here's another nugget for everyone......b/c the time between the end of the regular season and the bowl games is so long.....no one is battle tested anymore. It's a fresh start for everyone!!!!!!!!

i agree to a point. but you have to consider coaching and RECRUITING AND THE TALENT POOL to solidify your case.

ole miss, vandy, and miss state, because of that tough schedule, all give me confidence that they can be competitive against ANY other team from another conference.

and don't sleep on those teams; they'll sneak-up and kick your ass too. and to say that these three teams are really the ONLY weak teams in this big conference says a lot about the parity that exists.

take the big 10. all you have are osu & michigan (until app. state).:lol::lol:

take the pac 10. you have USC way, way, way above everyone else except cal berkeley who's in 2nd but not good enough to beat usc. basically, usc has to beat themselves to give ANYONE else in that conference a chance to whoop them.

the big east. well, while everyone is screaming wvu & rutgers, south florida and boston college are doing great.

my point about all this is simple:

you really don't have any "gimme" games in the SEC. all the road games are tough and every team plays hard.

you can bet with alabama when they play lsu at home cause there's a possibility, etc.

but can you really bet against osu playing ANYBODY in the big 10 on the road or at home?

can you really place a confident bet against usc playing anybody in the pac 10 on the road or at home?

there's no parity in those conferences, but like i said, you have to consider recruiting and the talent pool. there's a good REASON why south florida is kicking ass this year:

1. coaching
2. recruiting
3. location = vast talent pool in florida.

here's why I DO NOT RESPECT WISCONSIN.

just like everyone else NOT RESPECTING WISCONSIN!!!

from ESPN's cover page:

YAWN, WISCONSIN

"Bret Bielema is 17-1 since replacing Barry Alvarez. His team has won 14 in a row and is ranked fifth, yet is an underdog to Illinois (2-10 in '06). Why aren't oddsmakers excited about Wisconsin?"

This thread is getting silly!

Does LSU deserve to be ranked #1 right now? YES.

But when morons start saying a) how much better the SEC is than the Pac-10, b) that USC doesnt face competition in the Pac10, and c) that "half of the SEC can beat USC" you start to lose credibility! :smh:

Let's have a reality check...

SEC teams v. PAC-10 squads (last five years):

2006
Arkansas 14, USC 50 [winner: PAC-10]
Auburn 40, Washington State 14 [winner: SEC]
LSU 45, Arizona 3 [winner: SEC]
Tennessee 35, Cal 18 [winner: SEC]

2005
Arkansas 17, USC 70 [winner: PAC-10]
LSU 35, Arizona State 31 [winner: SEC]

2004
LSU 22, Oregon State 21 [winner: SEC]

2003
Auburn 0, USC 23 [winner: PAC-10]
LSU 59, Arizona 13 [winner: SEC]
Mississippi State 34, Oregon 42 [winner: PAC-10]

2002
Auburn 17, USC 24 [winner: PAC-10]
Mississippi State 13, Oregon 36 [winner: PAC-10]

WOW, the Pac10 and the SEC have split in head-to-head competition over the last five years!!! (and if we add in that Cal-Tenn game from this season, the Pac-10 actually has a better vs SEC teams)!!! Also note that the Trojans are 4-0 against the SEC!

Also, of the Trojans 6 losses in the last five years... 4 were to Pac10 teams.

So reality is that neither the SEC nor PAC10 is that much better than the other confernce. USC has convincingly beaten all SEC opponents it has faced (and those teams were not the SEC's bottom feeders). And I believe after SC stomped Arkansas for the first time Coach Nutt declared that SC was just as good as any team in the SEC! And the fact that Pac10 teams have had more success against the Trojans than any other conference combined disproves the myth that the Trojans dont face any competition in the PAC10.

By the way all this conference talk is ridiculous! One team wins the title not a conference! If you really want to know what team is the most competitive look at the OOC schedule and results!!!

