Look guys, I'm a dude that admires Killer Mike's rappin ass, I think he's a very smart guy and imo an INCREDIBLE rapper, like... a generational talent tbh. I count my lucky stars that he and El-P linked up, they have made some incredible art together. And if you're a person that can't get with RTJ for some wild reason, just listen to
Killer Mike's "Ronald Reagan" track produced by El-P (better yet, watch the video). It's art, it's history and there's a thoughtful critique he offers!
At the same time, this brother's political commentary has been dissapointing af lately. I'm not going to pretend he's dumb. But I will say his commentary indicates a profound lack of interest in following ideas to their logical conclusions. His ideas are PROFOUNDLY incomplete and unserious.
He's talking about, HUNTING, FISHING, LIVING OFF THE LAND. "SELF SUFFICIENTLY" *HANDLING BUSINESS!!"*. Sure bruh, these are all undeniably great skills to acquire, go ahead and get your eagle on my niggas lol. But there's a white supremacist subtext here. The reason for our current, collective predicament in America is meant to be understood in terms of lack of skill and will. That's a common WS trope and one that obfuscates the systemic machinery that has been levied against us very systemically across decades and centuries.
I've said this before elsewhere here but it bears repeating. I'm no enemy of personal excellence. "Be All You Can Be!", but please gtfoh if your critique is just "we" are not trying hard enough "collectively". It's a lazy pov
that reinforces a white supremacist framework for no reason at all and fails to interrogate American History seriously. Just do better and ask more of yourself.
