For a new episode of The Comedy Hype News Show, Denielle Miller fills in for Symphony Thompson to react to Kevin Hart's take on how poor people fall victim to liquor stores and check cashing businesses. According to Hart the lack of using banks continue to be why people in the hood don't get out of their circumstances. Guest Marcus Harvey and financial expert The Business Bully weigh in.

It's true I know someone who's in his 60's with no bank account or license cause of back child support for his 40+yr child, nigga getting social security and still going to a check cashing place every month.

I know a grown ass woman who got a 20k check and went from check cashing place to corner stores trying to get it cashed until she was finally told that she needed to cash it at a bank but she had to open an account and wait a week before withdrawing any funds....you know she cursed the people out at the first bank she went to and accused them of trying to steal her money.

This isn't everyone but these ignorant ass people still do exist and the arabs, liqour stores, hair & nails places thrive off of their ignorance while I go out of my way NOT GIVE THEM ONE DIME AT ALL.

Kevin mis-spoke and it's not that serious to be all upset.....

He should have not used that particular phrase, but I see what he’s talking about. There is a ton of money comes through the hood sometimes but it’s being used for the wrong things. They tried to teach financial literacy in public schools but in red states, you know what they did to that subject.

Bank Accounts back in the day were easy to overdraw, now it is virtually impossible. It is really the banks that created these unbanked class of people.

The CFPB really cleaned this mess up with predatory financial institution preying on the poor with overdraft fees.

Kevin Hart is the last person that should be talking because it was a time he was poor and didn't know how to do that either. Hell back then when I wasn't where I'm at today, I knew exactly how to open a bank account because my mother taught me early when I was older enough and taught some of my friends as well since he needed a bank account for the job he was working that only did direct deposit at the time.

Nothing he said was new nor controversial.

Lolz Motherfuckers spending so much time debating his "not smart enough" comment while ignoring the fact that what he said was fucking true, regarding check cashing places, liquor stores and the lack of access to banks and credit unions.

I feel you. I honestly don't know nor am familiar with the host, and yes, perhaps Hart shouldn't have said what he said the way he said it in that company, however would folks have reacted differently had he said this in one of his specials?

As far as your second point, two things can exist at the same time.

Yes, systemic racism exists and has limited access to banks within some communities, and yet, there are people in those communities that have every opportunity to recognize this but don't due to poor choices.

Get da fuck outta here. Muthafuckas act like they don't know a Pookie, Man Man, Do-Dirt or E-Shine who don't have his shit together and who's life is a fuckin train wreck in the hood. Sensitive fucks. If it don't apply to you keep it pushin'. Dat shit applies to somebody though.

i hear u

my thing is what overrules the other?
systematic racism comes first so focus on that
specially if you are speaking against cacs and a billionair host that reallly thinks u dumb
what do u think they are now going to get from his lil speech

cacs: we told u so there is no problem they are just dumb like we thought
i wont be surprised if coondance owens clip his first argument haha

We can spend time focusing on systemic racism, but this society we live in was built on it.

We live in a racist system and some people in our communities fall victim to it, while others in that very same community just don't. Easier to educate people to navigate it better and not fall into the traps systemic racism has put in the way, than it is to tear the whole thing down. I honestly think it's easier to educate motherfuckers into making better choices, especially in today's day and age where information is at our fingertips.

Kev said this in a room full of white people?
I knew exactly what Kevin was talking about but he should have chose better words. You understand his point more clearly if you live deep in the hood and I lived deep in the hood.

Everybody I know in the hood has a bank account. Yes you have some with odd jobs and no bank account but the payday loans and check cashing shit is there because they know people are poor and need the money asap and can’t wait for payday. Unless they alcoholics ain’t nobody going to spend all their money on alcohol. Weird ass statement

He says he didn't know any better earlier in life and learned later in the interview or whatever this was.

He could have said it better. Any term that is associated with not having intelligence is going to cause an uproar. He basically called people ignorant or that is all he meant. Being ignorant isn't the same as being dumb.

This the same guy who owns a tequila brand… don’t those liq stores sell his alcohol.. is he keeping the poor down or benefiting off this poor man system

Make sense but he should've made his point clear not to have people thinking he was shitting on them.

$50+… for “clear” reposado
I read up on “clear” reposado… it’s actually shit tequila… I forget the exact terms.. but it’s not really quality tequila, companies just repackage it and try to push the narrative that it’s unique.. but real tequila connoisseurs look at it as shit tequila

It's actually hypocrisy.

People shit on Kevin unprovoked because they feel he's an easy target.

Those same people are upset because they are probably to ignorant to open a bank account.

Nothing he said was wrong, this is a case of people not liking g the messenger so they ignore the message.

In VA when I got back here in the 90s people were either cashing checks at a furniture store or a check cashing spot. In The D it was the party stores, I got my first bank account (parents cosigned) as part of a field trip/class project for school. Something that is rarely taught in class now.

If you don't have reliable transportation or if your family doesn't have a history of bank accounts.....

You're gonna walk "down the street" to the corner store vs having to call a Uber, get a ride, catch a bus to the bank to set an account up.

There are online bank accounts now but most folks either don't know about them or they already distrust banks so they definitely don't trust an "online" only one.

There may be some ignorance in not getting a bank account, but there is also the perceived convenience of a liquor store added to some latent distrust of banks in general.

A lot of these celebrities got these liquors marketing for them CAcS when it's not their own liquor brand. I'll never fall for that shit.
