Looks like Birth of a Nation may end up being a Bust...

Good question. If it's good, fuck da numbers. Numbers don't determine if da shit is good or not.
The idea that this movie was going to do box office numbers is really interesting. There has never been a black, history driven movie that did well at the box office.

I remember going to cheltenham mall to see rosewood. I remember less than 10 people in the room.

Peace,

Just saw it with some friends. The theater was literally empty except for us and five other people. This is on us.

I was at the United artists in manyunk. I felt myself saying things to the screen. I have never felt confined in my life, but I felt confined watching that movie. That movie was fucking porn for white people. I felt disgusted watching that movie.

I fucking hate that movie.

the white folks in theater i was in crying like somebody whipped them. it was bizzare.

Media or not, certain muthafuckas wasn't gonna go see it anyways. They didn't need help of other to to decide as much.

You can't go see a movie that you don't know is out. It's an advertising/marketing driven business and they decreased the promotion significantly because of the controversy. That's not even up for debate.

Right. That's why I'm not understanding why niggas are acting surprised. Movie execs don't give a fuck about nothin' anybody in this thread wants. Numbers don't determine quality. Regardless of it did numbers or not, that wouldn't have been a precursor to more of these films being made and folks know it. If anything this thread comes off as wanting acceptance from those who don't and never have given a fuck about issues that affect da black community ie: peckerwoods and house niggas. Furthermore, Da Nate Parker's, T. Perry's and those of their ilk got enough money and collective power to make their own movies and get them distributed on their own accord but don't and in turn wait on these white folks to do so. So it's absurd to think that they can't just as it's absurd for dudes to think that more of these movies are gonna get made. "Well, guess we'll only get TP type movies now, blah, blah, blah.." That's all you were ever gonna get anyways. This shit ain't nu'n new so all this faux surprise is preposterous.

It was a small theater movie. Not one of your big theater IMAX movies.

I think they were hoping word of mouth

Django made over $400 mil worldwide. But I look at it like this, that was a white savior movie wrapped around us being a superhero. Tarantino throwing us a bone while exploiting us. White people don't have a problem seeing a fictional movie.

But this cuts too close to home for this to be a big movie. It needs white people to do numbers, and after what's been going on in our society the past three years it wasn't going to happen.

I only hope WE support it, and the people who need to see it. We're the ones it needs to touch.

this was not meant to be django

wait a minute....im confused...

how is a movie that cost $10M to make....sold for $17.5M...and makes $7M in its opening weekend a bust?

this a movie about a 48hr slave revolt....being shown in a country that has Donald trump seriously in contention for being its next President....and cats are surprised its not doing star wars numbers?

Agree with all of that. At the same time, WE needed to have supported this film and we didn't.

I see you're having difficulty with the context in which this is being discussed tho... Your meme is appropriate...
Think on it a little bit and let me know if you've caught up yet... Ok?

i understand perfectly....nate parker has already won....

its the people who find a way to see the negative in anything having the problem

not I

Actually... based on your response, you really don't. You're looking at things all in your feelings, which is limiting your critical thinking ability in terms of the context of this discussion...

All good though, most people would...

That dude is a fucking jive turkey.

Jive Turkey?!?!? Thats funny...

I guess its my fault that obviously you and shorty dumbass have such a limited dimension to your pathetic thought processes. That's normally the case with people who have no concept of what critical thinking is, or are out of their depth, they normally resolved to attacking the source of their frustration. I actually have a soft spot in my heart and feel sorry for people with such a limited mental capacities. It's really sad actually.

Peace,

That's one way to look at it. Whole Foods does more business than trader joe, but most people know trader joe is superior.

What are we talking about here? Groceries?

My point is that we, as a collective, seem to be perfectly willing to support films that don't represent us positively or intelligently, but seem to be reluctant to support something like this. It's shameful.

Peace,

Comic book films do better business than documentaries.

Thats actually one of my major points Bruh. A movie, regardless of topic is NOT considered anything successful if it breaks even or even doubles it's production costs. Adding to that, the fact that, one of the BIGGEST issues Hollywood has had with financing OUR movies, is, they don't make money (according to them, which is still the LAW, essentially because THEY control the purse strings to a point). So when you have a movie of this magnitude, with the amount of press his movie has received, to perform this way on it's first weekend, it really is going to be viewed as a bust, as a 'We Told You So' type of situation, primarily because WE aren't supporting our movie....

Not saying you, but others here, SOMETIMES we've got to get out of our feelings and engage our brains.... Unfortunately we are held to a different standard, and unless WE do better, WE will always be thought of as lesser than others, when it comes to movies being successful and be able to take away THEIR excuses from excluding us... Box Office like the one for the first weekend run of this movie won't get it.

I see a whole buncha "we" shit being thrown around in a broad generalized way.

Still struggling I see.. May have to put you on ignore for a bit. I am really having a hard time dealing with you constantly embarrassing yourself with your obviously limited mental capacities... Jeezus... :smh:
