LeBron: Scoring title always mine -- if I want it

Bron can score, that's never been an issue so the statement on the surface makes sense. Giving up points and accolades to win titles is something all great players learn to do, maybe it's all starting to click for him now.

What have Kobe done to prove he is the best player this year or last? Sure he won a championship, however he also played on a better team, thats like me and my boys beating Usain Bolt and a bunch of midgets in a relay race, does that make me faster than Bolt?
Or does that say how sucky his teammates must be?

That's what it's all about right there. Imo, Kobe is a winner. I will put my money on him above anyone else in the league right now when the game is on the line. He will kill you anywhere on the floor. I can't say that about Lebron. He simply isn't as clutch as Kobe.

I'd like to see an LA / Clev series this year to see how it would turn out. After the moves Cleveland has made there wouldn't be any more excuses as to why they haven't won a championship.

Listen Kobe never won the championship, his team did, now if they were to make a thread stating that the Cavs have been better than the Lakers I would roll with you, but for you to assume that Kobe is king of the NBA because he won the championship you are wrong, just as wrong as the Celtic fans who said that KG or Pierce was better than Kobe because they beat the Lakers.
Funny yall saw the logic back then but as soon as yall win yall all catch selective amnesia real fast. Yall forgot how I argued that Kobe was the best player that year, in-spite of them losing to Boston.

I agree with you to a certain extent. That said, a championship looks good on your resume. I only highlighted that because you made it seem like nothing. Had it been an accomplishment on Lebron's resume, I guess it would've held more weight?

It's just a matter of opinion, fam. I simply think Kobe is the best in the league. Have thought it for awhile. I'm not knocking you for having a differing opinion.

The rules are different for Lebron.

I noticed that after Kobe won his first without Shaq, championships were no longer the true mark of greatness. "Everyone" on BGOL started saying that Robert Horry has seven, as if a bench-warmers rings are in any way comparable to a major contributor to a teams offense.

The extent of every elite players greatness has been determined by their number of rings. Lebron will be no exception. I'm sure, the moment 'Bron starts to win rings, it'll be a valid means of determining a star degree of greatness. If Lebron doesn't win more than two, no one is going to tell me that his career wasn't something of a disappointment. Calling someone a team player, and they don't have rings is pointless. Apparently, the way you played the game, while impressive, was not enough.

I expect for Lebron to win rings - because he truly seems to desire them - but the bar can't be lowered for him.

Sounds reasonable to me.

How does one become King without a single crown to one's name? :hmm:

What I meant is that he's building his rep and living up to the hype he acquired in high school. He is getting better/stronger and the sky's the limit. He isn't "King" yet ... but hopefully he'll cement that by 2020 or sooner and get him and his squad a championship or two. As my dad says ... "just looking at him ... MINUS THE HEIGHT ... you'd think he was a football player given his size/speed ... he moves like a cat ... very quick/agile and strong ..."

How do you determine whose better?

Statistics will always be dependent on what the team needs, and what said player is capable of. Kobe chooses not to channel his energies where Lebron does. Throughout Kobe's career, he's been asked to grab more boards, dish more than usual, and score more than usual, for periods of time. Each time, his out-put was significantly higher than it usually would be had he not been asked to do it.

Kobe's statistical output has more to with his team's needs, than it does ability. I'm not saying Kobe could average 40ppg, 15rb, and 12 assist - but even if he could, what would be the cost?

Do you know how tiring that is? Do you know what a "do-everything" player does to a teams confidence? We praise Lebron for his individual brilliance, but no one questions if his all-around brilliance causes other players to back out of his way, instead of being aggressive and playing with full confidence. He wants to fuck up King James' sweet no-looker? On one hand, you SHOULD want to score on every pass - but it's a tad bit more pressure to score when Lebron passes you the ball.

You can be a selfish rebound and a selfish assist man too - but people limit it to scoring. Lebron is a stat guy, because that's what he wants to be. You don't unconsciously get his numbers. That's the way he prefers to play the game, but it doesn't mean Kobe Bryant is less capable of doing just that.

Why pay these other guys if Kobe is going to be asked to grab all the rebounds and dish all the assist. Basketball is a team game. You determine the best by what all they can do on the court- not by what they are asked to do, or prefer to do.

The year Kobe averaged 35.4, people talked about his career low in assists, but neglected to mention that Phil asked him to score more to keep them competitive, not dish more. Lebron said HE could score more, and that's not different than Kobe in other statistical categories, if he were asked to do it.