BTW...... Mississippi State is an ugly, disfigured step child so they dont count

Those WALLOPINGS that USC gave SEC teams dont count either ..... I remember EACH FUCKIN GAME..................... WALLOPINGS, WALLOPINGS, WALLOPINGS, WALLOPINGS WALLOPINGS How about that USC 50 Auburn 14 WALLOPING

#1 i like pac 10 football. the conference is NOT as competitive top to bottom as the SEC, but it is competitive to a point.

i just wished usc wasn't soooooooo much better than everyone else, but at least those teams can win and do win every now and then. but lately? like in the pete carroll era?

don't bet against usc. don't.

and one more thing: I REALLY RESPECT USC FOR THE OOC SCHEDULE THEY PLAY EVERY YEAR.

they don't schedule the citadel or youngstown state.

they play SEC teams and can beat them. true.

they play ND.

they play whoever OOC, and that does deserve some respect. and UW played them tough this year which is good for the conference.

i LOVE college football, but my preference is SEC football because week-to-week, game-to-game, there's more competition and close games (florida vs ole miss, etc). than in other conferences.

are you gonna bet with wsu vs usc? how about arizona? you and i both know they're gonna be slaughters.

in the SEC, i can't tell from year-to-year who the favorite will be. but for the pac 10, i won't bet against usc. for the big 10, i KNOW osu has no competition right now. none.

the big 12, even though oklahoma looked dominant, has colorado on an upswing, but all the other teams are in the dumpster.

WTF happened to big 12 football?

Check the rankings. I lose count of how many teams from the SEC stay ranked in the top 15. The SEC always finishes the season with more ranked teams than any other conference every fukkin year.

Is that enough reality for you?

SEC BITCHES!!!

The PAC-10 was an irrelevant conference from 1979 up until 2003, when USC started winning again.

Maybe you're too young to remember, but the PAC-10 was garbage for two whole decades--the 80's and 90's.

To me, the PAC-10 is actually still garbage because one team doesn't make a conference great.

Like blackmouth said earlier, who's gonna actually bet money against USC when they play Cal or Oregon?

In the SEC however, people around the country are confident from year to year that whoever the top 4-5 teams in the SEC are, any one of them could beat the other.

If you don't know this, then you're probably too young or you just started watching CFB in 2003.

SEC BITCH!!!

Youre an idiot, if LSU and Florida..... dont run the table (I know you aint counting on Georgia, Kentucky, and the WEAKER USC), then the SEC will only be playing for a consolation in the BCS..... You mofos dont face FACTS, again it doesnt matter how tough your conferences if your teams nullify each other

BINGO!!! there you have it folks in plain view.

"deuce" thinks that good competition, where teams can nullify each other, is actually a weakness or fault.

so by default, you naturally ADMIRE a lop-sided conference where one team is ALWAYS dominant over the rest.

here's a clue: in the SEC, damn near every game is a toss-up.

miss state can beat auburn and they have.
and last week, auburn beat florida after ole miss almost beat them.
and guess who herbstreit and corso picked today in the vandy vs auburn game? they picked vandy at home.

see, from week to week, you can't really tell in the SEC.

that's the beauty of competition and the reason why i respect the teams in the conference, the conference for playing a championship, and for the fans NOT GIVING A FUCK about playing a weak ass schedule so you can be ranked high at the end of the year.

no photoshop. this is espn's cover page this a.m.

Facts:

A. Because of the greatness of the SEC, Florida did not run the table.

B. Florida lost to Auburn, and was "nullified".

C. Ohio St went undefeated in a weak BIG Ten conference.

D. Florida destroyed Ohio St 41-17 and took home the Natl Championship.

E. Michigan played in the consolation Rose Bowl game.

F. They were beaten easily.

G. You're wrong again.

H. For somebody who spends so much time being wrong, you sure like calling other people idiots.

I'm not sure what your point is? What do the 80s and 90s have to do with the current programs??? I thought we were discussing which programs are the best now! I mean if you you want to go historically - USC has more National Championships than LSU, Florida, or Auburn BITCH! Secondly, I'm a USC fan, not a Pac10 fan (persoanlly I like to see my Pac10 rivals lose - TRUE fans dont cheer for their conference rivals)! You can cheer for the entire SEC all you want, it won't change the fact that USC is a better program than any team in the SEC!!!

It's like that in every conference except for the very elite teams man.

Wrong. In the PAC-10, there's never any competition for USC.

LSU, Florida, and Tennessee have all won BCS championshios and have all beaten each other. Auburn went undefeated in 2004 so they were elite also and guess what, somebody jumped up and beat them.

This year, LSU has Florida to deal with and if we win our division, we'll probably have to play them damn Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC championship.

Nobody in the PAC 10 is ever on USC's level, including this year.

But then again, from 1979 to 2002, USC was garbage too. So I guess we'll have to give the rest of the PAC 10 time to catch up.

Completely off topic but I bet College Game Day will think twice before going back to LSU for another broadcast.

That was about the lamest, dullest, laziest CGD crowd I've EVER seen and I haven't missed a CGD in about 6 years.

