So you want her to basically beg white folks? Cause that’s really what your doing by point the fingers to the crackers in charge. Ask them for a chance.
What she’s saying is how about we create own on opportunity instead asking cacs or pointing the fingers at them.
If the two people she mentioned and a couple other black actors with the money come together and start creating black owned black written black produce films we can stop asking cacs and so amongst our own. Oh and not STAR in the dam movie. Just be the support.
Like shorty said this has been said on this very site but y’all wanna be mad at the messenger and use cac like tactics “ how come she didn’t protect the black actress in the chi” as if they are the same.
Because her point was about lack of support from black powerbrokers. White powerbrokers fund white projects and have been doing so since time began. How is this basic point of her premise a hard one to grasp?
Her criticism wasnt limited to them. Those were mere name brand examples she used to illustrate her point.
I can only imagine that they are taking the source of the criticism into consideration.Because of her sexuality & niggas' admiration and fondness for those that she mention, whatever point she was tryna make, for as valid as it was, niggas are gonna refuse to take it into account. Mind you, I've seen some of these dudes in other threads making da same type 'o comments in threads regarding black movies.

No. I didnt make your point. You had none the moment you injected whites into the discussion. They have no place in the discourse and only serve as a distraction and deflection from the issue at hand. You made my point. They back the movies because they like the movies and feel they will make money.
It’s plenty of white movies that don’t get made. Why is that point hard to grasp?
When the criticism is fair, yes.
But she’s criticizing them for HER not being aware of them spending their money or industry influence on something that neither of them are obligated to do.
(Something which she has no proof of).
Do you see the silly hoe logic in that statement?
begging white folks is all they understand
that or trying to make white folks do what they dont wanna do
their minds cant comprehend us creating our own opportunities
anyone shining a light on how we can do it without white people gets called a coon
That is not always true. And many production companies owned by stars work under a DBA for various legal and tax advantage reasons, as well as to avoid conflict of interestProof is in the credits
lol
How about she just do it without mentioning other people. Make the movement and give props to those that helped you. No need to mention the ones that didn't.
Probably the first option. Issue some sort of apology and she'll try and clarify her comments because she knows deep down that these kats got clout.
And that is something you shouldn't try and fuck up in the small world of Black Hollywood.
“But ultimately, I’m saying for anybody who has money [and is] black, I think should be held to finance at least one or two black filmmakers trying to make their first film. I just think it’s important because then what will happen is we’re keeping the well within our community.”
I aint heard anything yet
Wow...
So basically you can say anything and just wait it out.

What you think of this explanation...
“Look, Will, Denzel, I have a relationship with both camps, no shade no tea, I was just texting with Jada—everybody’s fine,” Waithe confirmed at the panel after Hill noted that the “spin” on the interview was about her calling out the iconic actors. “But ultimately, I’m saying for anybody who has money [and is] black, I think should be held to finance at least one or two black filmmakers trying to make their first film. Balance? What thread are you reading? The entire flock is in attack mode in defense of their god Denzel. This woman is being slandered and ridiculed to death. No need to add a Denzel fluff piece for "balance" my man.I think there's space for criticism and Lena's work in getting The Chi made earns her some credit here to speak her mind. Just for balance here's something else to consider

Honest question, no clowning: But black indies, or HER black indies? Sometimes when you're on the front porch talking to the subject that knocked on the front door, the agendas are trying to sneak in through the back door.Shes talking about funding black indies
Good question. And i wouldnt be the least bit surprised if it comes out they turned her down in some professional fashion in the past. But, even if her criticism is colored by some self interest, it doesnt negate the validity in the claim or void in the space of funding black indies.Honest question, no clowning: But black indies, or HER black indies? Any reference to the whites by me was in response to someone who quoted me and mentioned them first. Feel free to go back and verify this. You brought up white people in your point by saying they promote white movies. My point was they support movies that make money.
I disagree. Especially when we are in a society that targets and oppresses us solely on the basis of race. I am in full support of supporting black creativity on the same basis... And again, what do your examples have to do with her direct point on black power brokers funding indies!!!? Stop with the strawman bullshit. My point for your black perspective is black people should not support black entertainment just because black people made it. If the shit is trash the shit is trash. Plenty of black dollars have gone to black films, black music, black theater that didn’t make shit but that was their choice.
For you to say this is what she said is bullshit. Feel free to address what she actually said or just dont address it at all brother. Thanks. For her to say black people don’t support black movies is bullshit.

Excellent fucking point. Nate Parker said the same shit about HIS indie pic and how none of the big names would assist in financing. Nigga said he got his bigger contributions from athletes (Tony Parker was a big one). Nobody came in flailing and attacking Nate for the audacity of criticizing their heroes tho. These niggas are clowns man. Like i said, none of these muthafuckin hollywood cats are beyond questioning.
So why are we treating Will and Denzel different from all white filmmakers?
If you pitch a movie and people don't like it are they just supposed to give you money for it because you are black?
Movies get turned down and passed on all the time. I'm sure every movie that Will Smith and Denzel want to make doesn't get made.
A "production" company is in the business of making money. What a black production company can do to further the black community is give black people a shot at getting meetings and getting their shit heard. That's it. After that if you don't have an idea that is in line with what that company wants to do they are not obligated to give you money and put out your shit because you are black.
So her "critique" is bullshit. They don't like your shit. Just like she doesn't like these black movies that she says white critics love.
Deal with it?![]()
