Kevin Hart Called Out For Calling The Poor "Not Smart Enough" To Open Bank Accounts

There's a lot of people even today are old school with always wanting to carry cash and don't want to deal with putting money in the bank going to the ATM to withdrawal. I mean even niggas on BGOL don't want want to deal with that bank account shit. Some people change their ways and realize they need a back account to be more organized without having to carry all that cash around since it'll be on your card and people still want to get a check and don't like direct deposit because they don't want a bank account.

and basketball players should just shut up and dribble..right?

are you white??
A lot of these players and rappers, entertainers talk about shit they aren't educated enough to discuss. Also, they forget where they came from acting like they weren't in those shoes before the fame.

Nothing he said was new nor controversial.

Lolz Motherfuckers spending so much time debating his "not smart enough" comment while ignoring the fact that what he said was fucking true, regarding check cashing places, liquor stores and the lack of access to banks and credit unions.
spot on

this shit is exhausting.. niggas too busy letting the internet tell them what to be outraged about

half of BGOL is on some kinda of group think shit... outraged because every one else is outraged....smh

there is a lack of education in the hood as it pertains to financial responsibility.. hence "not smart enough"

so they not "smart enough"?

He has a deal with Chase bank... I'm sure he talks to them about outreach programs, providing no-fee checking/savings accounts to inner city residents, sponsoring financial literacy seminars, and so on...

:hmm:

All I'm going to say is that Kevin Hart reminds me of a lot of y'all on this message board. A bunch of y'all in here are quick to believe the most negative things said about your own people and a lot of you all have internalized a lot of that shit that comes from White supremacy.

Kevin Hart will get on here and say how Black people are not smart enough to open a bank account but won't stop and think to himself why there is so few banks in Black neighborhoods. But yeah it's all Black people's fault.

Definitely not white. Did you hear what he said? He said the people in the hood are not smart enough to open bank accounts. The people he’s talking about are black people. He’s essentially saying black people aren’t smart enough to open bank accounts. Hence why I said he should stick to comedy. He delivered the message terribly.

Poor people and bank account don't go in the same sentence.

Banks have been fucking poor people over since their inception. They make it damn near impossible to keep an account open. If you owe a bank money due to fees they charged, you can't open up a new account at other banks.

You can't blame imaginary dumb poor folks without addressing the real issues real folks face.

For a new episode of The Comedy Hype News Show, Denielle Miller fills in for Symphony Thompson to react to Kevin Hart's take on how poor people fall victim to liquor stores and check cashing businesses. According to Hart the lack of using banks continue to be why people in the hood don't get out of their circumstances. Guest Marcus Harvey and financial expert The Business Bully weigh in.

tthe host

This is how much blacks who have money think about non educated black folks honestly

We just socialize around the culture but if the poor knew how folks really felt about them they'd kill everyone imao

I said ages ago, we like people using us, I went back to school at a older age because I understood how things work.

I don't even like watching tv or sports, I feel used to be honest.

If you don't have reliable transportation or if your family doesn't have a history of bank accounts.....

You're gonna walk "down the street" to the corner store vs having to call a Uber, get a ride, catch a bus to the bank to set an account up.

There are online bank accounts now but most folks either don't know about them or they already distrust banks so they definitely don't trust an "online" only one.

There may be some ignorance in not getting a bank account, but there is also the perceived convenience of a liquor store added to some latent distrust of banks in general.
Eh. Same people who sit around with a small computer in their hands all day on FB/IG will not use that same computer to open an account online or pay their bills. They will say its "too hard". I was once making chicken scratch and riding the bus, but I had internet. Common sense told me to use that internet to handle as much business as I could to avoid paying check cashing fees and bus fare. I have friends/family who are in their 40s/50s who still go cash checks instead of using direct deposit. They still go to the utility company to pay bills. I just can't see it. My parents didn't teach me financial literacy and neither did the schools. I just did what made sense and was easier to do. I made sure to teach my younger siblings how to manage money and build credit.

Anyone upset with what Kevin said is actually proving the point. Talk about irony.

It is obvious to anyone who listened to him, that he was speaking in the voice of someone who thinks the poor are dumb and easily influenced.

Pretty sure this has been said already. Had you used a different phrase besides not smart enough does that change the rest of the point he was making? I hate the phrase; "chew the meat and spit out the bones." Why are you eating food that you have to spit bones out?! That's just not a good meal. But comedians are known for speaking off the cuff, unless it is a bit, what they're saying is not gonna be polished, so I can give Kevin some grace.
