Personally, I don't think that the Dems should have gone all in on the Ford allegation, but Avenatti didn't help matters at all.
We already see the truth, which is that not a single Republican worth a crap cared whether it was true or not in the end. They weren't going to care about anything, but the pressure from this one issue downplayed every other objection they could have made over it.
And people keep saying that Dems need to fight dirty, but the thing is that they're really bad at it. None of them have the stomach for it, and the ones that do usually do a crap job of it. For all of that, they might as well just keep protesting and wait for things to fall apart and for people to get angry again.
At the end of the day, no one in Congress is scared of anything besides losing power, and no one's really willing to take one for the team. The only reason the GOP is making these broad strokes is because so many of their people are looking at the exit door anyway, so for once they aren't worried about the political repercussions. If I was a young Republican, instead of celebrating our "victory", I'd be way more concerned with the backlash from all of this fuckery. Then again, I have common sense and haven't been brainwashed into thinking I'm perfect in a flawed world.
I wish I had a better solution, but short of gut checking these fools in elections and/or having an honest to goodness revolution, I don't see any other avenues to take.