I guess they're saving for tonight or something........

Please--you shouldn't even be in this conversation.

Your conference is better than it has been in decades, and it's still garbage.

USC has no competition in the PAC-10.

The 2nd best team is CAL, who will probably end up playing int the Holiday Bowl or some shit against somebody like Kansas St.

Other than USC, take a look at the Bowl games teams from the PAC-10 are invited to. PAC-10 teams are invited to garbage bowls against garbage teams. That shows you right there what people around the country truly think about PAC-10 football.

In addition to all of this, your conference says it will walk away from college football if a playoff system is instituted. Scared of competition I guess.

Come see me when somebody from the PAC-10 other than USC wins a National Championship, then we can discuss who has a stronger conference.

SEC BITCH!!!

Garbage from 1979 to 2002??? Just because they didnt win a Nation Championship during that period makes the garabe???
There were several 2-3 loss seasons during that period as well as several Bowl victories!

By your logic here, LSU was garbage from 1958 to 20002!!!

U R AN IDIOT!!!

OK, You have confirmed what a MORON u R!!!

Why in the fuck would I want a PAC10 team other than USC to win a National Championship??? Do you realize how stupid that sounds??? I want to lose my confernce and a shot a NC to try to argue what conference is better?

I alread told you I don't really care what conference is better as long as USC is the best team in the NATION! Fuck a conference! When LSU catches USC in NCs or the SEC wins 1 NC then come talk to me...

Okay, so now you say you're glad the PAC-10 is weak because that makes it easy for USC.

But earlier, you came in here arguing that the PAC-10 was just as strong as the SEC.

when morons start saying a) how much better the SEC is than the Pac-10, b) that USC doesnt face competition in the Pac10, and c) that "half of the SEC can beat USC" you start to lose credibility! reality is that neither the SEC nor PAC10 is that much better than the other confernce.

You made these claims. Here it you claim that the PAC-10 is as strong a conference as anybody else.

Seems like you want it both ways.

So I'll sum it up for you. USC dominates a weak conference--big fish in a small pond.

And you like it that way.

Glad we agree.

You came in here arguing that the PAC-10 was just as strong as the SEC. Now you're backing off.

So let's see. USC dominates a weak conference--big fish in a small pond.

NO, we dont agree I said the Pac10 is just as competitive as the SEC. (And the head-to-head competition proves it so) I never said which conference is better nor do I care!

And USC is a big fish in a big pond!!! All those National Championships and Top10 finishes give us credibility inisde and outside our conference!!!

You are just jealous that your team cant dominate its confernce like SC has done in its conference, so you want to tout the conference instead of your team (thats a fuckin cop out)

Like I said when the SEC collectively wins a National Championship then you can start bragging about your conference. Until then, pick 1 damn team and tell me how he stacks up against the USC Trojans!!!

You know DAMN well the PAC 10 is nowhere near as competitive as the SEC. As a matter of fact Mississippi State would probably smash everyone in that pie conference aside from USC, CAL and Oregon.

The PAC-10 is scared of a playoff system. Why is that?

The PAC-10 refuses to play a conference championsip game. Why is that?

The PAC-10 is garbage outside of USC. Why is that?

The PAC-10 is a conference of hoes and USC eats hoe cake every week.

Don't take it out on me. America agrees.

He just started watching college football in 2003/2004. He shouldn't be in this conversation.

Once again since when is college football played as a conference?
As long as Mississippi State can't smash USC... why would I care?

Last time I checked Auburn doesn't cheer for Alabama, Florida dosen't cheer for Tennessee, etc.

Conferences don't win anything!!! There is no conference has every won a National Championship.

The bottom line is... USC is a National Championship contender every year (last 5 years) and that they have faced more competiotion in conference than out (and that includes a 4-0 record against the SEC)!!!

So, I will say again... IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT CONFERENCE IS BETTER until they start awarding bowl game births to conferences as a whole and to say that USC is a National power because of the conference they play in is absurd!!! They have consistently had one of the toughest OOC schedules every year and consistently have top rated recruiting classes nationally... and that has nothing to do with the Pac10. Thats talent that matches up with anybody in any conference!!!

Illinois is looking good so far. Ron Zook has that team playing well on offense. I had them competing for the Big 10 title next year but that would be some surprising shit if they win the BIG 10 this year.

Well, we agree on something! I've thought all year that Wisconsin was overrated and they appear so today. Also, Illinois WR Regis Benn is the TRUTH!!!