Lebron isn't the only player sacrificing their game for the sake of the team.

I can see that. lol @ Some of these cats in here who seriously feel like being 'the people's champ' is on the same level of literally being the champ.

I have to admit that I knew it was going to turn into this debate before I actually posted the damn article....

Basketball, in the END, is about WINNING . . . Games, then the big game, THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

If both Kobe AND Lebron voiced that they've elected to pursue RINGS over scoring titles, we know, and they AFFIRM, what it all comes down to.

I like ALMOST everything about Lebron's abilities . . . Shit if he were more clutch, he'd be . . . Kobe.

But in the NBA THE ONLY KINGS ARE THE ONES WEARING RINGS.

Man I hate when folks give heads props on credit. The crown is to be taken, not given. Can't tell you how that irritates me.

So far Kobe is the greatest since Mike. Convenient amnesia . . . Quite.

Come on, eewwll - it's shit like this that would make BGOL the place to be if the Cavs and Lakers both made it to this years Finals.

...well, other than the Staples Center, and Quicken Loans Arena.

who?

i just find it funny it's the same niggas saying the same shit, regardless of the topic. what james actually said should be respected by any lover of basketball, because he basically said, it's all about team first, and he doesn't worry about individual awards for himself. how this fuck this turned into a discussion on how he hasn't done shit, or earned a got-damn "nickname" is beyond me.
lol @ who

i feel you but it's all about perspective. i could see without much strain how this comment could be perceived as arrogant. his beastliness is un?able though. but u know the saying, they're like assholes...

Lebron isn't the only player sacrificing their game for the sake of the team.

You know what puts a wrinkle to your theory, I'vs seen LeBron have like 50 points 12 rebounds and 8 assist and not push to get the last two, have 40 points at half and not take a shot in the third quarter or have 45 points and pull himself out the fourth during a 15 point game.
He has played every position except center, meaning dude is willing to do anything to win. Kobe is a scorer number one two and three. He takes way more shots than LeBron yet has a lower shooting % and scores less. So that means if they shot the same amount LeBron would score more than Kobe (don't blame me, blame stupid math).
Now to determine who is the best individual player, well there are three main barometer we can use (sure they are not perfect, but its better than anything else I can think of and certainly better than yours or mine onions).
First MVP's how many do they each have, next viable stats, scoring, shooting %, rebounds, assist, steal, blocks. If you take all that into consideration, LeBron crushes Kobe for the last three season.
And based on that criterion, not just my opinion, James is the best player over the last three years.
Just curios, what do your Kobe supporters base your opinion that he is the best player, right now on? Is it stats? If so what stat? If it is only on NBA titles, then Robert Horry is better than Kobe. what is it?

Lebron's dominance is on the level of a shaq and Duncan. And maybe eventually Michael Jordan, in the way one player can so greatly influence the game. So he should have no Les than three titles. One - he's got over the hump. Two- he's a great player, three - he's bonafide.

I can see that. lol @ Some of these cats in here who seriously feel like being 'the people's champ' is on the same level of literally being the champ.

No but nobody in their right mind will tell you that Kobe would have won championships with the talent that LeBron had to play with, and that LeBron wouldn't have won with the talent Kobe played with.
If anything the Lakers with James would have beaten the Celtics, I say this because he almost beat them that year all by himself.

In June the database errors are going to be crazy. Somewhere around page 3,852 of the OFFICIAL CAVS VS LAKERS SERIES THREAD the  "So what, he only has one ring now, that don't mean shit" comments will start.

Plus how badly the Lakers looked when Kobe didn't have the premier talent around him.

Yes. He stayed with the Laker's when their roster sucked. Of course he put fire under Buss's ass with trade talk, but everyone knew he wanted to retire a Laker. Still does.
Kobe had the chance to prove how far he can take a shitty team, and failed miserably.
LeBron on the contrary never had a primer team, other than this year that could support him, so everything he did up to now has been with a shitty team. And to his credit he took them to the finals and made the Cavs on of the most respectable team in the league.

Yeah - what I respect most about Lebron is that he has lived up to all the hype, and then some. Too often we hear of high school athletes touted as "the next big thing", but they just end up good/pretty good. This cat's on another level ... at what ... age 24 or so? He still has so many years to grow. Same with how Kobe came in ... and has basically done the same over the years (amidst stronger squads overall) ... and not been a dissapointment either.

Really enjoyed watching that MORE THAN A GAME doc' on Lebron's HS squad ...
