Looks like Birth of a Nation may end up being a Bust...

Some of you seem slow

The movie even though it was self financed was put out by a major studio

Why do we get a million comic book movies? Because they make money
Why do we get a bunch of movies with the dude with the dress? Because they make money

That's why it's important for this movie to do well. So there will be more.

For those of you complaining about the number of theaters, that's why. Theaters are also about making money. That's why you have marvel movies in 4,000 theaters, because people go see them. Smaller movies aren't going to get the same booking. Just like your local rock band wouldn't get booked in the same stadium as the Rolling Stones.

Muthafuckas have no critical thinking skills at all and only think from a short narrow minded perspective.

People invest in things they think will make money. If this movie doesn't do well do you think Nate will get another chance? Remember he is a black male, much less the negativity that has surrounded him.

So yes if you think short sighted and think he made more than the movie cost...it wasn't a bust.
you just proved you are not in the entertainment industry and don't know what a bust is. The title says bust, which it is not.
Studios don't buy these types of films for profit, they buy them for recongition and awards. They put out 4-5 movies every year to make major profit and have other titles to fulfill niche audiences and gather awards. They will not buy films like these if they do not get awards and recognition, not profit.
My goodness, some of you need to keep it to yourself when you have no idea what you are talking about.

Kind of shocked by the numbers but 4 states were hit hard by the hurricane so that definitely kept people away from the theatre
I was happy to see so many people at my local theatre at 11 a.m on Saturday i would say about 70 people including myself and my son my review:

Nate Parkers The Birth of a Nation is a stunning.mesmerizing ,moving and at times painful film.
The story of Nat Turner has always stuck with me through various books and artists depictions of a man who could no longer
turn his back on or subject himself to the degradation and brutality of slavery.
This is displayed so well in the film in an incredible portrayal by Nate Parker as Nat Turner. So much raw emotion leaps off of him
especially in a scene in which he witnesses extreme brutality and moments later has to preach to slaves to placate them

I enjoyed the performances by Aunjanue L. Ellis as Nat's mother as Nancy Turner and Esther Scott as Bridget Turner Nat's
grandmother. The love and concern they have for Nat shines through in their strong performances
High praise also to Colman Domingo as Hark Turner and Aja Naomi King as Nat's wife Cherry.
Other performances that hit the right notes are given by Armie Hammer and Penelope Ann Miller who portray semi sympathetic
and shaken slave and plantation owners.

The brutality in the film is unnerving and disturbing, definitely not for the faint of heart
I think the film definitely reflects the injustices of today How much and how long can one turn a deaf ear to injustice, abuse of power and degradation?

I know some people will stay away from the film because of the 1999 rape allegations against Parker of which he was acquitted in 2001,
but this film is bigger than just him
Some will say Im tired of watching films about slavery, slavery ended over 150 years ago get over it !
To all the aforementioned i say this Has anyone ever said get over 9-11 or the Holocaust?

The horrors and degradation of slavery has been brought forth in several films and TV shows yes some have grown weary of it but i believe it is important to remember it.
I love to read and i still read a couple of newspapers and i like to be well informed by print magazines, and yes schools have become more
progressive in African American studies in literature that is provided to students and also homework assignments in fact my son and his
fellow student were encouraged to see The Birth of a Nation, but i think seeing a film is still one of the most effective and moving experiences
a person can have.I think a movie can stir the soul and imprint a lasting vision in the minds eye that cant be forgotten or wither
away or age like a periodical or book.
I believe The Birth of A Nation has those soul stirring and lasting impressions and it's one of the best films of 2016

So the other movies aren't them trying to make a profit. For charity, right :hmm:

So Spike, what award is it going to get?

I saw it last night with a chick, great movie. It was a nice crowd for a Sunday night showing. People clapped at the end. I wonder how accurate these numbers are because Nate said the film is in over 2000 theaters and it has a lot of buzz.

you're an idiot. Reread what I said.

Ironic coming from the guy who can't even comprehend obvious sarcasm mocking you.

Yep, they outbid everyone else and paid 17.5 to fill a niche and win awards...and didn't care about making money. And they even put it out in December, February....wait

You have anymore wisdom for us Mr Singleton?

When is your next movie coming out, I'd like to support it :hmm:
