You could say Kelly Clarkson is “Thankful” for the latest development in her divorce from her former manager Brandon Blackstock. TMZ reported the couple’s prenup has been upheld in their split, a victory Clarkson had been fighting for and one she celebrated when she heard about it on the set of The Voice. The pop star “let out a scream, which then gave way to a celebration,” by TMZ’s description, after she got the news in an email on August 11. As she should have! Her fellow coaches Ariana Grande and Blake Shelton also reportedly joined the festivities. The news hit close to Shelton, who had recently fired Blackstock as his own manager, as Radar also reported, after being his final remaining client.
As for the prenup itself? According to TMZ, it will allow Clarkson to claim all the assets she purchased and paid for during the marriage, to the disappointment of Blackstock, who had been arguing for a more even split. (Per recent reports, Blackstock makes around $10,000 a month, compared with Clarkson’s $1.5 million.) In particular, Blackstock wanted to claim the couple’s Montana ranch to build his new ranching career after leaving talent management behind (amid allegations of fraud by Clarkson herself), but Clarkson wanted to sell it; the prenup will reportedly now give Clarkson the property. She has celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who is representing her, to thank for the judgment after Wasser reportedly made a strong argument for holding Blackstock to the contract he had signed.

This judgment brings Clarkson closer to finalizing her divorce, but in the meantime, TMZ also reports that her marriage to Blackstock will likely be dissolved any day now — after she had requested that the dissolution be separated from any agreements over custody and property. As she works to make the split official, Clarkson is requesting that the judge legally restore her last name, per The Blast. Us? We’ll just keep calling her Miss Independent.

Kelly Clarkson's prenup has been validated by the judge in her divorce case, she found out the good news while she was on the set of "The Voice" and let out a scream, which then gave way to a celebration ... TMZ has learned.
Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ...Kelly was filming the singing competition Wednesday when she got an email saying the hotly-contested prenup was upheld in full by the judge. We're told the prenup segregates all assets and income derived during her marriage to Brandon Blackstock.
Kelly accumulated the lion's share of assets, including the Montana ranch where Brandon is currently living. He was contesting the prenup and wanted their properties split, along with income she earned during their marriage, but the judge shut him down.

We're told the celebration on the set of "The Voice" got personal. Our sources say Blake Shelton had recently terminated his relationship with Blackstock, who managed him for years.
The other judges who were there, including Ariana Grande, participated in the celebration.
Clarkson's lawyer, Laura Wasser, had argued during the trial on the prenup, that there had to be accountability when someone signs a contract -- in this case, a prenup. The judge clearly agreed.
The divorce has been "bifurcated" -- meaning the actual declaration that the marriage is over has been separated from the property settlement and custody issues. The actual dissolution of the marriage should be finalized within days. Kelly has been awarded primary custody on a temporary basis, because Brandon moved to Montana. It seems by validating the prenup, most issues have now been resolved.

As for the ranch, because the prenup was validated, Kelly -- who purchased it -- now has the right to sell it.
We reached out to Wasser for comment ... so far, no word back.

Blackstock had been fighting the prenup demanding it be thrown out in the divorce. Since the court found the deal valid, the terms will not be enforced in the split. The agreement covers everything from child support to how they split up the homes they shared.

As Radar previously reported, recently as part of his demand for a massive monthly support check, Blackstock claimed he had left the entertainment business and was working as a rancher at his home in Montana.
The court order said, Blackstock "made a very deliberate choice to change his life and become a rancher full-time. Respondent testified that he works full-time on the ranch and his future plans involve sponsoring rodeos on the ranch and working full-time as a rancher. He testified that he is not devoting any effort towards expanding his client list and music management business."

Blackstock said his monthly income was around $10,333 while Clarkson pulled in $1.5 million per month. As a result, the court ordered Clarkson to pay her ex $150,000 a month in spousal support and another $50,000 in child support for their 2 kids.

Clarkson was also ordered to pay up $1 million towards Blackstock's legal fees and another $250,000 for him to hire a forensic accountant to comb through the singer's finances.

Kelly Clarkson Claims Her Ex Defrauded Her for Over a Decade

Kelly Clarkson’s quest to become “Miss Independent” once again is heating up. As she works to divorce husband Brandon Blackstock, who was also her manager starting in 2007, Clarkson has filed a fraud claim against Blackstock’s management company with the California Labor Commissioner’s Office. According to documents obtained by OK! magazine, Clarkson made the filing in October, in which she called her oral agreement with Starstruck Management Group a “fraudulent and subterfuge device” and accused Blackstock and his father, Narvel Blackstock, of being unlicensed talent agents in California. (Narvel was formerly married to Reba McEntire, whom he also managed for a period.) Clarkson’s filing not only attempts to void her agreement with Starstruck and the Blackstocks, but it also seeks the money she paid for their services from 2007–20, arguing that Clarkson paid “unconscionable fees” for “illegal services.”
The petition, set to be ruled on in February, could also dismiss a separate lawsuit that Starstruck filed against Clarkson in September. According to People, that suit claimed Clarkson already owes an additional $1.4 million in commissions from The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice along with millions of dollars from future payments. “Starstruck developed Clarkson into a mega superstar,” that filing claimed. Clarkson’s filing, meanwhile, argues she should not have to make those payments either. And by those numbers alone, Clarkson could see up to tens of millions of dollars back in her pocket come February, given her touring and TV success over the past 13

Kelly Clarkson on Her Divorce: ‘Definitely Didn’t See Anything Coming’
By Justin Curto@justinmcurto
“Let’s get this out of the way: 2020 has been a dumpster fire.” Photo: YouTube
You might think 2020 has been bad, but at least the pandemic hasn’t kept you from recording your wonderful cover songs live with your band. At least you don’t have to fend off an absurdly theatrical competitor in the celebrity talk-show space. And at least, hopefully, you haven’t gone through a high-profile divorce. All those things have happened to Kelly Clarkson this year, along with, you know, everything else. “Let’s get this out of the way: 2020 has been a dumpster fire,” she said on September 21 while in studio for The Kelly Clarkson Show’s first episode of season two. “Yep, just all the ‘word I can’t say on this show,’ just piled together, and it’s on fire.” Clarkson continued, “As you probably know, 2020 has also brought a lot of change to my personal life. Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.”
And in case you thought she might’ve meant the pandemic or The Drew Barrymore Show, Clarkson went on to address her June divorce from Brandon Blackstock, her husband of nearly seven years. “What I’m dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart, it involves a lot of little hearts,” she said. “You know, we have four kids, and divorce is never easy, and we’re both from divorced families. So you know, we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.” The couple shares 6-year-old River and 4-year-old Remington, along with Blackstock’s two children from a previous marriage. Clarkson continued, “I’m usually very open, and I usually talk about everything, but in this case I will talk a little bit here and there about how it affects me personally, but probably won’t go too far into it because, you know, I’m a mama bear, and my kids come first.”

In case you were worried, Clarkson assured viewers that she’s doing okay. And if you won’t take her word for it, just watch her fiery Kellyoke cover of Lizzo’s “Good As Hell” from the September 22 episode. She also said she’s been listening to and writing music in the wake of her divorce. “When I got upset when I was a kid, I had a problem saying how I felt, and my mom told me to start writing,” she said. “And that’s actually how I get my feelings out. So I probably won’t speak about it too much, but you definitely will hear it musically, probably. That’s how I became a songwriter.” And we can’t wait to hear it, from the queen of breakup bops herself.
