  • Kobe Bryant had his own personal camera crew following the Los Angeles Lakers' every move during the 2015-16 season
  • Season was Bryant's last in the NBA and the crew had 'unprecedented access' even beyond what the Lakers' television partners were granted.
  • Bryant also won Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2017 for Dear Basketball
  • Documentary could be similar to ESPN's 10-part documentary on Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, Last Dance
  • Bryant had already reviewed the edited work in progress and gave his input before his death in a helicopter crash on January 26

Am I the only one who is still shocked when the go on the main page and see “KOBE BRYANT DEAD” then I go oh wait he’s been dead, then carry on as usual? Is it just me?

No. Definitely not just you. Still impossible to comprehend for me too. Whole country being on lockdown has kind of overshadowed it at the moment, but still unbelievable.

Man, this shit got me tearing up again. This is so surreal man; just like. I'm crying all over again. Dude was my age, yo. 1 year younger.

With every video and picture I'm fighting back tears then I just said fuck it. Kobe had that it drive. I wish I had it consistently

Agreed. I remember that day and seeing the breaking news on TSN. Had it on in the background and was left in stunned silence and followed the news coverage (and BGOL) for the remainder of the day. My dad was driving out to the valley (about 40 mins away) with his gf to attend a friend's funeral that day. My dad was a big fan of Kobe's and really respected his impact on the game. His drive, like you said. My dad doesn't have a cellphone, so I wondered if he'd hear about the news prior to returning home that day, or on the radio. I knew he would call me later that afternoon upon his return home. Apparently his gf's daughter (mid-30s) texted her in the car and said - "Did you hear the news about Kobe Bryant and others?" - it was news to dad's gf too. She asked dad in the car, and he noted to me later when she posed that question he had a very uneasy feeling as he knew the news couldn't be good. We talked on the phone later (he called me upon return, as I suspected he would) and we were in disbelief thinking about the assortment of crash victims aboard, his daughter included. Definitely hit home too - Kobe was a year older than me.

If I found out the pilot had COVID-19 and died instantly in mid flight it because of altitude it would all make sense now
